Advanced Thoughts on Prayer

I would like to share some advance thoughts about prayer that may actually may encourage or help prayer to grow and develop through relationship with each other and God.

written by Lewis Turner, Wheatland Ministries December 2023

  1. What I have when groups have a focus on prayer is that such emphasis or focus does not seem to be drawing on building on the foundation of prayer which may have been in the region for many years. We need to draw on the prayer experience of…

A few years agok my wife and I were saddened to learn that the VBS director of my church did not encourage asking children to put their faith in Jesus by asking Him into their heart.  She did not believe children understood the concept of a Spiritual Heart.  She thought most thought of the heart as an organ that pumps blood.  The result was, no one was Saved during that VBS.  SAD.

On hearing this, my wife and I both…

Lifting Up

Over the last 10 years, in my study of God’s Word and Ancient Hebrew letters, in a discipline call Etymology, the Lord showed me something interesting in two of the Names of God that I studied.  One is Prince of Peace, which is Sar Shalom in Hebrew.  The other Name of God is Everlasting Father, which is El Gibbor in Hebrew.  In my study of Names of God, I use an etymological approach, looking at the meanings of Hebrew letters as found through Archeological research.  I know some do not…

A Thought to explore on Journaling and praying with others

Hudson Taylor, a missionary to China, wrote to his college roommate about everyone whom he had shared the Gospel of Christ with.  The roommate prayed over those letters.  Hudson Taylor had the greatest number of people responding to Christ in China that the other missionaries.

Though not much is said how the letters were written—did they just list the names or did they also share facts about Hudson’s contact with…

Missionary Conference--Prayer based

On March 11, 2018, my church had a Missionary Conference, which was coordinated by our church's Missions Committee. I am on that committee, and can say that everyone working made this conference possible. The whole committee worked very hard. The conference was a blessing to the whole church.

I believe that the following was extremely important to the success of this Missionary Conference:  One member of the committee was not able to…

Pastoral Search Committees

Recently, my church’s pastor resigned, putting us into the position of having to search for a new pastor to lead the church. A pulpit committee has been formed, and it is following the pattern of the Tennessee Baptist group that recommends having a Pray Chairman. Prayer is an important part of the duties of the Pulpit Search Committee, and the Prayer Chairman is responsible for keeping prayer at the forefront, and also before the Church…

Recently, my church has started searching for a pastor and has set up a Pastoral Search Committee. We are currently in the administrative part of our duties-developing candidate questions. Since our committee is quite diverse—a number of different focuses/talents/functions in the body—the questions will undoubtedly be diverse. We are working on format of the questions—I.E.—Initial interview, Written Questions to follow-ups, and a second Interview.

Being the Prayer Chairman of the…

Teaching the Spiritual Heart to Children

Praying for God to Bring Life

This morning after a time of prayer with others, and taking time to read some meditations, I came across the verse in Ezekiel 37:5 which says "Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live:".  We yearn for revival.  --a thought about that--perhaps God's revival is to bring life to us.  Take some time an consider the short prayer minute below.  If it is your prayer too, then take time to pray it in your own words.    PM#0553 John…

Opening Prayer of the 117th Congress

Dear intercessors.   This week the opening prayer of the 117th Congress was made.  It did not acknowledge the writer of part of the prayer--the Aaronic blessing which was written by Yahweh.  Instead, it attributed this prayer to foreign gods.  An item for prayer.   Our God is a Jealous God who does not like what He has written attributed to any other God.  This was written about in the Daily Jot, which I have included in the link below.  Please take time to pull it up and read it.…

Oil for our Christian Light

There is an old song ‘Give Me Oil in My Lamp, Keep Me Burning’ .  We need God's pure Oil to keep our Christian Light burning.  It is possible that many involved in intercession may feel like with all that is happening around us, that their light is almost snuffed out. During Hanukkah, the Jews remember the miracle of how the light did not go out until new Temple oil was produced.  There was only enough oil for one day, yet it burned for 8 days giving time for new oil to be available.  Perhaps…

PM#0551

May the Lord uphold us and protect us, so we can mature in Him.  Help us Lord to keep our eyes on You, and to give You praise as Jehoshaphat did in Israel when faced with an impossible battle.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.   PM#0551 Based on: II Chronicles 20 and Isaiah 9:6 –‘Prince of Peace’   Note:  A prince ‘upholds’ (taken from the study on Prince of Peace, in Day 18 in the book 31 Names of God)

Prayer for personal interests-Involve the Lord in everything in our lives

When you are in the middle of a storm in your country, a storm of politics that affects the future and could decide whether abortion is continued and other things including election corruption—any answer to prayer whether personal or national is encouraging.  Saturday, Nov 21, 2020,  I had an answer to a personal prayer.  I found a flower bulb that I dug for fall replanting this fall, but lost in storage.  FYI- I had a garden hobby of growing Daffodils and Asiatic Lilies and breeding them for…

Singing as Intercessory Prayer

What would happen if people all over our nation and the world started singing when they prayed—especially for what is happening in the USA elections?   See 2 Chronicles chapter 20, and in that chapter note the following verses:  2 Chronicles 20:21-22 (KJV) “21And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers unto the LORD, and that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, Praise the LORD; for his mercy endureth for ever. 22  And when they…

  • I have certainly appreciated your discussion of the meaning of the Hebrew letters in the word, "pray." I use scriptures to pray for others and have especially found Paul's prayers to be useful. I incorporate Ephesians 1:18-19, 3:16-19, Philippians 1:9-11 and Colossians 1:9-12 in intercession. Paul's prayers help me focus on the big picture. Scripturally guided prayer beckons and guides me to move beyond the relatively minor, static details of everyday life and focus instead on God's greater purposes.

  • Thanks Lewis it was a pleasure to do the interview and put out a call to Pastors to pray, preach and partner on the issues from a biblical perspective.

  • Thank you Bro. Turner. I totally stand in agreement. The Lord has allowed me to start a ministry of "Encouragement" to uplift, restore, rejuvenate and exhort the Body of Christ. It is an honor to fulfil all that the Lord has created and called us to do within his marvelous Kingdom. God Bless.....

  • Thank you. May the God who answers prayer give me my hearts desire--to continue growing into a man of prayer--through His teachings through your ministry!

  • Thank you I look forward to learning a lot.

  • Lewis, Thank You for the lesson 1. Music is a prayer to the soul. Many times when I am done in I listen to some type of Christian music and soon I feel the weight of life lifted from my shoulders. "Life is a melody with each stage making its own arrangements with sharps and flats, but  Jesus is the perfect pitdh that brings it all together in unique form creating a personal ballad meant just for you."  So soothing.
