Oil for our Christian Light

There is an old song ‘Give Me Oil in My Lamp, Keep Me Burning’ .  We need God's pure Oil to keep our Christian Light burning.  It is possible that many involved in intercession may feel like with all that is happening around us, that their light is almost snuffed out.

During Hanukkah, the Jews remember the miracle of how the light did not go out until new Temple oil was produced.  There was only enough oil for one day, yet it burned for 8 days giving time for new oil to be available.  Perhaps we should be humble enough to learn from them.

The battle raging before us in reality has almost snuffed out our light.  We need God’s help in making and purifying more oil for keeping our light burning before our Lord, giving light for our paths and ways.  May God enable our light to keep shining as we make and purify the new oil for our light.

In asking the Lord for His help to keep our light burning, consider using the old song ‘Give Me Oil in My Lamp, Keep Me Burning’ as our prayer, and sing it with humility seeking the Lord for the pure Oil that He gives us.

Matthew 5:14-16 (KJV)
14  Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.
15  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.
16  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

  • Lewis, thank you for this timely and encouraging post. I shared the youtube song Give Me Oil in My Lamp with my daugther in law for my grandkids.

    Isa 42:3

NIV A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out. In faithfulness He will bring forth justice.

Prov 4:18 BSBThe path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining brighter and brighter until midday.

Lord, please strengthen us and help us to persevere. Let our light not go out but shine brighter and brighter until the full day. Let You joy be our strength. Thank You. In the Name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.
