This year, Ramadan begins on approximately May 15 (depending on the moon). During the 30 days of Ramadan, Muslims will be fasting and praying. During the month of Ramadan, PTAP will be sending weekly prayers highlighting specific groups and/or events.

The 2 million Shia of Saudi Arabia represent one of the most unreached peoples of the world. As a small minority group within a conservative Sunni community, the Shi'a... in Saudi Arabia have endured hundreds of years of hardship and discrimination. Let us pray on behalf of the Shia people, that they would seek and find true freedom and peace in Christ. Let us also pray that the Lord would prepare workers to engage them.

More information on the Shi'a of Saudi Arabia can be found in this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhWn1W2Zl3w&feature=youtu.be

More information is in this PDF:

Prayer Requests:

•That the Gospel would take hold of their communities, and that the Spirit of God would move mightily among their families and tribes
•For a spirit of childlike humility and repentance to displace pride and hardness of heart
•That the Shi'a of Saudi Arabia would seek first the Kingdom of Heaven, even above their own welfare and political freedoms
•For a spirit of righteousness and justice to flood through their homes, communities, and the Saudi government
•For peace to reign in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. That they would know Christ as the Prince of Peace
•That the Lord would raise up many workers to sow and to harvest the Gospel among the Shi'a of Saudi Arabia

Morning by Morning, May 14 - "All the Treasures"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. O Lord, my God--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit--I worship You in spirit and truth; and I welcome You into my heart and every moment of my day.  ...

"I want their hearts to be encouraged and united in love, so that they may have all the riches of assured understanding and have the knowledge of God's mystery, that is, Christ Himself, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" (Colossians 2:2-3).

Lord Jesus, in You are hidden "all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."  As it turns out, it's all about You! Just as You revealed to Your two disciples walking to Emmaus right after Your resurrection, the law and the prophets all point to You; what's concealed in the Old Covenant is revealed in the Christ of the New Covenant:  "Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, (Jesus) interpreted to them the things about Himself in all the Scriptures" (Luke 24:20). And just as You said to all Your disciples gathered near to You at the shore just before Your ascension back to heaven:  "These are My words that I spoke to you while I was still with you--that everything written about Me in the law of Moses, the prophets, and the psalms must be fulfilled" (Luke 24:44). "Then (You) opened their minds to understand the Scriptures" (Luke 24:45).

Lord Jesus, open my mind to understand the Scriptures. Open my spirit to embrace Your truth and experience Your Presence on my daily journey to grow in "the riches of assured understanding and have the knowledge of God's mystery, that is Christ Himself." There's joy in this journey to seek out "all the treasures" You've hidden away for us to find. "It is the glory of God to conceal things, but the glory of kings to search things out" (Proverbs 25:2).

As I search Your Word and seek Your Presence, I know the more I seek You, the more I find You. That's the Promise of Your Word as well:  "When you search for Me, you will find Me; if you seek Me with all your heart, I will let you find Me, says the Lord" (Jeremiah 29:13-14). The more I seek and the more I find, I find Your Word to be faithful and true that "all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge" are hidden in You (Colossians 2:2-3). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Recently, about 120 people were physically healed at a gathering in a village because they were all hungry for an encounter and for healing. The Lord did an amazing work, but please pray that these souls would also believe in their hearts who Jesus Christ is. Please pray that miracles, signs, and wonders would continue to occur to accompany and confirm the message of truth.
Please keep praying for "Jennifer" whom we have been praying for, the local woman who has been suffering from black magic. Unfortunately, she is still being tormented by evil spirits.  She looks confused and was really sick for nearly two months. She has complained of psychological problems. She went to see a psychiatrist who somehow helped her with some medicine. She is still avoiding her Christian friends. When they try to share Jesus with her, she changes the subject.  Last year, she saw a vision in her bedroom of a large red cross.  Just because some Muslims see dreams and visions doesn't mean they turn to Jesus automatically!  This is a call to press on in our prayers for her.  Let's do just that!

The friends of a believer are asking questions about what she believes, and why. They want to know and understand the whole truth, although they confess they really don't believe. Please pray that their eyes and hearts would be opened to the truth, that they would not reject Jesus Christ, and that they would experience the true love of God for themselves.

Please pray for protection and guidance in discipleship relationships and the wisdom to nurture new believers in a way that will result in indigenous and reproducible churches. Pray for local believers to have boldness and to be strengthened by the Holy Spirit and fellowship with other believers.
"Amy" had hopes and dreams to study and become a nurse one day. Her father had different plans for her, to either marry young or to quickly get a job to provide money for her family. She was forced to quit her studies and is desperately searching for a job that will please her father and prevent an unwanted marriage. She seems to run into dead end after dead end, and her father's patience is running low. Please pray for Amy to find a job soon that will satisfy her father, and that she will find peace in a relationship with her true Father.
Please pray for all local believers who are alone. Pray that the Lord will bring them into contact with people who love Him, that they will know they are not alone and that they will thrive. Pray for them to have boldness and wisdom in sharing with other locals. Pray also for those who try to tell their friends and family about Jesus but are faced with confrontation. In fact, some of their friends and family try to convince them that the Bible was corrupted, and this confuses them. Pray for these local believers to  continue to be bold in sharing with others. Pray for God to remove all confusion from their hearts and increase their faith in His Word.

Please pray for the Word of God to be translated into local dialects. Pray for this project's progression and for those who are doing the translating.
Answers to Prayer

Praise God for answering our prayers during our recent February prayer focus on Yemen! Here are three answers:

1. It has been reported that in February, more than 10 new Yemeni believers were acknowledged. And of course, there could be more of whom we do not know about.

2. The bombings from Saudi Arabia and its coalition have greatly decreased.

3. In the first week of March, a Yemeni university student walked into an international church in the Gulf asking many questions about the faith, even asking "What is baptism?" He then attended a student conference the next day where he received more gospel teaching. The campus workers involved have followed up on him. As of now, he is not interested in the gospel. He is a pluralist who picks and chooses what he likes in different religions. But let's pray for him. Seeds have been sown and he now has Christian friends. Pray that the Father will grow these seeds to bring new life in Christ!

Morning by Morning, May 11 - True Identity

Morning by Morning, May 11 - True Identity

Good morning, Lord Jesus.  Be high and lifted up, here in my heart and every moment of my day.  ...

"Beloved, we are God's children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this:  when He is revealed, we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He is. And all who have this hope in Him purify themselves, just as He is pure" (1 John 3:2-3).

Now, I am Your child--a child of God, a disciple of Jesus Christ, part of the bride and the body of Christ here on this earth and here in my generation. I don't have to wait until I get to heaven when I die or when You return at Your second coming. I am God's child now.

In the same way, You are already revealing who I am, what my true identity already is. I don't already see it all; I don't already see myself completely as You see me. But You are in the process of revealing my true identity to me more and more every day. And it happens as I see You as You are: "When (You are) revealed, (I) will be like (You), for (I) see (You) as (You are)" (v. 2).

I always thought of this as an end time Scripture--something to be fulfilled when I stand in Your presence after I die and go to heaven or if I'm part of that generation on the earth when You return. This Scripture includes those events--whether it's the end time for the world or just the end time for me. "Just as we have borne the image of the son of dust, we will also bear the image of the Man of heaven.... we will all be changed" (1 Corinthians 15:49-52). But I believe Your Spirit is revealing to me that this Scripture is also for today and every day between now and that day to come as well.

Already You are at work in me, revealing to Me who You are and also who I am in You. Already this Word is being fulfilled: "And all of us, with unveiled faces, seeing the glory of the Lord as though reflected in a mirror, are being transformed in to the same image from one degree of glory to another; for this comes from the Lord, the Spirit" (2 Corinthians 3:17). Already You are pulling back the veil for me to see You and see myself as I truly am. And who I am is a child of God, being conformed into the image of the Son of God more and more every day, as I keep seeking You and You keep revealing Yourself to me (Romans 8:29).

Come, Holy Spirit. Keep opening the eyes of my heart--"so that, with the eyes of (my) heart enlightened, (I) may know what is the hope to which He has called (me), what are (my) riches of His glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power for us who believe, according to working of His great power" (Ephesians 1:18-19). More and more every day, may "the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, give (me) a spirit of wisdom and revelation as (I) come to know Him" (Ephesians 1:17).

It has not yet been fully revealed to me just who I am and just who Christ is, but You are at work in me doing just that. By the power of Your grace, give me "a mind to understand, eyes to see, (and) ears to hear" along with the faith to believe it and receive it (Deuteronomy 29:2). I am God's child now (1 John 3:8). Let me see that in myself and let me see that in the children of God around me, being conformed into the image of Christ as we all see with greater revelation who Christ is, who we are in Christ, and who Christ is in us. "Christ in (us), the hope of glory" (Colossians 1:27). More and more every day, let me "see what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are"--our true identity (1 John 2:28). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

My friend, I pray you will see more clearly every day who Christ is, who you are in Christ, and who Christ is in you, knowing the revelation of your true identity as a child of God, in Jesus' name! Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

QUALITY OF LIFE

I was talking with some friends today about medical issues. I told them I had heard people say they didn't want any extreme measures if they were critically ill. But I said, “I want extreme measures.” Life is precious. And it is good even if I am in pain or debilitated.

Immediately one of them gave the common answer that I was reacting against in the first place.

“Well,” he said, “you don't want to live if you don't have quality of life.”

I did not answer him, but I have been thinking about what gives quality of life. I don't believe it is comfort or freedom from pain.

I believe quality of life has to be related to purpose. As writers you know something about purpose. But in fact, any believer in Jesus Christ should be aware of divine purpose. If you are still alive God has a purpose for you on this Earth. God has a purpose for you even beyond this life. And knowing hope beyond this life ought to make us want to fulfill every purpose God has for us until we step into eternity.

If you do not know God's purpose for your life, you need to seek earnestly to learn what He is doing around you. Even if you don't know all that God wants to do through you, you can begin by obeying Him in small things that you know to do.

Among other things, this will shape your prayer life. I have frustrated some loved ones by telling them, “Every time I have prayed for God to heal me, I have sensed Him reminding me that it is appointed unto man once to die. In fact, I have seen a kind of healing. I am still alive years longer than my doctors thought I would be. But I still have cancer.

Earlier one of the friends I was talking to said, possibly in jest, that he wouldn't want to live if he couldn't play golf. Particularly as a writer I know I can still enjoy things I can no longer participate in. This really relates to being an intellectual. I don't think being an intellectual necessarily means you are smart. I have explained it like this for years. I would rather hear or tell a story about a boy hitting a homerun than to hit a homer myself. I have enjoyed fly fishing for a long time. I am afraid I can longer negotiate the rough stream banks. But I can still enjoy fishing in my memories and imagination.

So how do I pray for my cancer, and my life for that matter? I pray what David prayed in Psalm 138. “Lord, fulfill your purpose for me.” If God allows me to live when I can no longer write, then I hope I can still pray for people around me. And I pray that He will be glorified in me however He brings that about.

When I was a young woman, I had many opportunities to visit my widowed grandmother while I attended college in her town. As she grieved my grandfather’s death, she reflected her trust in God to care for her and showed how God sustained her each day, by claiming the promise Jesus gave His disciples after His resurrection.

“Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the world.”

Matthew 28:20 (KJV).9651009897?profile=original

My grandmother’s faith that God would always be there for her made a significant impact on my life. Her testimony influenced me to incorporate that verse into my daily experiences. Since those early adult years, whenever life has been painful, disappointing, or downright discouraging, I have claimed that same scripture verse. My prayer is that I will have opportunities to reflect my life experiences of trusting God during my difficult times to my children and grandchildren.

In Proverbs 27:19 we read, “As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the person.” However, we may ask what does that look like. When we meditate on God’s Word and grow in our relationship with God, we will reflect God’s glory because we are being transformed into His image. We glorify God when we reveal or manifest his character by the way we live by demonstrating God’s love to those around us.

Grandparents, who love the Lord, have a responsibility to reflect a godly lifestyle to our grandchildren. We must ask ourselves, is my walk with the Lord in the lives of my grandchildren.

My grandmother made a lasting impression on my life because she reflected her faith in God’s provision to sustain her during her time of grieving. When we reflect God’s love to our grandchildren, and they are walking with the Lord, our love for God will keep on living through our grandchildren.

Questions to ask ourselves:

  • What does the reflection of my life look like to my grandchildren?
  • Do I want my grandchildren to imitate my spiritual life?
  • Will they want my Jesus?

Pray your love for God will keep on living through your grandchildren, even after you are deceased.

 Prayer

Lord, forgive me when I have not taken the time to be in Your Word

and model the life of a godly grandparent.

Help to take the time to read and meditate on Your Word every day

So I will reflect your face in the heart of my grandchildren,

Even after I have passed on to be with you.

In Jesus name.

Morning by Morning, May 9 - Waiting on God's Words, Being "Patient with Purpose"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. King of kings and Lord of lords, be King of my heart and Lord of my life, this day and every day. ...

"My child, pay attention to what I say. Listen carefully to My words. Don't lose sight of them. Let them penetrate deep into your heart, for they bring life to those who find them, and healing to their whole body" (Proverbs 4:20-22 NLT).

Lord, let Your words penetrate deep into me heart. Your words "are spirit and life" (John 6:63). Your words are "trustworthy and true" (Revelation 21:5). And every one of Your words will come to pass, none returning empty or void, but each one fully accomplishing the purpose for which You sent it (Isaiah 55:11).

My Father, is there a word of spirit and life You want to penetrate deep into my heart this morning, as You set the course for my life today?  ...

It seems I hear You saying:  "My child, My words are like seeds I have sown into Your heart. Some have sprouted and grown to the maturity of harvest. But most are still growing from deep within, even still hidden beneath the surface of the soil of your life. What is hidden will be seen and will also grow to the fullness of maturity in Me--all in My time and all for My purpose through your life, My child. So be patient with purpose, for My words in Your heart will surely come to pass, bringing life to you and all I will touch through you."

Yes, Lord. Help me learn to be "patient with purpose" as You have said. Give me Your grace for that. "Love is patient" (1 Corinthians 13:4). Thank You for loving me through Your patience with me. Help me love You back with my patience with You and Your words for me.

You've sown Your seeds with purpose into my soul. "In Christ, (I) have also obtained an inheritance, having been destined according to the purpose of Him who accomplishes all things according to His counsel and will, so that (I have) ... set (my) hope on Christ (to) live for the praise of His glory" (Ephesians 1:11-12). By Your grace, I have "heard the word of truth" and now I'm "marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit" to bring forth every word You've sown into me for the harvest of Your will for my life--all in Your time, all in Your way, all for Your glory. Thank You for continuing to give me patience to see every word come to pass. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, I pray you will be "patient with purpose" as you wait on God's words of spirit and life to come pass in Your life, in Jesus' name! May you know in your soul that is will be worth the wait! Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, May 8 - True Unity in the New World Order and One World Government

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Awaken my soul as I focus in on You first with all my heart and mind and soul and strength. ...

"Now the whole earth had one language and the same words. And as they migrated from the east, they came upon a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there. And they said to one another, 'Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.' And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar. Then they said, 'Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth" (Genesis 11:1-4).

There's a false unity that's fueled by the human pride to "make a name for ourselves." It has its own language, with its own words. And it's purpose is to build its own kingdom. It seeks to exalt its tower of authority and power over the whole earth and into the heavens. It's inspired and empowered by the same spirit that says, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit on the mount of assembly on the heights of Zaphon; I will ascend to the tops of the clouds, I will make myself like the Most High" (Isaiah 14:14).

It's the opposite of the true unity You desire--"the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace" (Ephesians 4:3). This is the "unity of the faith" as we put our faith in You instead of ourselves, building Your kingdom instead of our own, humbly and willingly choosing to desperately dependent upon You alone for our true sense of identity and destiny (Ephesians 4:13). United in You and united with one another in our bond of humility and faith, "there is one body and one Spirit, just as (we) were called to the one hope of (our) calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all" (Ephesians 4:4-6).

In the true unity of Your Spirit--where we exalt Your name instead of our own, living for You instead of ourselves--You pour out every blessing of heaven we'll ever need:  "Behold, how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord commanded the blessing--life forevermore!" (Psalm 133:1-3 NKJV).

And in that spirit of unity, all the world will begin to see You--seeing You in us, as we abide in You and You abide in us as one body with one Lord, one faith, one God and Father of all. As the Son of God and Son of Man walking this earth in the flesh and blood of Your incarnation, You prayed to the Father this great prayer of unity:  "As You, Father, are in Me and I am in You, may they also be in Us, so that the world may believe that You have sent me. The glory that You have given Me I have given them, so that they may be one as We are One, I in them and You in Me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that You have sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me" (John 17:21-23).

This is the true unity You long to see. This is the new world order You've envisioned from the beginning--the "new heavens and a new earth (Isaiah 65:17; 2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21:1). This is the one world government You passionately desire--the "government (that) will be upon (Your) shoulder... (and) of the increase of (Your) government and peace there will be no end" (Isaiah 9:6-7). In the unity of Your Spirit, "the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign forever and ever!" (Revelation 11:15 KJV)  In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, I pray you united with Christ and His body in the Holy Spirit in one faith of true unity with our one Lord, one God and Father of all, in Jesus' name! Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, May 7 - "Go Out and Grow Fat!"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I speak out Your name and listen for Your leading to begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with Your Holy Spirit.  ...

"'For behold, the day is coming, burning like an oven, and all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up,' says the Lord of hosts, 'that will leave them neither root nor branch. But to you who fear My name the Sun of Righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings; and you shall go out and grow fat like stall-fed calves. You shall trample the wicked, for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet on the day that I do this,' says the Lord of hosts" (Malachi 4:1-3 NKJV).

Finally! I knew there was a verse in the Bible somewhere that said "go out and grow fat!" Thank You, Lord for leading me to this verse today! My wife and friends seem to think I'm supposed to go out to the gym and grow skinny. But no doubt, that would only lead me to be among "the proud" and find myself among the "stubble" instead of among the humble and hearty. Yes, Your ways are truly higher than our ways and Your thoughts are higher than our thoughts!

But somehow, even as I write my morning prayer today, I sense You are speaking something deeper. You're speaking of the blessings that come with obedience to You, flowing out of a trusting relationship with You. When we are among those "who fear (Your) name," who honor Your Word, who entrust their lives to the One who loves us and leads us in the paths of righteousness, "the Sun of Righteousness" arises in our lives. And even the enemy of our souls is trampled under our feet.

So, Lord, please forgive me for taking a little liberty and having a little fun with my morning prayer today. But after all, You are the One who said, "Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty" (2 Corinthians 3:17 NKJV) and "in Your presence is fullness of joy!" (Psalm 16:11 NKJV)  "Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; my flesh also will rest in hope" (Psalm 16:9 NKJV).

Forgiven and free, would You fill me afresh with Your Spirit today (Ephesians 5:18).  By the power of Your grace, may I go out and grow fat in the security of my identity in You, living into the fullness of the destiny of my blessings in You--"leaping like a (fat) calf from the stall!" (Malachi 4:2 NRSV)  In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, I pray you are filled with the joy of the Lord today, going out and growing fat in the fullness of all He has for you and desires to do through you, in Jesus' name! Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Prayer Opens Heaven

What is the result of prayer? Does it make the pray-er feel better? Yes, but it does more than that. Does it fulfill biblical instructions? Yes, but it does more than that. Does it follow the model of Jesus? Yes, but it does more than that. Prayer opens heaven. Jesus lived with an open heaven. At His baptism, “When all the people were baptized, it came to pass that Jesus also was baptized; and while He prayed, the heaven was opened” (Luke 3:21). In the midst of His ministry, Jesus encountered one who was deaf, and seeking power from heaven, the Scripture records, “Then, looking up to heaven, He sighed, and said to him, ‘Ephphatha,’ that is, ‘Be opened.’” (Mark 7:34). Neither was this experience limited to Jesus. An open heaven was experienced by Stephen (Acts 7:54-55), Paul (Acts 9:5), Peter (Acts 10), and John (Revelation 4:1-2). When heaven opens, God does what God alone can do. Have you ever prayed for a miracle? For revival? For renewal? How about for a mighty spiritual movement? These are things we can’t provide on our own. But God can. When heaven opens, we have access to that which only God can provide, To “pray without ceasing,” as instructed in 1 Thessalonians 5:17, allows us to live under an open heaven. Need supernatural strength? Need godly wisdom? Need divine favor? Pray till heaven opens.

PTAP: New Believer & Yemen

About a year ago, after trying other religions and philosophies, Anthony (pseudonym)
found that there was none other like the message of the gospel, and he
trusted Christ for his salvation. Although he knows there is the need for cautious wisdom in a Muslim context, he feels that he must share the truth of the gospel with others. In fact, Anthony is in college and has done so with many of his classmates.  Pray that he will continue to grow in faith, love, and hope in the Kingdom.

Prayer for Yemen

Psalm 88: 1-4 O  Lord, God of my salvation. I cry out day and night before you. Let my prayer come before you;  incline your ear to my cry. For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draw nears to Sheol. I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am a man who has no strength. (ESV)

The people of Yemen continue to suffer from the effects of war. It is in times of suffering that many realize their own helplessness and acknowledge their need for God. Pray that the people will turn to Him. Pray that He will lead them to someone who follows the Savior or that He will speaks words of comfort and hope to them, through visions and dreams. Continue to pray for peace in Yemen.

MEASURING THE CHURCH

How do you measure the church? Do you measure it by the beauty and size of the building? Do you measure it by the number of programs and activities? Do you measure it by the number of people who attend or the size of the offerings gathered?

In Revelation 11 John was told to do some measuring. And I think his measurements tell us something about measuring the church.

“Then I was given a measuring rod like a staff, and I was told, ‘Rise and measure the temple of God and the altar and those who worship there.’”

YOU MEASURE A CHURCH BY THE PRESENCE OF GOD.

I do not believe that the temple which John was told to measure was just the temple of God in heaven. I believe it is also the temple of God where he dwells in His church. Ephesians 2:21 says we are being built together as a dwelling for God. You measure the church partly by how its members are bonded together like bricks in a wall. This comes from fellowship, from working together, from facing trials together, from believing together, and most of all from praying together. God’s presence blesses a church whose members are bound together in Him. Is your’s a gathering where God dwells? You can sense the presence of God in a church.

YOU MEASURE A CHURCH BY ITS WORSHIP.

The altar is the place of worship. How important is worship to your church? Do people worship sacrificially, giving everything in their lives to God? Does your church worship joyfully, praising God with all of your hearts? Does service and sacrifice spring up out of love for God?

YOU MEASURE A CHURCH BY THE GROWTH OF ITS MEMBERS.

I think it is telling that John was told to measure the temple and the altar and those who worship there. You do not measure a church simply by the number of people who attend. A church must be measured by the spiritual growth in the lives that God has trusted to it. Are people becoming more Christ-like. Are people becoming more and more faithful, more and more devoted, more and more loving from the ministry of your church?

WRITING IN SACKCLOTH

What I have to say in this blog is particularly painful because I know it is quite likely that knaves will take the truth I write and twist it to make a trap for fools. But while what I say may be misunderstood and misapplied, I believe I have to say it.

I am afraid we have entered times where some of us will need write with a sharp but tearful pen. In The Revelation as God portrays the conclusion of judgment and the bringing forth of righteousness on this Earth, a mighty angel descends from Heaven placing one foot on the sea and one foot on the land declaring that there will be no more delay. John was told to go take a small book from the hand of the angel and to consume that book. Revelation 10:10,11 read's,

“And I took the little scroll from the hand of the angel and ate it. It was sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it my stomach was made bitter. And I was told, “You must again prophesy about many peoples and nations and languages and kings.”

I believe we are already in days when God will give us things to say that will be as sweet as honey. But as we see those things being so alien to the world around us, they will become bitter in our stomachs, and we will have to proclaim them in sorrow.

Concerning his two end-time witnesses to the nations God tells us in Revelation 11:3

“And I will grant authority to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth.”

Some of us will have to write in sackcloth.

Revelation 11;9-11 tells us how the world will celebrate the death of those two when, as their witness is complete, the beast from the bottomless pit finally overcomes them.

“For three and a half days some from the peoples and tribes and languages and nations will gaze at their dead bodies and refuse to let them be placed in a tomb, and those who dwell on the earth will rejoice over them and make merry and exchange presents, because these two prophets had been a torment to those who dwell on the earth.”

It is been at least 10 years since I first wrote that I was resigning from the church growth movement. I knew then that while I needed to say hard things in love and wisdom, I would have to allow God to draw people, and some would not be persuaded. This is not new. Jesus faced the same rejection. John 6:66 tells us,

“After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.”

I suppose the church growth movement would have instructed Jesus at this point. “Jesus did you have to use such inflammatory language as ‘Eat my flesh and drink my blood?’ Couldn't you have said the same thing in a more palatable way?”

Such a ministry is even more onerous in these days because there will be some whose message does not come from God. Let's face it. Most fake news that I read attacks others for not holding conservative values. You can be sure that lying and cheating and calling people wicked names like junior high bullies does not come from God. We will have to counter their proclamations with clear expressions of the truth in love.

Note also that these God-sent prophets in the last days will not prophesy in bitterness and hatred. They are prophesying in sackcloth and sorrow. Their hearts will be broken over the condition and judgment of our world. They will cry out for God to bring people back to Himself.

Morning by Morning, May 4 - Always Ready for the Presence of God

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Help me begin my day embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, and filled with the Holy Spirit.  ...

"The Lord said to Moses, 'Cut two tablets of stone like the former ones, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the former tablets, which you broke. Be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai and present yourself there to Me, on the top of the mountain.... So Moses cut two tablets of stone like the former ones; and he rose early in the morning and went up on Mount Sinai, as the Lord commanded him, and took in his hand the two tablets of stone. The Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name, 'The Lord (YHWH)'" (Exodus 34:1-5).

O Lord, my God--Yahweh, Jehovah, Great I AM, Abba Father--I want to "be ready in the morning" to come up to the mountain of Your Presence, here in the communion of my heart in worship and prayer. Touch Your finger to the tablet of my heart and write Your will for my day along the journey of my life into my soul.

When Moses came down from the mountain, "the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with God" (Exodus 34:24). And now in the "New Covenant, not of letter but of Spirit" in Christ, I never have to come down from the mountain or out of Your Presence (2 Corinthians 3:6; Luke 22:20). By Your great mercy and loving grace, I can be always ready, always available, always waiting on You and welcoming You, always embracing You and Your Presence with me--here in communion with my spirit, shining with the light of Your glory through my heart and upon the countenance of my face. "For it is the God who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ" (2 Corinthians 4:6). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My Friend, I pray you are always ready for the Presence of God, always available for His manifest Presence to fill your heart and flow through your life every day, in Jesus' name! Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

If Timothy’s grandmother Lois had not been faithful in passing on her faith to her daughter Eunice and grandson Timothy we would not have the books, I and II Timothy in the Bible today. Their example is an excellent generational example of the importance of passing on the faith to future generations. Lois is our forerunner who modeled grand mothering for us.

Isn’t it interesting that nowhere in the Bible does it say that the church has the primary responsibility to pass on our faith to the next generation? It makes clear that parents and grandparents are the principal conduits to instruct their children and grandchildren about God and his love for them.

Today, many parents are not passing on the values and faith by which they were raised. Therefore, grandparents have a crucial role to fill, if faith is to be found on earth when Jesus comes back for his own. In the Bible, we read about many people God used in the autumn season of life for life’s most significant work. According to God’s Word, God wants grandparents to focus on passing a godly legacy to the next generation. The demonstrations of our faithful walk with the Lord and our prayers for our grandchildren are potent ways to pass on our faith to the next generation.

Grandmother’s Role

The role of godly grandparents is to communicate their faith in Jesus Christ and pray diligently for their grandchildren. We are also to tell future generations how God has walked with us and demonstrated his mighty works in our lives. God is waiting for us to ask Him for opportunities if we are overwhelmed with how to be a godly influence on your grandchildren. God has given us the responsibility to set a positive example. We do affect our grandchildren one way or another, positively or negatively.

In Proverbs 27:19, we read, “As a face is reflected in water, so the heart reflects the real person” (NLT).What does the reflection of our “real person” reflect? When we are committed to read and meditate on God’s Word, we will reflect a life transformed into his image. As we invest in our walk with the Lord, we are spiritually investing in the lives of our grandchildren by modeling a godly example. As spiritual role models, we can demonstrate the reality of our faith by walking with God through both the storms and sunny days of our lives.

Grandmother’s Prayers

We, as grandmothers love to give gifts to our grandchildren, however, the most significant and most lasting gift we can give them is to be their prayer intercessor, affecting and imprinting their generation with God’s faithfulness. The material things we leave our grandchildren are temporary; however, our prayers and examples can make a significant impact on them for a lifetime. Our most significant blessings will come when we see God answering our prayers in their lives, and we get to see the results. However, we may die before our prayers are answered. Our prayers will not be canceled when we go to heaven, and they will outlive us.

With the pressure on families today, grandchildren need our hugs, reassurance, and wisdom more than ever. It is also imperative for us to communicate to our grandchildren that we love them and accept them, even though we may not agree with their behavior. In today’s broken world, Satan’s purpose is to destroy the family. It is crucial that we pray God will give the mothers and fathers of our dear grandchildren godly wisdom in the monumental task of teaching and guiding our grandchildren in the ways of the Lord. 1

Do your grandchildren see authenticity and sincerity about you in your relationship with God? What a blessing it would be for me to hear my grandchildren say, “I want to have a relationship with the Lord like my grandmother modeled for me.”I hope I can say in the years to come, “I have no greater joy than to hear that my children and grandchildren are walking in the truth” (3 John 1:4).

Ask yourself:

  • What kind of memories will my grandchildren have of me when I pass away?
  • Is my walk with the Lord what I want to be reflected in the lives of my grandchildren?
  • Do I want my grandchildren to imitate my spiritual life?
  • Will they want my Jesus?
  • Will my love for God keep on living through my grandchildren, even after I am deceased?

Prayer

Dear Lord, forgive me when I have not taken the time to read your Word or modeled the life of a godly grandparent.

Help me to take the time to read and meditate on your Word every day

so I will reflect your face in the heart of my grandchildren.

Help me to be a godly example, teaching my grandchildren to live lives of truth

with integrity, authenticity, and seriousness.

Help me to give sound, wise, wholesome counsel and guidance,

encouraging my grandchildren to know and follow Christ wholeheartedly.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Morning by Morning, May 3 - National Day of Prayer

Good morning, Lord Jesus. O Lord, my God--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit--You are holy and You are here--here in my heart and here in every moment of my day.  ...

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance.... Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, on those who hope in His mercy, to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, just as we hope in You" (Psalm 33:12-22 NKJV).

Let Your mercy be upon us, Lord--upon the people of our nation and the nations of our world. We need You. So move in our hearts to seek You, to humble ourselves before You, to call on Your name and turn from our sins and embrace Your ways. Let our rule of law be just and fair. Let our attitude of heart be welcoming and kind, loving and strong. Let our state of mind be the mind of Christ--standing firm in the truth, but also speaking and living the truth in love, sacrificially and courageously for the sake of all that is right and true. And "let (our) light so shine before men, that they may see (our) good works and glorify (our) Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16 NKJV).

This is my prayer for my nation and for the nations of our world. Just as Daniel stood in the gap to intercede for his land, so I join in prayer with all those who humble themselves to pray for our land on this National Day of Prayer:  "We do not present our supplication before You on the ground of our righteousness, but on the ground of Your great mercies. O  Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive; O Lord, listen and act and do not delay! For Your own sake, O my God, because Your city and Your people bear Your name!" (Daniel 9:18-19)  In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, I join in prayer with you and all who love our nation to the Lord our God to hear and move in our hearts and our land, to be a shining light in our world, in Jesus' name! God bless you, my friend!

Father, please forgive us your church for the ways in which we have failed to honor you in our country.  We  pay so little attention to you in our lives and then we decry when our country wanders far from you.  We allow our teaching to be more influenced by the culture around us than by your word, substituting the "wisdom" of men for the timeless truths of Scripture.  We fix our eyes on things of this world rather than on things above, living lifestyles indistinguishable from the world in the ways we use our time, money, and resources.

We rightfully decry unjust systems but then fail to work for justice ourselves.  We have looked to government and politics, to education, to many different places as solutions - when You are the only real solution.

Father, we confess that we are not that spotless bride prepared for her Groom's return.  And we ask for your forgiveness - not only for our sake, but for the sake of your glory.  Bring honor to yourself once again through your church.  Cleanse us.  Purify us in doctrine and practice; in our personal walks and in our community life; in our relationships with our brothers and sisters in you and in our relationships with those far from you.

We long to see revival in our land, Lord, and we know that you will begin it in the church.  Pour out your Spirit on your people afresh, and let your Spirit overflow out of the church into our nation.

In Jesus' name. Amen.

WAITING ON THE LORD

Isaiah 40:31 speaks powerfully to our hope in the Lord. It is one of the most powerful teachings on the practical application of God's hope in our lives.

“They who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength;
   they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint.”

What is the difference between waiting and hoping?

THE STRUGGLE OF WAITING

If you are waiting, you may have put yourself in the place to receive what or who is coming. If you are waiting your eyes are probably not on the horizon as much as they are on your watch. “Why is he late?” “When will they get here?”

There is tension expressed in the word wait. Hebrew words often have vivid metaphors. The word for wait here comes from the word for a string or a cord. And the picture is first of a cord being twisted or stretched.

But then the picture evolves into a cord being bound around something. So we find ourselves bound together with what we hope for when we wait. We see our lives bound tightly to what we are hoping for.

THE STRENGTH OF WAITING

Throughout the Bible our hope is presented as something that is certain. It is dependable. You can Bank on your hope in Jesus Christ. And as your grip on that hope is strengthened, it shifts to waiting as we trust in the fulfillment of the promises of God.

Morning by Morning, May 2 - Appointed and Anointed

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I want to start my day in the center of Your will and surrounded by Your presence--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God.  ...

"Whenever the unclean spirits saw (Jesus), they fell down before Him and shouted, 'You are the Son of God!' ... He went up the mountain and called to Him those whom He wanted, and they came to Him. And He appointed twelve, whom He also named apostles, to be with Him, and to be sent out to proclaim the message, and to have authority to cast out demons" (Mark 3:11-15).

Your first followers to came to You and were sent out by You. They were Your disciples, Your apostles--appointed and anointed to grow in the nature of Your character and to go in the authority of Your name. They were not "the Son of God," but they were sons of God. And so are we--the sons and daughters of God, coming to You and being sent out by You (Romans 8:16). We're led by the same Spirit (Romans 8:14). And the same Spirit and power that raised You from the dead lives in us and flows through us to proclaim Your message of forgiveness and freedom, healing and hope, by Your authority and in Your power, everywhere You send us (Romans 8:11).

Just as the Father sent You, so You send us--filling us with Your Spirit and grounding us in Your Word (John 20:21). Our names are written in heaven and on the palms of Your hands (Isaiah 49:16). And in the authority and power of Your name, even the demons must submit to us and our position in You as disciples of Christ and children of God (Luke 10:19). Thank You for the invitation to keep coming to You in the intimacy of prayer and the communion of Your Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:17).

Thank You for the assurance of Your presence, that You are always with me, abiding in me as I abide in You (Matthew 28:20; John 15:4). And thank You for appointing me and anointing me to go with joy and faith, as You send me to be Your ambassador as an extension of Your Word and Your Spirit, secure in my identity and fulfilling my destiny. This is Your will and Your plan for every one of Your sons and daughters. And even all "creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the children of God" (Romans 8:19).  In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My Friend, I pray you go in joy and faith everywhere Jesus sends you in His authority and power, growing in His nature and going in His name, appointed and anointed as a disciple of Christ and a child of God, in Jesus' name! Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!
