Morning by Morning, May 25 - "In Due Time" -- Travailing, Prevailing Prayer

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Come walk with me and talk with me, here in the cool of the morning and the beginning of my day, I pray.  ...

"In due time Hannah conceived and bore a son. She named him Samuel, for she said, 'I have asked him of the Lord'" (1 Samuel 1:20).

Hannah passionately cried out to You in prayer for You to conceive a child in her barren womb. She was "deeply distressed and prayed to the Lord, and wept bitterly" (v. 10). In her anguish and longing for a child, she was "pouring out (her) soul before the Lord" (v. 15). But in her travail, she dedicated her unborn child to You even before she conceived (v. 11). And one day You spoke Your word through Your servant Eli that she would have the petition of her heart and that she could now go in the peace of trusting You for the answer to her prayers (v. 17). Then "her countenance was sad no longer ... and (She) rose early and worshipped before the Lord" (v. 18-19). And "in due time Hannah conceived and bore a son" (v. 20).

We don't know how long was "due time" but we know it was all in Your time. You're the God who makes all things beautiful in Your time (Ecclesiastes 3:11). And when we allow You to stir in our hearts to travail in prayer, You conceive and birth Your will according to Your plans. You turn our sorrow and sadness into joy and worship. And we look and see and celebrate what You have-all "in due time."

All along, You longed for Hannah to bear a child even more than she did. All along, You knew his name would be Samuel, that he would a prophet of the Most High, that You would walk with him and be with him and "let none of his words fall to the ground" (1 Samuel 3:19). Through travailing, prevailing prayer, Hannah was able to participate in Your plans for Your people, while experiencing the joy and peace of trusting You.

Lord, stir in my heart with Your will. Move me to travail and prevail in prayer, pushing through and praying through until all You have conceived is birthed and brought forth "in due time." Like the apostle Paul said he travailed like a woman in labor for the purposes and plans of God to be made manifest, give me that kind of passion and perseverance in prayer (Galatians 4:19). Let me know the joy and peace of participating with You, as travail until I prevail, as I press in and pray through, proclaiming with all my heart, "Your kingdom come, Your will be done, here on earth as it is in heaven" (Matthew 6:10).  In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

THY WORD

THY WORD

What comes to your mind when you hear the phrase, “Thy Word?” Many of you think of the scripture him, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet.” others of you have memorized from childhood Psalm 119:11 that begins, “Thy word have I hid in my heart.”

This is what to talk to you about today. I am doing something right now that I would really like to encourage other people to do, starting with you. I am trying to memorize the entire New Testament, verse by verse and chapter by chapter. Here is how I am doing it. I read a chapter and memorize the first verse or verses that go together. The next day I read the same chapter over and memorize the next verses. It takes me about a week, sometimes a week and a half, to get the entire chapter memorized and go on to the next chapter. At that rate it will take me just a little over 3 years to memorize the entire New Testament.

I have been helping adults memorize scripture all of my adult life. I've even helped a few who told me beforehand it was impossible for them to memorize. Let me give you 5 Steps that will help you memorize Scripture.

  1. Memorize in only one translation. Some of you have thought you would understand scripture better if you always looked at multiple translations. There is some truth to that but it never applies to Scripture memory. You might be surprised to hear me say that the easiest version to memorize is King James. It is worth an entire blog post to tell you why. And and I myself do not memorize in the King James.
  2. Memorize out loud. Our educational system for some wonderful reasons teaches us to read silently. But you will never be able to memorize silently. A part of this is emphasizing certain words to stick them in your mind.
  3. Repeat the verses over and over, trying to stick the words in your mind and on your lips. Repetition is the key here.
  4. Think about what you are memorizing. The more you understand it the better it will stick in your mind and heart. One of the good reasons for memorizing Scripture is the amount of insight that you will get after you've memorized a verse. But if you can understand something from the start it will help.
  5. Review what you've memorized. Few organizations know more about scripture Memory then The Navigators. (https://www.navigators.org/) There topical memory system, TMS, teaches those who go through the course to review a verse every day for a month.

I will be honest I am not doing this so that I will be able to witness to people with Scripture. Though I must say Scripture memory helps present the gospel. Nor am I trying to do this to use in sermons or even in my writing. My primary reason for this is for God, planting the Scriptures in my life, to transform my character. I want to be more like Christ. And this helps. This evening I spoke with a friend about this on the phone. He told me he thinks of Scripture memory like the parable Jesus told of the wise and foolish virgins. The wise virgins brought oil with them. He said verses he memorized were the oil he brings with him to meet Christ.

But let me tell you the most enjoyable thing about this. When I've memorized a passage I can meditate on it. God feeds my soul, and He feeds my mind. I see things in scripture I had never dreamed were there. And there seems to be no end to what He will show me in His word. It becomes a never ending joy!

Morning by Morning, May 24 - Restoring "the Voice of Joy"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Embraced by my Father, centered in Christ, filled with the Holy Spirit-let this day be good day for Your glory through my life.   ...

"Behold I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth. And I will cause the captives of Judah and the captives of Israel to return, and will rebuild those places as at the first. I will cleanse them from all their iniquity by which they have sinned against Me, and I will pardon all their iniquities by which they have sinned and by which they have transgressed against Me. Then it shall be to Me a name of joy, a praise, and an honor before all nations of the earth, who shall hear all the good that I do to them; they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and all the prosperity that I provide for it.... Again there shall be heard in this place ... the voice of joy and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the voice of those who will say:  'Praise the Lord of hosts, for the Lord is good, for His mercy endures forever'-and of those who will bring the sacrifice of praise in the house of the Lord!" (Jeremiah 33:6-11 NKJV)

Even in the days of great judgment against Israel for her sins and rebellion against You proclaimed through the prophet Jeremiah, You were always pointing their hearts in faith and hope to the time of repentance and restoration. Though they experienced the darkness of the depths of their sin and all the consequences that followed, even then Your heart was to bring "health and healing," the "abundance of peace and truth," Your "pardon" and Your "goodness" and Your "prosperity." Your heart was to return to Your people "the voice of joy and the voice of gladness."

I pray that for the people of Israel. I pray that for all the people of the nations of the earth. I pray that for my people, for my nation, and for my own heart. Let repentance bring revival! Let our sadness and sorrow, our darkness and gloom, be turned to joy and praise! I praise You, Lord, for You are good and Your mercy endures forever! I bring the sacrifice of praise into the house of the Lord! And from the house of the Lord here in my heart, I praise You and thank You for Your forgiveness and grace, Your mercies that are new every morning, and Your heart to heal and restore.

Father God, You are "longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance" (2 Peter 3:9 NKJV). Through Jesus Christ, the Messiah of Israel and the Savior of the world, You "so loved the world that (You) gave (Your) only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For (You) did not send (Your) Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved" (John 3:16-17 NKJV). And when it's all be said and done, Your Word even says that "all Israel will be saved, as it is written:  'The Deliverer will come out of Zion, and He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob; for this is My covenant with them, when I take away their sins" (Romans 11:26-27 NKJV).

With confidence in Your mercy and faith in Your Word, I look forward and pray for "the times of restoration of all things" (Acts 3:21 NKJV). In prayers of faith, praying Your Word into my world, I am "looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God" (2 Peter 3:12 NKJV). Along with all who are moved by Your Spirit to pray Your will, may the people of Israel and all who call upon Your name to be forgiven and free through repentance and faith to be to You "a name of joy, a praise, and an honor before all nations of the earth!" Let it be so here in my heart and here in my generation. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, I pray you experience "health and healing," the "abundance of peace and truth," the Lord's "pardon" and "goodness" and "prosperity," with "the voice of joy and the voice of gladness" rising up in your spirit this day and every day, in Jesus' name! Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Morning by Morning, May 23 - One Thing I Seek After with All My Heart

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Let me be one spirit with You-Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God-here in the intimacy of worship and prayer in my heart and every moment of my day.  ...

"One thing I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after:  to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in His temple.... Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud, be gracious to me and answer me! 'Come,' my heart says, 'seek His face!' Your face, Lord, do I seek" (Psalm 27:4-8).

Stir a deeper hunger in my heart to seek You, to passionately pursue You, as if You were the "One Thing" that matters most. The truth is You are. You are I AM. You are my "All in All" (1 Corinthians 15:58).

It seems I hear You speaking in my spirit:  "I Am worthy of your pursuit. I Am worthy of your surrender of everything else and everything less. I Am worthy of your holy obsession to wholeheartedly pursue Me with all your heart and mind and soul and strength. I Am the fulfillment of all you desire, all you need, and all I've created you to be. Your heart is the house of the Lord. Your heart is My temple. Behold My beauty in your heart; and My glory of My presence will fill My temple in your heart all the days of your life."  ...

Yes, Lord. This One Thing I ask of You, this One Thing will I seek after. Thank You for the promise of Your Word:  "(My) body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in (me), whom (I) have from God... therefore (I) glorify God in (my) body and in (my) spirit, which are God's" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 NKJV). Thank You for the invitation of Your Word to embrace this holy obsession to passionately pursue Your presence:  "When you call upon Me and come and pray to Me, I will hear you. When you search for Me, you will find Me; if you seek Me with all your heart, I will let you find Me, says the Lord" (Jeremiah 29:13).

In response to Your voice and the stirring of Your Spirit, I cry out to You from the depths of my heart in the very words of Your Word:  "How lovely is Your dwelling place, O Lord of hosts! My soul longs, indeed it faints for the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God.... Happy are those who live in Your house, ever singing Your praise.... For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere!" (Psalm 84:1-10)

In the mystery of faith and the power of Your grace, Your dwelling place and Your house and Your temple and Your courts are right here in my heart every moment of every day in You (Romans 8:9). And from this place, here in my heart, I seek the One Thing I'm coming to crave and desire most, above everything else and everything less. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, I pray your heart is stirred with a holy obsession and passionate pursuit of the One Thing who want to fill your heart and your life above everything else and everything less, in Jesus' name! Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Children are a gift from the Lord and parents want the best for their children. Thankfully, the wealth of the oil-rich countries in the Arabian Peninsula has helped children not to be in want. Unfortunately, it has also created a generation of boys and girls who struggle with health issues due to unhealthy fast foods and a sedentary lifestyle. Childhood obesity and diabetes are on the rise at an alarming rate. In contrast, children in Yemen are starving because of the effects of civil war. "Save the Children" reports that about 130 children could easily die each day from starvation and illness.
More information on the children of the Arabian Peninsula can be found in the link at the bottom of this blog.
and in this video:
Prayer:
Dear Lord, we pray for the children in the AP who are suffering because of the excesses in their lives. We pray that they will get the help they need to be physically disciplined with exercise and healthy eating. We especially pray for the children of Yemen who desperately need food and medicine. Oh God, have mercy on them! Even more importantly, we pray that those with excess and those who have nothing will hear about your great love for them. May they hear the Gospel of the grace of Jesus Christ and embrace the forgiveness of sins and the eternal life which you offer.

Requests for training believers in how to start Disciple-Making Movements are growing fast.  Numerous Discovery Bible Studies are happening in several languages and various areas of the Arabian Peninsula and spreading across international borders as people connect by Skype or travel.  It is a simple, transferrable, and easily reproducible method to introduce people to the Word of God and have them experience Him at the same time.  It can also be done even with the illiterate.  Please pray for the Word of God to spread swiftly and that believers will be protected and reproducing. Please pray that those who have tasted and seen that the LORD is good via the Scriptures, Christian media, healings, deliverances, answers to prayer, dreams and visions, etc, will actually be saved by grace through faith.

Please pray for the LORD of the Harvest to pour out three things on the people of the Arabian Peninsula:
  1. The Truth about what He has done for man through the LORD Jesus Christ.
Faith to believe the Truth when they hear it.
  2. Repentance to turn from sin and embrace the Truth to the saving of their souls.

Morning by Morning, May 22 - No Fence of Offense in Christ

Good morning, Lord Jesus. You are here-here with me, here within me, here in all the fullness of the presence of God-Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  ...

"(Jesus) left that place and came to His hometown, and His disciples followed Him. On the Sabbath He began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard Him were astounded. They said, 'Where did this man get all this? What is this wisdom that has been give to Him? What deeds of power are being done by His hands! Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon, and are not His sisters here with us?' And they took offense at Him. Then Jesus said to them, 'Prophets are not without honor, except in their hometown, and among their own kin, and in their own house.' And He could do no deed of power there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and cured them. And He was amazed at their unbelief" (Mark 6:1-6).

There was a fence of offense that keep the people of Nazareth from receiving the blessings of Your grace and love. Their unbelief limited Your power. Their familiarity hindered their honor and restricted their respect. So You moved on to other places and other people who would welcome You and Your message of hope and healing (v. 6b).

Lord Jesus, I want to grow in my familiarity and intimacy with You. I want to be able to say with integrity and truth that "(I) know that the Son of God has come and has given (me) understanding so that (I) may know Him who is true; and (I am) in Him who is true, n His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life" (1 John 5:18). "Thanks be to God, who in Christ Jesus always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads in every place the fragrance that comes from knowing Him" (2 Corinthians 2:14).

But in knowing You, I want to always honor You, respect You, and treasure You. Let me never take You for granted or doubt Your greatness. Let there never be a fence of offense between us and never allow doubt and unbelief to creep into my heart or my faith to block Your blessings into my life. Let my heart be wide open to welcome You in to every moment of my life and every part of my life. By the power of Your grace, may I "be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ, being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God" (Philippians 1:10-11 KJV). In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, I pray your heart is open wide to Jesus, with no fence of offense between your heart and His, with no blockages to His blessings in any area of your life, in Jesus' name! Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

It happened again last week – another mass shooting, this time at the Santa Fe High School in southeast Texas. Previously, this High School was perhaps best known for its role in the fight against school prayer in the 1990s. In 2000, the Supreme Court struck down the school’s long-standing tradition of prayer before football games, ruling that prayer over the stadium’s public-address system violated the separation of church and state. Ironically, last Friday, a member of the school’s football team, killed eight classmates, and two teachers, and wounded thirteen others. And once again, many in the media showed their complete lack of understanding of the role of prayer in a time of tragedy. National and local news commentators read the names of the ten victims of the shooting, and concluded with, “remember to keep these victims in your prayers,” or something similar. Forgive this old professor’s attempt to respond to a “teachable moment,” but I have been praying for the families of the victims, the students who were injured, the officer who was injured, the students who will have a hard time living with the images of last Friday morning, the families who will remember where they were when they got a message from their frightened child, for school personnel who must now finish the semester, for the shooter and his family, for the community, for the state, for politicians who always rush to the scene, and seem to get on camera, but do nothing to prevent a reoccurrence of the tragedy. I’ve even prayed for our country. While I grieve for the victims, they are now beyond the reach of my prayer. I have been praying that their death might finally cause someone, somewhere, to do something to prevent this from happening again. And maybe I should pray that the news media take a crash course in prayer. Just three months ago, I posted “Thoughts and Prayers and More” following the school shooting in Parkland, Florida. I attempted to say then, that while “sending thoughts and prayers your way” was meant for good, it was misdirected and incorrect. Prayer should only be directed to God. I also said then, and I repeat now, prayer is appropriate, needed, and good, but it is not enough. Since then, reasonable suggestions that would make mass shootings less frequent, have been made, but little to nothing has been done. A Parkland student pleaded a response to the Santa Fe shooting, “This is the 22nd shooting just this year. DO SOMETHING!” I agree and repeat my scripture from my February 26 post - “To him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin” (James 4:17).

"God seeks intercessors. He longs to dispense larger blessings. He longs to reveal His power and glory as God, His saving love, and more abundantly. He seeks intercessors in larger numbers, in greater power, to prepare the way of the Lord." Andrew Murray

Did you realize that if you are involved in intercession, you are working with God to determine the future? Certain things in history will happen through our intercession if we pray the way God wants us to pray. We have authority in prayer to actually see our cities changed and to prepare the way of the Lord. In many ways history belongs to the intercessors. When we pray, things happen in the spirit realm.

I revisited a particular city in Turkey and remembered a prayer I had prayed in that very city several years before. It was as if at that moment God showed me that He had remembered my prayers, and that it was important and would have a powerful effect in that city one day.

God remembers every prayer you pray, and every one of them prayed through the power of the Holy Spirit has effect on earth. Not one prayer is forgotten. Your prayers matter to God.

How can you be the history-maker for God's purposes in your city?

“Prayer is power and strength, a power and strength that influences God, and is most salutary, widespread, and marvelous in its gracious benefits to man. Prayer influences God. The ability of God to do for man is the measure of the possibility of prayer." E. M. Bounds

Here are some ways you can pray for your city and make a difference. You may want to pray these prayers for your nation, church or neighborhood as well. Know the areas where God wants you to intercede because He will give you authority in those areas. God is seeking for intercessors. He will accomplish His will through the prayers of His people on earth.

  • Pray that a spirit of intercession falls on your city - If intercessors cry out for a spirit of intercession to invade their city, people will change and prayer will increase. Christians who had never felt like praying before will begin to pray. Prayer can be activated in your city.

  • Pray for corporate worship and prayer to arise in your city - Pray that the Church begins to come together in corporate worship and prayer. United worship tears down the powers of darkness in your city. Pray for state gatherings of worship and Houses of Prayer to be raised up.

  • Pray for the key authority structures and spiritual leaders in your city - Pray for all pastors and government leaders. Pray for faith, wisdom and holiness in the leaders in your city. Pray that God will help them to lead His people into holy living in difficult times.

  • Pray for God to reveal the lawless structures in your city - Pray that all terrorist plans and evil hidden plans will be exposed in your city and nation. Pray that unjust laws will be overturned. Pray for Godly rulers in your nation to be elected and put into place.

  • Pray for the church in your city to be empowered by God - Pray for the churches to arise in prayer, godliness and spiritual strength. Pray that the Church becomes a light to the lost in your city.

  • Pray for God to remove complacency in your city - Pray that the churches in your city becomes fervent and on fire for God and His ways. Pray that complacency stops and that the Church awakens to its destiny and calling in the last days.

History belongs to the intercessors. Your city needs intercessors that will cry out to Him day and night with great boldness and expectation. God is seeking for intercessors. Will you be one?

The hope for the nations is an anointed prayer movement. It is God’s people knowing the strength and the power of prayer and enforcing God’s will on earth through it. God has given us breakthrough authority to change nations. Through our prayers we can change the atmosphere over cities. Through our prayers God releases deliverance and transforms society. Let’s learn to take hold of the strength and power of prayer and pray down God’s blessings on our world.

Here is a 4-minute teaching and prayer for you called: My Petition for Strength and Power in Prayer. This is part of the Intercessors Arise International School of Prayer.

"Millions of feeble, sickly Christians, thousands of wearied workers, could be blessed by intercession. Churches and missions sacrificing life and labor with little result often lack the power of intercession. Souls, each one worth more than worlds - worth nothing less than the price paid for them in Christ's blood - are within reach of the power that can be won by intercession. We surely have no conception of the magnitude of the work to be done by God's intercessors, or we would cry to God above everything to give us a spirit of intercession." Andrew Murray

A Prayer for Hearing God's Voice

A Prayer for Hearing God's Voice

“The word of the Lord came to Elijah… “I will send rain upon the earth.” That was the foundation of that persistent praying and sevenfold watching on the mountaintop. First the ear heard, then the voice persistently claimed, and the eye expectantly looked. First the voice of God, then the voice of man. That is the true order. Tremendous results always follow that combination.” S. D. Gordon

In order to pray God’s will, it is crucial that we hear His voice clearly. We all know what it is like to talk with someone who never listens. It is terribly frustrating. Likewise, God wants us to learn to listen to Him. As we spend time before Him in quiet listening we are able to pray His will more fervently and with greater expectation, hitting the target effectively. When you give God time in listening prayer, He will direct your prayers strategically, even when you don’t realize it.

This 4 1/2 minute pray and teaching will help you to pray and hear God's voice. It is called: A Prayer for Hearing God's Voice

A Prayer to Keep God in the Center

“The biggest battle we each might fight is to stay focused on God long enough to learn to abide in His presence. Before we can redeem the world, we must redeem our time. And we would think that with all the time saving conveniences we have in life, that this would be easy but it is not." Francis Frangipane

A focused life is not scattered in many directions because of the distractions. A focused life always moves to the center even in the busiest times because it is like a magnet attracted to Jesus, knowing that He alone is the one who makes everything work when priorities are in order.

We used to live in Virginia Beach so we learned a lot about hurricanes. A few years ago we had a hurricane called Ernesto that swept through the area. Ernesto was not a very forceful hurricane, yet many trees fell because of the strength of the winds. Many people lost one or more trees during that hurricane. It left Virginia Beach in a huge mess with trees and branches lying everywhere.

The stability of the trees depended on how deep the roots went below the surface. Shallow roots could not stand the force of even a small hurricane. In Virginia Beach in mild weather you could never tell how deep a tree’s roots extended, but in a hurricane the truth was exposed. Shallow roots meant a big downfall. The roots just could not sustain the tree.

Likewise, right now God is developing our prayer life and the depth of our personal relationship with Him. He wants us to be stable and strong in difficult times as we keep Him in the center of our life.

This 4 1/2 minute prayer will help you to keep God in the center of your life. It is called: A Prayer to Keep God in the Center.

This is from the Intercessors Arise International School of Prayer.

Blessings,

MY WORDS INSCRIBED IN ROCK

Have you ever expressed this cry from the book of Job in the Old Testament?

“Oh that my words were written!

Oh that they were inscribed in a book!
Oh that with an iron pen and lead
they were engraved in the rock forever!
For I know that my Redeemer lives,
and at the last he will stand upon the earth.
And after my skin has been thus destroyed,
yet in my flesh I shall see God,
whom I shall see for myself,
and my eyes shall behold, and not another.
   My heart faints within me!

JOB 19:23-27

Job’s longing to be published pumps from his very heart.

Words Formed in His Longing

This cry of Job could have been spoken by most writers. “Oh that my words were written!” “Oh that what I have to communicate were engraved in stone!” Are you driven by such a longing? You need such a driving desire to go through the difficulties and discouragements of writing.

Words Formed in His Suffering

What Job had to say was brought forth by overwhelming suffering. It must have been difficult for Job to understand how crucial his suffering was in the plan of God. I once heard Tim Keller say Job could not have understood that his experience and his words would still be seriously discussed by people five thousand years later.

Make no mistake, what Job discovered and was driven to say, was magnified by his suffering. God never explained to Job what readers of his book are told in the first chapter. But through his suffering Job still speaks to hearts of people to this day.

Words Formed in His Hope

In His suffering and the accusations of his friends Job became even more certain of his hope. His hope was not impersonal. He believed in his Redeemer. At this point Job still had no sense of the redemption or even the nearness of God. But he spoke with assurance about the personal Redeemer who would and will again stand upon this earth.

This week we drove along a Nevada highway where the cattle were free-ranged. And we saw no less than three animal carcasses on the side of the road. They were all partially consumed by scavengers. Job had boils all over his body and felt like his own final decay had begun. He knew he would die, although it did not happen as quickly as he probably assumed. But he knew that even after his flesh was destroyed he would rise again and see his Redeemer face to face.

Words Formed in His Assurance

Job cried out, “I know that my redeemer lives.” I sometimes hate to admit it, but I need a certain assurance, even arrogance to write what I have to say for publication. As a Christian writer much of what I write needs to come from assurance about God. Job's assurance came through suffering as it often does. In his book, The Problem of Pain, C.S. Lewis called pain God's megaphone.

“God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pain: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.”

It is important for a writer to understand that God not only speaks to you in your suffering, but he will speak to others through your suffering.

Words Formed in His Grace

Job's friends were convinced that Job's suffering came to him because of some secret sin. When Job denied this, they countered with the truth that no man can be righteous before God. It is not surprising to me that the strongest source of this information came from a demon spirit. Job 4:15 reads,

“A Spirit glided past my face;

the hair of my flesh stood up.”

And verses 17 through 19 repeat just what we would expect from the one the Book of Revelation calls the Accuser of our brothers.

“Can mortal man be in the right before God? Can a man be pure before his maker? Even in his servants he puts no trust, and his angels he charges with error. How much more those who dwell and houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed like a moth?”

Job does not deny this reality. Instead he tells them he believes in the grace that God will provide through his Redeemer, who is Our Redeemer, the Lord Jesus Christ. We are made right with God because of His great grace.

Words Formed in His Presence

Job speaks as one who doesn't feel the presence of God. Yet he affirms his conviction that the day will come when he will see him face to face. 1 Corinthians 13:12 repeats this same promise.

“Now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.”

By the end of the book God speaks clearly to Job. And Job repents of his pride in dust and ashes.

But even here Job is overwhelmed, and says his heart faints.

Words Formed in His Purpose

Generally in the Bible the word, heart, refers to the center of one's whole being. But this place the word that is translated, heart, is a word for reins like the reins of a horse. When he says, “My heart faints within me,” he is saying, “The direction of my life is overwhelmed by this.” He is saying again, “Oh that my words were inscribed in a book.” He's driven by the purpose that is welling up in him.

Morning by Morning, May 18 - Go About "Doing Good"

Good morning, Lord Jesus. I welcome You here in my heart and every moment of my day.  ...

"Then Peter began to speak to them:  'I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears Him and does what is right is acceptable to Him. You know the message He sent to the people of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ-He is Lord of all. That message spread throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John announced:  how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power; how He want about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him" (Acts 10:34-38).

Lord Jesus, as You walked this earth as the Son of Man-in the nature of man, in the likeness of human flesh and blood-You were anointed with the Holy Spirit and with power. And in Your power, You went about "doing good." Going about "doing good" didn't just mean helping little old ladies across the street, being kind to the cashier, or making a donation to the inner city mission. I'm sure You did all those things and more in Your own way as You were led by the Spirit to see what the Father was doing.

But for You, "doing good" also meant healing the broken and casting out demons to deliver them from evil in the anointing and abiding presence of the Holy Spirit. This is exactly what You said You would do and why God the Father had poured out the anointing of God the Holy Spirit upon You, declaring:  "The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor!" (Luke 4:18-19)

Come, Holy Spirit. Anointed me with Your abiding presence to go about doing good today-not merely naturally, but also supernaturally. Not merely supernaturally, but also naturally. May I be an authentic ambassador and disciple to represent Your name with Your nature, with the authority of the name of Jesus on my lips and the character of the nature of Jesus in my heart. "We are ambassadors for Christ, since God is making His appeal through us" (2 Corinthians 5:20). As You are, so are we to be in our world (1 John 4:17). Just as the Father sent You, so You send us (John 20:21).

I can't do any of that in my power, but only in Your power. Apart from You, I can do nothing (John 15:5). But I thank You that I'm never apart from You (Matthew 28:20). You are "Lord of all" and Lord of my heart (Acts 10:36). So You have empowered me with Your Spirit-"the Spirit of Christ" within me (Romans 8:9). And the same Spirit that raised You from the dead is the same Spirit who lives in me (Romans 8:11). Now by God's grace and Spirit of God, anointing me and empowering me, may I boldly and faithfully go about "doing good" for Your glory today. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

My friend, I pray you go about "doing good" both naturally and supernaturally today with the authority of the name of Jesus on your lips and the character of the nature of Jesus in your heart, in Jesus' name! Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!

Have you heard about a Photo Prayer Journal for your grandchildren? Today I would like to share with you about the Photo Prayer Journal. A number of years ago I developed a Photo Prayer Journal, finding it very meaningful as I was praying for my grandchildren. Many grandmothers have shared with me they found the Photo Prater Journal a great resource and enjoyed using it to pray for them.

A photo prayer journal is a working document to help grandparents pray intentionally for their grandchildren, whether they live far away or nearby. The photo prayer journal will make praying more meaningful. You will feel more connected when you see the pictures of your grandchildren as you are praying for them. I made my photo prayer journal in a three ring binder with a divider for each grandchild, that way I could redo it each year when they start a new school year.

Instructions for Photo Prayer Journal Profile Sheet

On the profile sheet, place your grandchild’s picture in the designated spot and complete the profile with his/her information.

(You may have other ideas to add to the profile.)

Instructions for Prayer Concern Sheet

Make a page to record the date, praises, prayer concerns, and the hopes and dreams for your grandchild on which you want to focus your prayers. If desired, choose a scripture from the “Scriptures to Pray for Grandchildren” or the list of "Prayer Suggestions for the Various Life’s Stages” or other suggestions from the book, Grandparenting with a Purpose: Effective Ways to Pray for your Grandchildren. Record your concerns about their safety, health, physical, mental, emotional, spiritual growth, strength to resist temptations and the deception of the world.

Suggestions

Use your creativity and make the Photo Prayer Journal to meet your needs, these are suggestions to get you started. I use the photo prayer journal only once or twice a week, however, it does make me feel more connected with the grandchildren.

If convenient, take your grandchildren out for a meal or ice cream to ask them for the information needed to fill out the profile sheets, and tell them why you are doing it. You may also ask them the questions on the telephone, through e-mail, or however, you find it convenient. If you are making the journal on the computer, use Print Shop or another program to enhance the pages, inserting your digital pictures, and making as many pages as you need.

I have had a number of grandmothers tell me how they have enjoyed their Photo Prayer Journals. Some grandmothers have told me that they will give the Photo Prayer Journal to their grandchildren when they become adults.

You may find more creative ideas to help you with your praying for your grandchildren in the book Grandparenting with a Purpose: Effective Ways to Pray for your Grandchildrenavailable on this website.

Morning by Morning, May 16 - Praying for Israel and the Peace of Jerusalem

Good morning, Lord Jesus. Speak to my spirit, as I worship You and welcome You into my heart and into my day - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit of God.  ...

"Now the Lord said to Abram, 'Go from your country and your kindred and your father's house to the land that I will show you. I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and the one who curses you I will curse; and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed. So Abram went, as the Lord had told him..." (Genesis 12:1-4).

Father God, I pray for the land of Israel and the descendants of Abram, who You named Abraham. As Your Word commands us, I "pray for the peace of Jerusalem" that there may be "peace within (her) walls and security within (her) towers" and that I may "seek (her) good" (Psalm 122:6-9).

Your Word also says that there will come a day when "all the nations of the earth shall come together against (Jerusalem)" but in the end "the Lord will give victory" to Your city "and on that day (You) will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem" (Zechariah 12:3-9). And at the same time, Your Word says "(You) will pour out a spirit of compassion and supplication on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that, when they look on the One whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over Him, as one weeps over a firstborn" (Zechariah 10). Then an amazing prophecy of Your Word will be fulfilled before the eyes of all heaven and earth:  "On that day a fountain shall be opened for the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity.... They will call on My name, and I will answer them. I will say, 'They are My people'; and they will say, 'The Lord is our God!" (Zechariah 13:1-9).  As they "look on the One whom they have pierced," may they cry out to You from the depths of the pain and desperation of their hearts, "Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord!" (Psalm 118:26).

As You promised the people of Your city many generations ago:  "Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing! See, your house is left to you, desolate. For I tell you, you will not see Me again until you say, 'Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord'" (Matthew 23:29). And Your Word that cannot fail will be fulfilled:  "So that you may not claim to be wiser than you are, brothers and sisters, I want you to understand this mystery:  a hardening has come upon part of Israel, until the full number of the Gentiles has come in. And so all Israel will be saved; as it is written, 'Out of Zion will come the Deliverer; He will banish ungodliness from Jacob. And this is My covenant with them, when I take away their sins" (Romans 11:25-27).

Father God, I want to come into agreement with Your will and Your Word, praying by the leading Your Spirit in the name of Jesus. I want my words and my prayers to be in alignment with Your heart for Jerusalem, for Israel, for her people, and all that they represent in the face of every means intended to destroy her by her spiritual enemy seeking use the nations of the earth to come against her in every generation. Use their struggles to turn their hearts to You, the Savior and Deliverer of all-"that (You) might create in (Yourself) one new humanity in place of the two, thus making peace, and might reconcile both groups to God in one body through the cross" (Ephesians 2:15-16).

Through my words and prayers, I sense a leading to be a part of all that You intended in the image of Your Word of the wings of the
great eagle" sent to lift up Your people in the face of destruction:  "So when the dragon saw that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male Child. But the woman was given the two wings of the great eagle, so that she could fly from the serpent into the wilderness, to her place where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time" (Revelation 12:14). I don't know all that this means or represents, but I do want to be a part in my generation and my nation to take my place among "those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus" even in the face of "the dragon (who is) angry will the woman, and went off to make war on the rest of her children" (Revelation 12:13-17).

Come, Holy Spirit. Show me how to pray in these days. Pray through me and all You are moving to pray for Your people and the people of all the earth in our times. "The Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God" (Romans 8:26-27).

These are both frightening and exciting days to be alive and called to the work and advancement of Your kingdom for such a time as this. "We know that the whole creation has been groaning in labor pains until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. For in hope we are saved" (Romans 8:22-24). I groan in prayer for Your people and all who are to be saved by the grace of God through Jesus Christ, as I groan and labor in prayer for the day that "the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea!" (Habakkuk 2:14) May I be found faithful to be among those You've led to be "looking for and hastening the coming of the day of the Lord" (2 Peter 3:11) In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
Be encouraged today! In the Love of Jesus, Tommy Hays

Tommy, I pray you will be moved by the Holy Spirit to pray according to the will of the Father in the name of Jesus for Israel and all the nations and people of the earth, in Jesus' name! Please pray the same for me. God bless you, my friend!
