Pray ... or Check Facebook?

9651005884?profile=original Our pastor preached on prayer at church yesterday. It was good for all of us in the congregation, I think,  to do a bit of a self-check on how well (and how regularly) we’re communicating with God these days.  It’s easy, isn’t it, to get stuck in a rut? Or get sidetracked all together! (Hmmm …  Should I pray, or check Facebook …?)

Don’t laugh.  I’ll bet it’s a more common choice than…

Got Kids? Pray First, Open Mouth Second

9651006274?profile=original It’s been said that the family that prays together, stays together—but do you know just how true that really is? Seriously! A 1993 Gallup poll revealed that among married couples who attend church together regularly, the divorce rate is one out of two.  How sad. That’s the same statistic as for marriages anywhere. But get this: among couples who pray together daily, the divorce…

No Presence, No Power

I’m still reflecting on my commitment to spend more one-on-one time with the Lord. It’s one thing to talk about it (or write about it). It's another thing altogether to follow through and actually DO it.

I love Psalm 27:8: My heart has heard you say, “Come and talk with me.’ And my heart responds, ‘Lord, I am coming.’” I…

The Prodigal Pray-er

If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say (or said myself), "I know I need to pray more ...," I would no doubt be a great deal richer than I am, if not a millionaire! I just found myself saying it again yesterday, which prompted my thoughts in that direction afresh. Why don't I?

Surely it’s not simply…

  • Betty Jo & I are BLESSED by YOUR friendship & partnership in the mutual "calling" of the Lord as "prayer coaches"...encouraging all who God directs to cross our path (especially pastors and church prayer leaders) in their personal and corporate prayer life. Just read/enjoyed your article (The Prodigal Pray-er); and am trying to figure out HOW to navigate all these 21st century communication networks (Facebook / Pray Network, etc.) and keep-up with plain old e-mails. Wonder if all this communicating with others could be MY "prodigal praying" stumbling block?? Blessings...Dennis
  • Hi Arlyn, It is so good to have friends who pray and encourage others through writing. Good to see friend, Carol Madison's photo and note too. I used one of her great articles in the Prayer Connection e-letter recently. Keep on praying and writing...For God's glory, Elaine
  • Hello, Arlyn! Great to hear from you and see your profile picture. Kind of miss reading your articles in Pray! I'm doing well....keeping busy and paying the bills thus far. Started my own editorial business a couple of years ago, and now do work for three prayer ministries (Prayer Transformation, Prayer First, and GDOP Minnesota). Love wearing slippers and working at home a lot of the time. I also get to be a part of the church that Bob Bakke (GDOP) pastors in Bloomington, MN. So prayer remains the heartbeat of my work and ministry. Praying for that coming revival! :) Thanks for checking in. Perhaps our paths will cross again some day. I would like that. Bless you!
  • me too! we can figure it out together! hope you have a wonderful weekend! i miss seeing your face! love ya!
  • Always enjoyed your column in Pray! Usually one of the first articles that I would read.
