"Sanbi" is Japanese for praise. "Inori" is Japanese for prayer. Praising God, this a group for all who are committed to praying for the nation of Japan, so that many souls would be saved, and that praise for God would resound through the islands.

  • Brenda:  Yes, Japan needs God in a big way. The first missionary arrived here some 400 years ago ( I think the name is Francis Xavier?)  He made a lot of converts in a short period of time. Unfortunately, almost all of them were martyred. Today, less than 200 thousand Christians are around in a population of 120 million. We have not harvested much out of that martyrdom. Compare that to over 50 million Christians in China in less than 20 years..

  • I have been reading the book " Raising the Dead" by the cardiologist Dr. Chaauncey Crandall, and this has had kindled in me the need to join a group with GOD on its mind 24/7. I hope I have landed in the right place. Thank you
  • For long now I have been wondering about the situation for the church group in Fukushima. How are they infected by the serious nuclear devastation and by the tsunami in general. What needs should we pray for in this severe catastrophe ?

  • It has been some time since last comment on this wall. I just want to say hello to all of you who are praying for Japan. When I was a child my father wanted to work for the norwegian seamens church in Kobe. We were so exited to go to Kobe but in the end my parents decided to return to Norway. So praying for Japan is a privilege and so important.

  • Look for all updates in the Discussion Forums, under the appropriate heading. To date, we have three categories: Fukushima Church, Niitsu church, and general prayer requests. Thank you for praying for Japan!
If you are in Japan or have a direct connection there, feel free to add your own discussion category and updates!

A resource for Japanese ministry in North America that I recently heard about. Perhaps I'll be able to get connected to some Japanese people living nearby? Pray for Japanese people living abroad. More expat Japanese live in the US than in any other country.
  • Today I'm filled with praises for a new ministry starting up in Fukushima, Japan. A small church in Fukushima city had a ministry through an English school at their church for a number of years, but eight years ago, the school was closed because of a shortage of teachers and the isolation of the one teacher at the school. This year, the school is reopening, with one teacher to get things started, and another coming soon. So far, there are about 20 students, the majority of them coming for the free English bible study. The vision for this school is to reach people in the community and connect them with the church. Praise God for this fresh new start, and pray in the Spirit for the glory of God to flow in to this church and community!
  • Today, my prayer for Japan is just simply that more Japanese people would have the mind of Christ, that God's glory would be seen here.

I visited Hiroshima's peace park and museum today... grieving the suffering they faced, but grieving more that I can't see how they are responding to similar, longer-term suffering in the world today...

Lord God, please grant to Christians in Japan more of the mind of Christ, to walk in his steps. Lead them and strengthen them to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, fight for the poor and the oppressed around the world. Lord, you have blessed this nation with wealth and many resources. Help more of them to take the next step in using all you have given them, to be your hands and feet to all who are in need, that your glory may be known in their lives.

Fukushima

Partnering with a small church in Fukushima city, two of my friends are seeking to open doors for ministry. They haven't yet joined this group, but they do have a blog: http://byfaithinfukushima.blogspot.comThere are churches in Fukushima, but they don't usually want to work together. My friends are there in a really small church where at least the pastor is excited to work with other churches, and there is at least one other church with the same mindset. Prayers for unity among the Christians…

Niitsu church

For a long time, a very small church in Niigata, called Niitsu Lutheran church, has been on my heart. There are only six members. They don't have their own pastor. They have faith, and they faithfully meet every Sunday afternoon, but they don't seem to be growing, and they know it. Please pray that they would grow in maturity of faith, trusting in God to provide and bless their obedience, and be seeking out God's will for their growth, that they would know clearly how God wants them to be…

Prayer requests list

As this group grows, we will see a lot of prayer requests that may need a long time persevering in prayer. To organize ourselves, I'm starting this general "discussion" as a place to post basic prayer requests for Japan. Then, we can periodically return and use the list as a prayer resource. For broader, ongoing prayer requests, I will also start separate discussions so that we can log updates and praise reports.May God's glory be seen in Japan!
