water (7)

Ramadan begins this coming Saturday (May 27), and many throughout the Arab Peninsula will be fasting, going to special prayers at the mosques, and spending time reading the Qur'an more. Pray that Jesus will visit many in dreams and visions during this special time, and that there may be a hunger for Truth among many in the Arabian Peninsula. Also pray for the Muslim background believers during this time--that they will hold on to their faith with steadfastness and not be ashamed of the Gospel.

Pray that believers in the Arabian Peninsula will keep themselves in the love of God (Jude 1:21). Ask that the believers will gladly receive the never ceasing stream of living water, i.e. the love of God, with praise. Pray that the believers will sense the love of God in the workplace, streets, in conversations with local neighbors, in whatever they do...

PTAP: City Focus: Dhaid, UAE

Dhaid is an oasis town in the UAE.  It is what a typical city might look like in the United Arab Emirates if oil wealth had not radically changed the country.  This city does not boast any massive skyscrapers like its neighbors Dubai and Abu Dhabi, but is a desert city with some agriculture and many date palms.

Throughout history, the nomadic Bedouin tribes would pass through Dhaid because there was fresh drinking water and beautiful oases. Desert cities like this need life-giving water. Because of city growth and the expansion of agriculture, much of the ground water is drying up.

In the past, this was a political center for certain Bedouin tribes.  The Kitbi tribe is prominent in Dhaid.  This is the tribe of Fatima Mubarak al-Kitbi, the "Mother of the Emirates," the third wife of the founder of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed.

The city is expanding and more industry is being developed here.  However, some of the locals are still Bedouin in their thinking and like to be in the desert with their camels.

Prayer Points:
  1. Pray that the Lord of the Harvest, Jesus Christ, will send workers into Dhaid and the surrounding area to be witnesses for Him.
  2. Jesus Christ is the living water and the bread of life.  Pray that Emiratis in Dhaid will come to Him as the giver of living water and eternal life and be satisfied in Him alone.
  3. Pray that the Kitbi tribe would come to know the Lord Jesus and use its influence to lead others into His Kingdom.  Pray that they would be known as an Emirati tribe that follows Jesus Christ!

PTAP: City Focus - Rustaq, Oman

Rustaq is an important regional center in Oman that is located in the South Al Batinah region of the country.  It has a population of 120,000.  It became one of Oman's capitals when Imam Nasser bin Murshid Al Ya'rubi started his efforts to unify the country by repelling the Portuguese in the 17th century.  The city later developed into a major center for local commerce, craftsmanship and other trades.  It was home to some of the country's finest metalworkers and silversmiths.  Today, Rustaq still produces metalwork along with textiles and food, notably Omani Halwa (a famous Omani sweet) and honey. Bee-keeping remains a popular, local occupation to this day.

Rustaq is beautifully surrounded by the central Al Hajir mountain range and an abundance of date palm groves and wadis (valleys).  Some of Oman's most beautiful wadis such as Wadi Sahtan are here.  Rustaq also has natural, hot springs, the most notable being Ain al Kasafa. Its waters runs at 45 °C and are regarded as a cure for rheumatism and skin diseases.

The majority of the population is Omani who still maintain traditional lifestyles in spite of Oman's rapid development as a country.  They are proud of their heritage and hope to keep it alive for generations to come.
Prayer Points:

1.  Rustaq is one of the least engaged cities in Oman.  Please pray that the Lord would send laborers into the harvest fields of Rustaq, to proclaim Jesus Christ and Him crucified with all of God's power (1 Corinthians 2:2-4).  And pray for the few Indian and Filipino believers who already live there.  Pray that they would be powerful witnesses as well.

2.  Rustaq is known for its natural beauty.  Pray that the Omani people in Rustaq would see the beauty of our Lord, that they would gaze upon His beauty in the radiant face of Jesus Christ, and to seek Him all of the days of their lives (Psalm 27:4, 2 Corinthians 4:6).

3.  Rustaq is also known for their hot springs.  Pray that the Omanis would drink of the living water that only Jesus can provide.  Pray that they would be led to eternal life and thus never thirst again (John 4:14).  Pray that they would find complete satisfaction in Christ alone, and that the springs of water that well up in them would spill over to other Omanis who are also thirsty for new life.

Ibri is the capital of Al-Dhahirah governate in Oman.  For centuries, it has been a strategic crossroad between Oman and the other Gulf States.  It is located at a nearly equal distance from Muscat, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi. Being midway between Nizwa, the ancient capital of Oman, and the strategic Al Ain/Buraimi Oasis, Ibri has a long history of being a trade route for Bedouin caravans that would find water and shelter in its oases and numerous wadis that provide life-giving water.  In fact, the name "Ibri" means the "place of crossing".  Roads through the mountains have now made stronger connections with Sohar, a major port on Oman's Gulf coast.  Given its strategic location and continuing in the tradition of being a crossroads, the Omani government has recently built a major road from Ibri that heads off to Saudi Arabia, connecting the two countries.

With modern development, Ibri is growing into a major commercial center in Oman with an ever increasing population - over 100,000.  It is now the 4th or 5th largest city in Oman. There are colleges, hospitals, schools, and a tight connection with the oil industry. Fahud, where the first oil wells in Oman were drilled, lies in the wilaya (or province) of Ibri.
The Omanis of Ibri come from important Beduoin (nomadic) and Hadhar (settled) tribes known for their friendliness and hospitality.  They are strongly grounded in their traditions and yet are open to new developments as they arise.  They have a quiet pride about their city and are anticipating a bright future that showcases their traditions.
1.Jesus says: "Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life."  (John 4:14).  Pray that Ibri would drink and find new life in Jesus.
2.There are few, if any, workers in Ibri as of today.  Pray that the Lord of the Harvest would send workers to Ibri.  Also pray for the Lord to inspire Indian and Filipino expats who already live in Ibri to proclaim the gospel to their Omani neighbors.
3.Ibri is a crossroads city.  Pray that the people of Ibri would stand by the roads and look and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is and then to walk in it and find rest for their souls (Jer 6:16).

PTAP: Politely Hearing

PRAYER

Pray for the people who are living in cities where there is much hardship right now. They hear bombs dropping and face great danger. They have had no electricity and supplies are running low. They are filled with fear. Ask for God to give them comfort and speak to them in visions and dreams, for He never stops loving them. Pray that a peaceful solution for their country will be found.

An isolated, local believer has, for years now, lived under great pressure and scrutiny from her family and has never had the freedom to fellowship with others. Please pray that she will remain strong in her faith and find all her needs met by His presence.

This is the rainy season in a southern AP country. This country is also facing some water shortages in some cities due to fighting. Ask that the rains will be plentiful this year and that people will have the water they need.

Pray that relief efforts to help those in a country torn with strife, will be successful. Pray that humanitarian aid will get to the people who need it and that in the process, the people will know that others around the world are concerned for them and are praying for them.

TESTIMONY
"Muna" listened politely as "Carl" illustrated the meaning of Jesus' death for us guilty sinners.  "That's beautiful!" Muna responded.  But Carl was aware that it was only a tender story for Muna, not registering as her personal need.  So many hear only politely.  Pray for the convicting Spirit of God to impress upon each listener their personal need of repentance.

DAYS 1-21 CAN BE SEEN HERE

DAY TWENTY TWO:
VERSES:

"Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help of my countenance and my God"....Psalm 43:4

PRAYER: (Against Anxiety, Day 4

book%2Bcover.jpeg

Heavenly Father, Your Word is written in the Heavens and forever it is true. It rises to the ends of the earth, seals joy in the hearts of many, fear in the hearts of most and a lack of concern in the hearts of others. Your Word is sufficient for me. It drives me, it inspires me, it instructs me in the night and directs me in the day. It washes over me, it anoints my head even, with the oil of joy as its beauty overrules the ashes and soothes the souls to the point of healing.  It is a balm in Gilead and the river of cool water - nay, an oasis in the dry thirsty desert of life. It gives Life. Your true Word, oh God, gives life and love and limitless Grace to the humble while condemning the proud.

How can my soul be downcast when I drink in Your Goodness, as seen in Your Promise. How can I wallow in self-pity, anxiety, fear and nervousness when I consider Your Heavens, the Work of Your Fingers and the Majesty of Your Creation. You made man and even the Son of Man, a little lower than the angels. You gave Him up as a sacrifice to sin, like a sheep led to slaughter only to let Him be exalted above all. You raised Him up on the third day to the eternal glory in heaven and on earth. He sits on Your Right Hand of Power for all eternity, one today to rule this earth with a rod of iron, and a heart of velvet love, grace, mercy and compassion. He brings us home at the instant of death, in the twinkling of an eye and our cup runneth over with the hope of eternal life in Your Kingdom, the Kingdom of His Marvelous Light. His Name is Jesus, Adonai. El Shaddai, Your Son Yahweh refreshes me constantly - from day to day. His mercies never cease. Great is His Faithfulness, Lord unto me.

So why should I be troubled and full of turmoil and disquiet in my soul? How can I be ruined in my spirit, walk around with my head hanging down, bumping into things and sad all the day long when my God and my Savior, cares for me? Praise, worship and honor belong to You, oh God, who has shown me the way out of a crisis, any crisis which affects the souls and lives of men and women - and that way is found in chasing after You first, praising You, worshipping You, staying super-glued and connected to Your Holy Word and obeying every statute and directive which cometh from on High, to my eternal benefit.

You are my God. You are my help in ages past and my hope for years to come.  Be thou my guide while I live upon this earth. Lead me into paths of righteousness and near streams of cool waters and green valleys, that I may continue to rest in you, free from the horror and panic of this world, as the Joy of the Lord shines from my soul giving testimony and proof of the Living Word, who dwelleth within me. Oh Lord, my God, how excellent, wonderful, awesome and mighty is Your Name, the Name of King Jesus, Lord of Heaven's Armies and it is in His Name I pray, amen.

Water Into Wine

I’ve recently been captivated by the story of Jesus turning water into wine (John 2:1-11). I’ve concluded that we all have “water” of some kind that needs to be transformed into wine.

Water is an essential, elemental part of life. But in this story it also stands for the plain, the ordinary, and the bland. Wine, in contrast, has flavor and fizz. Jesus said this kind of wine must be put into “new wineskins,” because it is needs room to expand and grow.

Take a second and ponder what boring, bland parts of your life may be due for a transformation like this. Your job? Your ministry? Your marriage? Your relationship with the Lord?

The good news is that Jesus can turn ordinary things into something extraordinary. If you’ve lost your fizz in some area of your life, He can help you get it back. And if you’ve been stagnating instead of expanding and growing, your turnaround can be closer than you think.

But transformation comes with a price. Jesus’ mother told the servants at the wedding feast, “Whatever He says to you, do it” (v. 5). I guarantee that if you follow this profound advice, your water will surely be turned into wine.

But it’s a pretty radical statement, isn’t it? Are you willing to do WHATEVER He tells you to do? Think about it. That’s the price of transforming your circumstances and your life.

The wedding feast “ran out of wine” (v. 2), and perhaps that’s how you’re feeling today as well. You had money…but it ran out. You had love…but now it seems to be gone. You had dreams…but somehow they evaporated or turned into nightmares.

At such times, it’s easy to feel frustrated or disillusioned. “I never thought it would be this way,” you moan. That’s exactly how the people at the wedding feast must have felt when they ran out of wine.

But the story isn’t over yet…or at least it doesn’t have to be.

No wine? No problem! All you have to do is find out what Jesus is telling you to do. More often than not, He will tell you to give Him something you HAVE (like water) in order to get something you NEED (like wine). Sounds fairly simple, doesn’t it?

So what do you have today, and what do you need? Like exchanging water for wine, I promise you it will be a great exchange indeed.

Those who taste the newly made “wine” in your life may well be like the master of the feast, who did not know where it came from” (v. 9). They’ll wonder where you got such peace, joy, and zest for life, even amid difficult times. What a great chance to tell them about Jesus, the one who can turn their water into wine too.

If you’re a Baby Boomer like me, you may have been tempted to feel that life has passed you by and your best years are now behind you. But this story ends with some additional good news. Jesus didn’t just replace the old wine with something new: He saved the BEST for LAST! (v. 10) He can do the same for you, when you do what He says and give Him what you have.
