Prayer Prompts #1 - #12

One Word Prayer Prompts help us focus on the person, the promises, the provision, of the One to whom we pray

...so that…” transforms a prayer from the present into the preferred future of our discipleship

  • We pray to a threeness-God; to God-theAlmighty the name of God-our-Savior by the filling/leading of God-Holy-Spirit (see Titus 3:4-8)
  • Worship (God-the-Almighty) - Lordship (God-our-Savior) - Partnership (God-Holy-Spirit
  • God is "I AM": In all the Past, Everywhere in the Present, Everyday moment of the Future
Jesus told us to Ask, Seek, Knock (Matthew 7:7)
  • Ask a question ("How do I pray about this?") before you ask for a solution so that you know God's purpose, not merely the problem
  • Seek a Spirit-led, Scripture-fed response
  • Knock on the door (opportunity? barrier?) God points you to and be ready to walk into a new dimension/situation

          Those you Love
          Those who are Lost
          Those with Less
          Those who Lead

          "In the name of Jesus
  • Name refers to the full person of Jesus, not merely his name as distinguished from other names
  • Name confers authority; to pray in Jesus' name means to praise/petition with divine authority, not wishful thinking
  • Name deferred to the end of the prayer is not incorrect but not fully what Jesus intended. Pray "backwards." Begin your prayer with the name of the one who has given you access to God Almighty, the Creator, our redeemer.

6.  The 6 Spheres of Praying
  1. In my Closet
  2. With my Cohorts
  3. Throughout my Congregation
  4. Across my City
  5. Penetrating my Culture
  6. For other Countries

"You should pray like this..." (Jesus; Matthew 6:9)

  • When Moses asked God to reveal Thy (his) name, God answered "I AM who I am" ... which is not so much a name as an indication of God's eternal (endless; limitless) nature and ultimate authority and power
  • When Jesus claims the "I AM" designation, Jesus is revealing his divine nature
  • When you pray each "I AM," first use it to praise the Lord, then declare it as a promise of who Jesus is; now and forever

Faith - Goodness - Knowledge - Self-Control - Perseverance - Godliness - Mutual affection - Love

Use the 9 Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) as a template for:
  • praise and thanks (God's beautiful intention for you)
  • pardon through confession (to be cleansed from falling short of any of these components), and
  • petition to mature into your calling

From "Thou shall not" to ...

For the Church that aspires to become a House of Prayer-FIlled People

Follow Jesus to the place and practice of prayer
