PTAP: Qatar, Quest, Fulfillment

We so often see with earthly eyes and not spiritual, and need reminding that the recent Middle East turmoil surrounding Qatar is both geo-political and in the heavens.

Due to the wealth of the nation, daily lives of residents and locals seem unchanged. The supermarket shelves have been refilled after an initial panic, water and electricity continue, and the minor inconveniences include finding flights that don't go through certain airports.  Locals are hanging Qatari flags on their homes; massive flags are everywhere.  Bumper stickers and t-shirts with the ruler's image and praise appeared overnight. Public rhetoric says, "We're so rich and nice we can outlast your siege and bickering".  The stickers say, with a handsome image, "God, our nation, our leader" and "You have the world, we have our leader".

However, in private, the ripples of uncertainty have begun to fan out.  Companies are finding that components are stuck at the border or in nearby ports, delaying or deferring activity.  In some sectors, there's talk of downsizing the workforce. Milk from Saudi Arabia has been replaced by Turkish. Vegetables have come in from Iran, subtly agitating the sea of political and religious alliances.  Egyptians who form the middle management are reluctant to leave for summer holidays in fear they won't be able to return.  Others are looking for jobs in "more stable" countries, talking of trying to emigrate, and even trying to claim asylum from here.  There is even mention, with tones of unlikeliness, of what happens if someone inadvertently throws the first stone.

Believers have not seen a new openness to talking about eternal realities with local friends. However, the increased conversation gives opportunity for the bold to state convictions that God rules in the heavens and on earth.  And there is always an open door to ask questions regarding the political situation - What's really behind this?  What do you think?  Where is your hope and trust?  From there, it is only a step to sharing where our own faith is grounded. Pray for the believers to have boldness and opportunity to bring in the harvest.

For several years, M has continued a friendship with his former professor.  Recently at M's house, they talked about how Old Testament themes reappear in the New Testament, such as salvation through Moses and Joshua, being fulfilled in a spiritual sense through Jesus, etc. Pray that M will seek to verify the truth that is found in Jesus.

PTAP: The Courage to Trust

In Matthew 6:36, Jesus talks about how God cares for us. Pray this verse for those who love Christ but are struggling with feeding their families. They cannot find jobs in an economy that is failing. Their needs are great. Ask God to provide in miraculous ways for the poor who love Him.

Pray for those who are suffering from fear in cities which are being bombed or where fighting has broken out. Others are feeling hopeless and depressed, wondering about their future. Pray that Christ will appear to them in visions and dreams, giving them hope. Pray that many will come to know Him during this time of turmoil in their nation.

Please pray for the on-going gathering of several university students as they meet with a believing mentor. Pray they will have minds that understand and acknowledge the truth as well as hearts that receive with great joy what they are hearing. May the Lord do a great work in this small beginning so that many will come into His Kingdom.

A Believer in Christ is worried about his mother. She has many health problems and needs to get medical help outside of the country. Due to unrest in her country, it is impossible for her to leave at this time. Pray that God will heal her. Pray that she will accept His love for her.

Testimony
"Saeed", a Shiite Muslim collegian, has heard the gospel several times from his professor, "Daniel" - in the classroom, and privately in personal conversations.  They have become friends in their honest interaction.  Pray that the Holy Spirit will impress on "Saeed's" heart the reality of all he has heard, and grant him the courage to trust in Jesus.

Rebuilding Hope for Today

Rebuilding Hope for TodayOctober 28th, 2010 by Dave KubalSee if these sound familiar:* “America will not recover.”* “By such-and-such date there will be another economic meltdown.”* “You don’t find the U.S. in End-Times scriptures, so surely we will not survive.”* “This is the beginning of the end.”Prophetic half-truths abound these days, and lack a full presentation of the scriptures. God’s immutable Word clearly states that we join him in shaping history. “If my people…” (2 Chr. 7:14), “If the nation I warn repents…I will relent” (Jer. 18:8), “God saw… how they turned from their evil ways, he had compassion” (Jonah 3:10), “If you can find but one person…” (Jer. 5:1).The effects of cloudy half-truths often paralyze the Church. Survival experts will tell you the most important aspect of survival in dire times is to have hope. Silence and passivity are signs that the Church is losing hope for our country. This certainly cannot be the heart of God. In fact, God encouraged his people to “pray for the city” where he carried them into exile, that they might have peace and prosperity (Jer. 29:7).Our God desires to dispense mercy. Yes, justice is foundational to his character, but Scripture assures us that just one turned heart can turn God’s heart. Just one person’s prayer can turn his heart toward compassion. He is always looking to see if our hearts are aligned with his and interceding on behalf of his people. He delights in demonstrating his love.Do not let hopelessness paralyze you!Continue to believe that God has a plan and destiny for this country. Continue to pray and intercede for God’s will to be done. He wants us to join him in his plan for every nation and this world. One person, praying with humility, can turn the heart of God and invite his deliverance. Will it be you?You will never know unless you try.
