  • So many times we get focused in prayer and forget the help that God has given us, which is his Holy Spirit.  This may be more true of conservative Christians.  The Holy Spirit was given to us to help us, and when we cry because no one joins together or few join together at church for prayer, it is probable that we have not asked God to send His Holy Spirit to help us.  That is a confession on my part--and through God's grace, I will be inviting the help of God's Holy Spirit in matters that I carry forward in intercession.

  • I can testify to the idea of the "satisfied customers" becoming missionaries of prayer.  That is what happened in my life.  As part of the worship team, we prayed before the weekend services together.  We were taught to wait on the Lord and let him direct our prayers rather than just jump in with what may have seemed like good things to pray for.  That's where God showed us that He does indeed speak to us.  We saw this because the things that came to our hearts to pray were confirmed by others who would pray them out or comment later that they had heard the same things we had prayed.  We saw the Holy Spirit directing the flow of our prayer times and some things we may have wondered why God would have us pray that way were revealed during the course of the service that day.  Those prayer times were the training ground that ultimately resulted in my stepping off the worship team to be a part of the brand new prayer ministry.

I am now one of many leaders in a thriving prayer ministry at our church.  My prayer now is that we wouldn't really need a "prayer ministry" but every ministry, small group and individual would understand and live the life of spirit led, worship based, dynamic corporate prayer.
