Reactions, is God's word in our Hearts

Take a minute and listen to the attached video--then consider the following reflection questions.

Reflections:

Why are reactions often emotional reactions?  What do emotional reactions that tell us about our ‘Self’ nature?

How does God react?  --perhaps our answer might be from what we sere taught about God.  –Take a moment and reflect on I John 4: 8 and reflect on how emotions motivated by love react, vs our ‘Self’ Nature.

Here is something to meditate on:  To know God’s Love is strong motivation to study His word.

  • Lewis, this is a bit off-topic, but I just had a situation in which I was simply AMAZED at how God's Word in my heart and in my prayers PROTECTED me from having an emotional reaction.  I hope it is okay to share even though it is a bit off-topic to the questions you have asked...

A couple of weeks ago, my 17 year old daughter went to Africa on a missions trip.  Last year was the very first time she went to Africa, and my intercessory prayers (last year) were EXTREMELY EMOTIONAL in nature.  I had trouble separating prayer from my mama heart for my daughter.  This year when she went, I prayed much more calmly and Scripturally.  This year, while she was in Africa, I prayed Scripture over her and her team more than I had ever "prayed" Scripture in my entire life.  As much as I could, I based my prayers on Scripture.  Several days into her trip, I received word that she was sick, and I sensed she was even sicker than what was written in the e-mail informing me.  I was faced with a choice.  I could either react emotionally, or I could kneel and calmly pray MORE SCRIPTURE.  I chose calmly praying the Scripture.  And I was AMAZED at how the Lord built up such SOLID, SOLID strength and trust as I prayed HIS WORD RATHER THAN MY EMOTIONS!  She is now back safe and sound, but I am SOOOO GRATEFUL that God deepened my intercessory skills while she was gone...all because I prayed His Word rather than my emotional reactions!

Thanks, Lewis, for posting this...and for letting me share about what God has so recently done in and for me!

    • Anne--

I really appreciate your response.  It is related to the question put forth in the discussion and you have shared freely how the Lord had worked with you, in an area that many do not talk about--the emotions and our responses in prayer.  I know it will help others in their prayer life.

      Thank you Anne
