The article on hindrances to corporate prayer that some of your gave me insight into a few months ago, was just posted live at prayerconnect.net.
While there are many hindrances, I discuss six primary ones.
1. No Personal Prayer Life
2. Poor Past Prayer Experiences
3. No Expectations
4. Fear of Complaints or Discomfort
5. Staying in Control
6. Church Is for Me

Jonathan--
There is another hindrance--Many of our seminaries do not emphasize prayer. A vast majority of seminaries have either no courses about prayer, or only one course, occasionally you find three prayer courses. There are some exceptions, but they are very few in number. SO----How is a student who may become a pastor to learn about prayer? Some seminaries use the excuse of integrating prayer into the curriculum. I saw the syllabus from a course where this was done, and about three lessons in a course were devoted to a book on prayer. That did not do justice to what the author of the book wanted to convey to others. --Now this lack of focus on prayer in our teaching brings me to how it affects the students in the seminaries. They not seeing an emphasis on prayer, simply do not emphasize prayer when they become the pastors of churches. That is a major hindrance to corporate prayer.
I personally have seen churches bathed in prayer, I have been in prayer meetings with 80-100 people out of a church with an attendance of 250-300 people.
Corporate prayer is so important today--that we probably should be praying that the Lord will move the hearts of pastors and their congregations' hearts to desire praying corporately to see people turn to the Lord Jesus Christ.
