Hi Everyone,

I've been asked to help develop/manage a website/blog that we hope will be a tool to connect people who have a heart to pray for our city. We will inform them of specific prayer needs as they arise; we'll post Scripture and Scripture-based prayers for the leaders of our metro-B'ham area (includes 7 counties, 92 cities); and we'll encourage people to comment with their own prayers. We also hope it will help give the various city-wide prayer ministries a connecting point so that we can work together more efficiently and effectively.

My question is this: Has anyone out there done something like this before for their city? If so, can you share any helpful tips or advice; do(s) and don't(s); etc? We would be most grateful for any input.

Thanks!

Jennifer

  • Hi Everyone! I just wanted to let you know that our blog has been up and running since April 22 of this year! We have prayed for a little over 30 cities, I believe, so far in the metro-B'ham area. We give some background info on the city, and usually have a passage of Scripture from which we base our prayers.

I would LOVE it if some of the intercessors here would take a few minutes to check it out and let me know what you think and we might improve it. And while you're there, why don't you leave a comment of prayer for one of the cities. :)

Thanks to those who offered the helpful advice and ideas! God bless!

    • The site looks nice ... please consider adding relevant new posts her as a way of cross-connecting!

  • Hi Jen:

I don't know if you are still working on this. But if you are, once you have your blog / website setup, go over to Facebook and other social networks and promote your blog there. Even set up a FB group to assist with making the website known. You may find it easier to connect with peope on FB than a tradiational blog, at least until you have some content on your website.

    • Thanks, Timothy. I am still working on it. It's taking longer than we anticipated to get things up and running. That's a great idea about using FB. It's such a good idea, in fact, that we're already doing it. : ) We thought that talking it up some before-hand might help more people connect with us when we finally get the blog/website launched.

      Thanks again!

    • Jennifer - are you up and running yet?

    • Not yet, Phil. It's taking a lot longer to get the website part up and running than we anticipated. We may go ahead and launch just the blog soon, though. I'll keep you posted.

  • Yes - please LMK when you are operative!

  • We are getting ready to hopefully launch this website/blog later this month. We hit an unexpected snag when we tried to change domain hosts, and it delayed us by about 2 months. We're calling it "City on its Knees". We would appreciate your prayers that the last details would fall into place, that God would raise up those He wants to use as bloggers on the site, and that it would be the tool that the Lord wants it to be. When we're up and running, I'll share the address and would greatly appreciate anyone who would to come by, check it out, and let me know what we could improve on.

    God bless!

  • Thank you for the feedback. I checked out the austinalive page, Christy, and it looks similar to what we're talking about doing, so it will be helpful to keep looking at it.

Phil, we talked about using Pray Network, but Kevin wants to use an "independent" domain. He thinks it will be easier to draw people that are specifically located in the metro-B'ham area - to better unite the prayer culture in our city.

But all this input was very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to respond. God bless!

    • Much success, Jennifer!

Let me know where you land ... and greetings to my friend Kevin,

      Phil
