Roots and Forgiveness

Have you found that some issues keep coming up even though you think you have cleared them?  Some weeds in my garden have deep roots, and do keep coming back, unless the whole root is removed.

Forgiveness can be a way to remove deep roots in our lives.  What could you share about forgiveness from your experience in clearing issues?

  • I’M GLAD YOU ASKED…
    Q. Rande, you say that we’re to pray for those who have done terrible things to us, or to those we love … I’m not sure I can do that.
    A. Well, first of all, the reason that I said that is because Jesus told us to do it.  He taught, “Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may become the children of your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:44-45)  The second reason that I said that is because  it is what Jesus did.  No one ever had more terrible things done to them than Jesus.
People told lies about Him, beat Him, whipped Him, spit on Him, made fun of Him,humiliated Him, and finally tortured Him.  And Jesus’ response … “Forgive them, Father!” (Luke 23:34)  The Apostle Paul commands us to pray, “Ask God to bless those who persecute you (or those you love … my addition) – yes, ask him to bless, not to curse.” (Romans 12:14)  So, there are the Scriptural mandates, and not to obey them is a sin.  Now, for the last part of your statement, “I’m not sure I can do that.”
Well, neither am I.  In fact, if I am totally honest, I’m not sure that I have ever prayed effectively or sincerely for those who have hurt me or my loved ones … in my own strength.  But, I have been able to with the help of The Holy Spirit.
And that would be my counsel to you.  Be honest with God.  Tell Him of your struggle, but that you want to be obedient to His commands and “Christlike” in your actions … and then let Him do the rest.  Jesus said, “Do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you.” (Luke 6:27-28)
    See you in Church …
    Blessings,
Pastor Rande Smith, COmmunity Church of Rolling Meadows, IL
  • Hi, I have found that to forgive others is the most powerful way for healing in my own life. It has taken away many painful memories  and set me free to love others more easily.
