Outside Prayer Ministries

I am a Senior Bowler in two leagues and have received permission from the alley to have a prayer meeting before each  bowling session in a separate room .  I have talked to many of the bowlers and they want to start the group next fall.  I am interested in other types of outside ministries that have been started and what are some of the experiences others have had both good and bad.

  • Edward,

I'd suggest making part of that prayer meeting a time of guided silent prayer (prayer by suggestion). I'd do that close to the beginning of the prayer time so folks who don't want to pray out loud get to participate right from the start.

I'd also teach the group conversational prayer (topical prayer) right from the start so that it never becomes a boring round robin situation.

If you're not familiar with these forms of group prayer; I suggest going to the following link and click on the headings for 'group prayer' and 'public prayer'.

  • Thanks Lowell, you have some good suggestions. I should add to my original message by saying that the main purpose of the prayer would be for the league and the meeting would only be about fifteen minutes long. I thought of handing out some prayer suggestions at the start but let anyone bring up a new request. The session will be open to anyone who wishes to participate with the hope that others who do not know the Lord will get curious and come. Once again, thanks---Ed

  • Sounds good Edward.

Try the guided silent prayer with the suggestions. It really does help folks that don't pray out loud.

I made mention of a 'link' in the other post and I don't see it now. I don't know if I forgot to put it in or if they don't allow links. The page I was linking to is 'Free help for prayer leaders' at www.leadingprayer.com

    Hope this helps,
