 A special message to our
Great Commission Coalition and Houston Prays friends

The Response USA:
1. what's happening
2. who's coming
3. why it's important
4. goals for the event
5. prayer targets

Dear Phil,

By now you've no doubt heard about The Response, a solemn assembly at Houston's Reliant Stadium on Saturday, August 6. The Governor of Texas, Rick Perry, has called for it. He's personally invited all 49 other governors to join him. This is unprecedented. But many have asked, "Is this some kind of political ploy?"
Here's what I know. Several of those planning The Response are personal friends. They've had lots of questions too. But, like me, their questions have been answered. I have confidence in their leadership and integrity. After initiating, Governor Perry submitted the program to them. Many from Houston Prays are engaged.

On a conference call with the governor and the program leaders the other day, three goals of the day were shared: 1. The name of Jesus only will be exalted; 2. People will leave with a desire to pray more; 3. Politicians will be glad they came. No stump speeches. No sermonizing. Just a day to call out to God, acknowledging our dependence on him and asking him to help us and heal our nation.

Will the Response will be everything I'd like it to be? I can't answer that. Will it stretch some of us out of our comfort zones? Probably. Do I think it's important for us to be there and to encourage others to join us? Absolutely. I've seen first hand what God will do when his people humble themselves before him in united prayer. That's why I'm writing you today.

You can hear from others at the link below. You'll also find a bunch of resources from bulletin inserts to hyperlinks. Take a few minutes to check it out. Then ask God what he would have you do.

           - One Church Responds -
This is a showing up time

Steve Riggle is pastor at Grace Community Church in Houston. We became friends 30 years ago in the San Francisco Bay Area. Steve moved to Houston to start Grace. God brought Mercy and I here a decade later and we reconnected with Steve and Becky.

I've learned something about Steve in those 30 years. He believes in prayer. His church has a culture of prayer. Steve told his congregation recently, "There are times when we need to show up and this is a showing up time." He was referring to The Response. They've set a goal - to mobilize 5,000 members of their church family to attend The Response. They're well on their way. 2,100 have signed up already.

How about you? Have you registered? Have you set a goal to mobilize
Relianta team to join you at The Response? Some churches and networks outside of Houston are planning caravans.

Reliant Stadium has 70,000 seats. Won't it be great if it isn't big enough! I've seen that happen overseas. Potential overflow venues are being secured. For others unable to come to Houston, The Response is                              planning Live Simulcast and Streaming. I hope you don't miss this.
