LUK 17:11-19
Jesus Heals Ten Men With Leprosy
11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy[b] met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”
14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.
15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.
17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”
Faith should follow with take action and and a grateful heart. We learn from above verses how those lepers got healed and what did they do next after they realised that they have cured. These 10 leper asking for healing from leprosy.
Have a pity on us. These words are these lepers said to Jesus. Have a pity on us or have a mercy on us are the words that we as a believer have rarely use in our pray to Jesus. We should aware that eventhough we have many years follow Jesus. This not make us free from sins. We just like a dust in front of His eyes. Only trough His mercies we consider deserve in front of Him. Have a mercy on us should we not forget in our pray to Jesus. As probably we have done any sins that we are not aware.
Let’s take a look what Jesus did after He hear from these 10 lepers. Jesus said “go to show yourselves to the priest !” For us maybe His command is a simple way to follow. He did not command to do a difficult way. But if we aware the context at that time, in Jews society, leprosy is sign of sin or dirty. So they need FAITH to follow His command. And the result is on thier way to the Prieset, they were cleansed. In our spiritual journey to follow Jesus, many of His command that we did not understand. We tend to rejected it. But if we obey, then there is a reward for us cause obeying Him. His plan is beyond our thinking, His way is above our way. His love to us is more deeper than the ocean. So just obey Him ! Cause He know the best for us.
When they were cleansed, only one go back to Jesus to give thanks to Jesus. This grateful atitude is the sign if we have faith on Him. As in verse ” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”, we can see Jesus show a grateful atitude is important. Nowdays “thank you” is a difficult word to say in our societies. Thank you as sign that we respect to other. To have a grateful heart means we admit that God rule upon us. Faith follow with a grateful heart as a package that we are the desciples of Jesus.
