JUST A THOUGHT....for today.

JUST A THOUGHT….for today….

Are we moving toward a time when MLK style “civil disobedience” will break out into the streets of Americans? I’ not talking about violence, crime, shootings, etc. The answer may be very hard to nail down, when citizens who believe in the Bible and the US Constitution are forced to break the principles of both. Having just celebrated his birthday last month, listen to the words of the late Dr. Martin Luther King on Civil Disobedience:

"You express a great deal of anxiety over our willingness to break laws…. One may well ask: 'How can you advocate breaking some laws and obeying others?' The answer lies in the fact that there are two types of laws: just and unjust. I would be the first to advocate obeying just laws. One has not only a legal but also a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws. I would agree with St. Augustine that "an unjust law is no law at all."

"Now, what is the difference between the two? How does one determine whether a law is just or unjust? A just law is a man made code that squares with the moral law or the law of God. An unjust law is a code that is out of harmony with the moral law. To put it in the terms of St. Thomas Aquinas: An unjust law is a human law that is not rooted in eternal law and natural law."

If America keeps going in the direction we have gone in the past seven years, we may see the kind of protests Dr. King initiated take the stage of our society again.  Let’s hope this next election stops the “slide toward Gomorrah”, and God gives us a leader who will call America back to Himself and the greatness we enjoyed when we were not ashamed to say, Merry CHRISTmas, Happy EASTER, and THANKSgiving. All these holidays connect America with our Jehovah God and our past Christian roots and foundation.
