1. Pray--For the children, for their biological families, for their foster parents, for Case workers, Counselors, and Judges. Pray for protection, for godly influences, for emotional, physical, & spiritual healing. Prayer can reach into places that you may never be able to go.
2. Reach out in kindness as the Lord leads. When I was in foster care, I made my profession of faith and an older woman in the church gave me a cross necklace and took me out for lunch.
3. Show up to show support at a school concert or sporting event.
4. Provide respite to a foster parent.
5. Participate in a mentoring program which matches you up with a kid who enjoys some things that you may enjoy.
6. Have lunch with one of them at their school (if they have an open campus).
7. Become a CASA volunteer (Court Appointed Special Advocate). These folks represent the child in court and make sure that the child's best interest are being considered.
8. Consider being a foster parent
9. Bring one of these kids to church with you and/or offer to disciple one.
10. Find kids who are "aging out" of the foster care system and see how you might support them as they move into adulthood and independent living. Many of them have no family support once they leave foster care. Imagine not having anyone to come home to for holidays or for support in general.
These kids can use help with applying to colleges and filling out FAFSA forms. They can use college kits such as: bedding, school supplies, toiletries, etc.
The possibilities are only limited by your imagination.
