When he saw the lost people he told his disciples to ask the Lord of the harvest to send workers into the harvest field because the harvest was plentiful and the workers are few.
Maybe I can't personally go into these nations and share the gospel message, but God can and I know that he will if we ask Him to.
One of my favorite scriptures to pray for the lost people in the world is taken from Romans 10:11-15 "As the scripture says, 'Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame. For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile - the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'
How then can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news."

Similarly, Peter speaks to the end times in 2 Peter 3 and encourages believers to "live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming." This is an astonishing statement - knowing that the very last event prior to Christ's return is the worldwide spread of the gospel, Peter tells us that we can actually influence that day (speed its coming). How? I'm convinced that we can speed the day of Christ's return by praying for the spread of the gospel to the entire world.
You're spot on concerning the need to pray for workers in the harvest field. My church believes strongly in this, and the pastors and the intercessors join in this prayer for the Missions Team to increase its members.
We have seen answers to our prayers for the younger ones {those in their 20's and 30's} volunteer to come in as full-time missionaries. They are trained and then sent out to various nations which my church has links with.
We recently started daily prayers for God's hand upon these missionaries and also for the harvest to be reaped in the nations they are sent to. Reports from them show that there are positive results, and we praise God for using us in His plan to save the 'lost' sheep.
