Forgiveness Service

I know of a church which is planning a ‘Forgiveness Service’.  They have put the following in the bulletin:

Paul writes in Ephesians 4:26-27 “do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil”.  In that spirit6, please use the next two weeks to reconcile one with another so we can meet together at 7PM on Monday, February 16, to forgive one another and to release that burden we are carrying so we can move forward as one body, serving God and reflecting His Love to the world around us.

This would be a good item for intercessors to consider carrying to the Lord.  It is in accordance with God’s word.   I would add, that no third party will be present.  Please pray that God’s Holy Spirit will be in full control the evening of the ‘Forgiveness Service’.

  • Please pray for this church--the Forgiveness service was put on hold, and now it does not appear that there will be one.  We had three elders.  One just resigned due to a sudden job change.  His resignation was announced this last Sunday.  Today, another elder resigned.  We have been without a pastor for 7-8 months and he led the pulpit committee.  On announcing a possible candidate very recently, some have criticized the candidate with out talking with the candidate.  This candidate definitely believes in prayer.  We are left with one elder, and a vote coming up about this candidate in just a few weeks.  --

Normally I do not share this much about the internal workings of a church--but I believe we have a God who can and will respond to people praying.  That is what intercessory work is about.  If God moves you to pray--please do--we need his wisdom and help in this matter. Thank you for considering to lift this matter to the Lord.

    • What happened here looks like an obvious thief / enemy temper tantrum, which got just what he wanted. No forgiveness service. Disintegration of leadership. Conflict. Disorganization. He stole, killed, and destroyed, and since no-one took authority to stop him, he got away with it. Is this your church, Lewis?

  • Since the Prayer Class was started and the church's Forgiveness Service was set--much has happened changing plans.  A water pipe burst--and repair is under way.  Sunday school classes have been restarted--but some are combined until the repairs are complete--the repairs were extensive.  The Prayer Class combined with another class and the subject was the beginning of the Prayer Class course work.

The Forgiveness service was cancelled once due to snow--and the 2nd time due to the water pipe.  A New date needs to be set, and the people need to be prepared for it.

Prayer can make a major difference--thanks to all of you who have been praying.

    • Thank you for the update.

  • For those who have been interecceing for the need that I have presented--here are a few thoughts that my guide you.

    1. One—seek the Lord to his new timing of the Forgiveness Service.
    2. 2nd—Involve our congregation by taking time in our Sunday Service before the forgiveness service to break into groups—seeking the Lord for His help to us in the upcoming Forgiveness Service.  This prayer time by the congregation may be very helpful for the upcoming forgiveness service.
    3. 3rd—In this Forgiveness Service—give opportunity to seek the Lord to help us turn from what has been causing issues to arise—and in that turning (II Chronicles 7:14)  seek Him (Jesus) first-(Matthew 6:33)

Also, consider the exhortation in Matthew 5:23-24 to go to another

The Forgiveness service has been cancelled twice--for reasons that are beyound the control of the church.  I does make one wonder if there is something trying to stop the forgiveness service all together.--One can only speculate on this--but the need to pray is definitely present.  I thank all who have prayed.  The
LOrd will undertake His plans and accopmplish His will because people prayed.

    Blessings.

    • Thank you for providing this information. Asking and trusting God to go before the service so that hearts will be fully prepared for and open to all that He has planned.

  • Over this weekend of Feb 21--a water pipe burst in the church building--causing damage.  The Trustee's have canceled all services at the church through Wednesday so the broken pipe can be repaired and damages also repaired.

--This affects the forgiveness service--and one would wonder what is happening--This is the 2nd time the service has had to be canceled-->but remember the Lord knows what is happening and is in control.  We need to be faithful and stand in the gap for the church.   God's word will prevail--II Chronicles 7:14.

Please pray that the service will be rescheduled, and that the Lord will be in control.  Also consider praying that God’s people will have some preparation for this service.

Blessings as you continue to pray.

    • Thanks for the update.

  • Was the Forgiveness Service held?

    • Vicki--I should have mentioned--due to extreme weather--the forgiveness service was reset to Feb 23.  Hopefully the weather will cooperate.  This is still winter--and though this area has not been hit like New England--our church leaders recognize the distance our membership comes from and has their safety in mind.--So this gives another week to keep this special service in  prayer.

I would encourage as we pray for the service to ask the Lord to also encourage the leaders and members to go to those who do not come--especially where there have been past issues.  The Lord Jesus encouraged that.

      Blessings as you pray.
