The D.C./Chicago Rooftop Encounters On Pentecost Sunday, May 20, Christians from over 25 cities around the world will be a part of the first ever global Multi-City Rooftop Encounter.  On that day, they will gather on rooftops to seek God for a fresh vision of His heart for their cities - to ask Him how they can Join Jesus in His Mission!  Just imagine...on that one day, Christians in London, Cape Town, Nairobi, Kampala, Chicago, Port Elizabeth and other cities will unite their voices in prayer, crying out to God for spiritual awakening to take place in their lives and their cities.  In the United States, two Rooftop Encounters will be taking place.  The first Encounter will be in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, May 16 at the new Museum of the Bible.  The second Encounter will be in Chicago on Sunday, May 20, at the Willis (Sears) Tower.   It is not a coincidence that God arranged for the inaugural Multi-City Rooftop Encounter to take place in our nation’s capital—the very place where decisions are made daily that impact the nations. While everyone cannot attend these events in person, everyone can be a part of this historic global prayer gathering.  First, we need people to pray!  Pray for God to show His glory among the nations.  Pray for a great spiritual awakening to take place among His people and in the cities where Rooftop Encounters will be occurring.  Pray for God to give us a fresh vision of His heart for Washington D.C. and Chicago as we pray over these two pivotal cities in our nation. Prayer Points Thank you for praying for us!  Please pray for the following... On March 22-23, we will be having our Rooftop International Council Meeting in Raleigh NC.  We will also be hosting a breakfast for area pastors on March 23.  Pray for safe travel for those who serve on the Council and a productive meeting with the area pastors. On March 25, I will be with Judson Baptist Church in Fayetteville, NC.  I will be preaching during the morning service and leading a Rooftop Encounter on Sunday afternoon. My trip to Tucson AZ April 6 -12 to meet with area pastors and Arizona Baptist leadership. The Rooftop Perspective What does it look like to "Join Jesus in His Mission"?  The answer to that question can be found in the story of Karen Watson.  Karen was a Southern Baptist missionary to Iraq and was killed by unknown assailants on March 15, 2004.  Before she left for the mission field, she wrote a letter to her pastors and gave it to them in an envelope that said "Open in case of death." As I read the letter, I was both convicted and inspired for she exemplified what it looked like to live a life radically devoted to Jesus; a life "Joining Jesus in His Mission".  It said in part: Dear Pastor Phil and Pastor Roger,  You should only be opening this in the event of death. When God calls there are no regrets.  I tried to share my heart with you as much as possible, my heart for the nations.  I wasn't called to a place; I was called to Him.  To obey was my objective, to suffer was expected. His glory my reward... The missionary heart: Cares more than some think is wise Risks more than some think is safe Dreams more than some think is practical Expects more than some think is possible  I was called not to comfort or to success but to obedience...There is no Joy outside of knowing Jesus and serving Him.  I love you two and my church family. In His care, Salaam, Karen "Joining Jesus in His Mission" is more than an inspiring slogan.  It is a life calling.  It is a calling to obedience...to sacrifice...to live for His glory alone for that is our true reward. The Rooftop City Encounter As we move toward the Global Rooftop Encounter in 2020, we will be having Rooftop Encounters in multiple major cities globally in 2018 and 2019.  The two U.S. cities in 2018 are Washington D.C. and Chicago.  We are now preparing to return to Washington, D.C. on September 9-14 and to Chicago September 16-22.  I will be meeting with pastors and Christian leaders in both cities as we prepare for the 2018 Rooftop Encounters. The Rooftop Perspective Our passion at The Rooftop is to see a great spiritual awakening take place in our nation and across the globe resulting in millions coming into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  However, we know that before that will happen, a great spiritual awakening must take place in the Church.   Over the years, we have approached the decline in people coming to know Christ by developing more programs and materials focused on sharing the Gospel with others.  In doing so, we have bypassed the real issue as to why Christians never share their faith - their heart is out of step with God's heart.  We don't need any more programs or materials...we need a heart transformation.  We need to be awakened to God's heart just as Peter was in Acts 10.  We need fresh eyes to see ourselves and others as God does. We need to be awakened to the attitudes of the heart that keep us from Joining Jesus in His Mission, our pride, our prejudices, and our preferences.  We need to be awakened to God's passionate love for those around us who desperately need Jesus.  We need an awakening that drives us to our knees in repentance and drives us beyond the walls to engage a lost world with the Gospel. It is our heart-cry to see this great spiritual awakening in the Church and our culture become a reality that drives us as a ministry.  It is why I will travel to D.C. and Chicago this month to cast the vision for City-wide Rooftop Prayer Encounters.  It is why I call pastors about having us come to their churches and share the message of awakening found in Acts 10.  In Ephesians 5:16, Paul wrote, "Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days."   It is my desire to do just that; to make the most of every opportunity He gives me. To pursue His every prompting of my heart.  To not slow up or give up until I am called up or caught up!  Is that your desire?

Trans World Radio Update On April 3, 2017, The Rooftop began airing a weekly program called The Rooftop Moment on TWR360,   Each Monday, a new teaching is released designed to encourage and equip believers to 'Join Jesus in His Mission'.  On August 28-30, I had the opportunity to spend three days at the Trans World Radio headquarters in Cary, NC with many of those who broadcast on TWR via radio and the TWR360 platform. For over 60 years, TWR has broadcast the Gospel around the world.  Today, they broadcast biblical teachings to over 190 countries in over 230 languages.  The Rooftop Moment can be heard via their internet platform at www.twr360.org.  I encourage you to check out this amazing resource via the internet or the TWR360 app.  Through your faithful support of The Rooftop, this ministry is able to impact people in over 190 countries with the Gospel!   We have recently updated our website, www.therooftop.org.  Please take time to visit our site, discover the vision God has given us and meet our National Pioneers!
