Scripture: Psalm 18:35
“You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your right hand has held me up, Your gentleness has made me great” NKJV
Just before World War II Dawson Trotman began witnessing to students in Southern, California. That spread too many sailors stationed throughout California. In 1943 Trotman formed an organization known as the Navigators. By the end of the Second World War thousands of men and women on ships and military bases were experiencing the spiritual principles taught by Dawson Trotman.
The Navigator organization has grown steadily over the years reaching out to new believers. One aspect of the navigators Ministry is called “The Prayer Hand.”
Using your right hand (or left if you desire) starting with your thumb follow along:
THUMB --- PRAISE: Praise God for His creation --- Psalm 146:1-2
INDEX FINGER --- THANKSGIVING: Thank God for all HE has done: Eph 5:20
LONGEST FINGER – INTERCESSION: Pray for others: Ephesians 6:18-19
RING FINGER – PETITION: Ask God to meet my needs: 1 Samuel 1:27
LITTLE FINGER – CONFESSION: Confess my sins to HIM: 1 John 1:9
Another approach to prayer that might be helpful:
Set a time each day and hold to it.
Start with 10 minutes a day
3 minutes reading the Bible
3 minutes thanking God for all HE has done for you
3 minutes praying for others
1 minute of requests
Expand as you go.
Whether you use your right or left hand to pray --- or both --- or use a timer to meet prayer goals --- make time to pray --- as the old Nike ad states, “Just Do It!” You’ll be glad you did.
Prayer: Father help me be reliable and consistent in my prayer time with YOU. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
