Recovering child soldiers, orphans, victims of amputation, mutilation, and rape, the people of Sierra Leone have known greater suffering than almost any nation in the world. Eleven years of military coups and guerrilla wars claimed over 100,000 lives, maimed thousands, and left the rest of the population deeply scarred.
Although democracy has developed some roots since 2002 and there is limited stability, Sierra Leone still remains among the top ten poorest nations in the world, with an average life expectancy of 47 years. Disease is widespread, and babies must fight just to survive their first few months.
To further the darkness, this nation finds itself bound by secret societies and the occult to the point that these powers of darkness have even entered the Church.
A nation unbelievably rich in natural resources finds itself barely surviving and facing a problem too big for any humanitarian organization or NGO. Christian missionaries and relief organizations are very present in this nation, trying to bring both physical and spiritual healing. The only answer lies in Jesus Christ. He has brought peace to this nation, and now we cry out for His healing and restoration.
