Dear Phil,
I'm writing to invite you to stand with countless others from the worldwide Prayer Movement and the Christian Church to pray for the people and the nation of Japan - but also, to ask you to prayerfully consider pledging the support and participation of your church, ministry or organisation in this unique initiative.
This week and for the next month, all the eyes of the world are on Japan!
The postponed 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games are taking place in and around Tokyo amidst mixed reception from locals, due to their concern that a third wave of covid infections could escalate further. The opening ceremony this Friday takes place behind closed doors. Spectators will not be present for many of the games.
With less than one per cent of its population of 126 million attending church, the Japanese are the world’s second largest un-reached people group. Most people in Japan have not been to church, read the Bible or know any Christians.
I've met with a number of representatives of the Japanese Church, who are sensing that this is a significant time for Japan. This is perhaps a Kairos moment for this nation as they call the Church nationally and internationally to repent in the spirit of 1 Chron 7:14 and contend for the spiritual transformation of Japan.
IPC's Leadership Team has come alongside the Japan Evangelical Missionary Association and Japan International Sports Partnership's 'Japan1Million' project - which aims to invite the global church to devote a million hours of prayer for their nation during the Olympics.
Their original vision was to reach a million Japanese people with the Gospel during the games, but this changed dramatically due to the pandemic, to an apt one of seeking a million hours of prayer for Japan.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if the global Church, prayer movements and Christian ministries could unite in this demonstration of support and encouragement for our dear friends in the Japanese Church at this significant time?!
Will you commit to pray personally for Japan - for an hour over this next month?
Could your ministry, church or organisation also commit to pray with us for the spiritual transformation of Japan during this next month?
This is how you can participate...
1. Seek the Lord for the number of hours that you and / or your organisation can devote to praying for Japan over the next month. Spread across a month, it would be just a few minutes a day! A church or organisation could divide the time over several meetings.
2. If you are pledging hours just for you, go straight to this Web Page.
If you are able to pledge hours on behalf of your organisation, go to this website page and let us know how many hours you are committing, how many people you represent, and which nations they are from? (We will add your pledge to the online system)
Example of Hours Calculation - if you can pray for half an hour on a zoom call with 1,000 people, this adds up to 500 hours. They might be from USA and France.
3. Share these prayer guides, resources, videos and social media posts with your community, encouraging them to use them and pass them on to their other networks. There will be daily prayer points emailed out to registrants during the games.
Whether you are able to pledge 5 hours, 5,000 hours or many more, each hour counts and each hour is hugely valued as a representation of our united support from across the nations, for Japan to be saved!
If you have any questions, please do be in touch with me directly, or to Andy Page who heads up our comms team - editor@ipcprayer.org
These are indeed unprecedented times for all of us. I appreciate that there are many calls on your time and resources, and thank you for considering this invitation.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Glory to the Lamb!
