  • There's an old hymn, written by Thomas Chisholm, I sing as part of my time spent with God--"Oh to be like thee, blessed Redeemer, this is my constant longing and prayer." In studying ways to be more like Christ, I found myself motivated to earnest, fervent prayer. Jesus found time to be alone for prayer, He prayed for His family and friends, for those who did not believe He was the Son of God. Jesus wept as He prayed over Jerusalem and another time He prayed so fervently that sweat drops of blood formed from his brow. It's a big motivator if you truly desire to be like Jesus.
    • Great answer Pamela.

The apostle Paul expressed it this way, " For my determined purpose is that I may know Him..." Philippians 3:10. Knowing Him should be the great spiritual goal of every believer, then the disciplines of prayer, worship, Bible study, etc. make sense. This understanding motivated me to a much deeper and intimate relationship with Jesus e.g. the disciplines are not the end, rather, they are the means to the end...knowing Him.

      Thanks for your insight.
