Dear Phil,

Hard to believe that the summer is on us and 2017 is almost half over! But that's where we are. Over the summer, with all that is going on and a change in schedule, it is easy to slack off in our prayer life. We encourage you to use this time to either strengthen your ability or learn to pray the Scriptures. Praying God's Word back to Him is easily the most powerful method of prayer we have in our arsenal. This issue of "Connected" will give you some insight and help in that practice.

27 Reasons to Pray the Word

Kim ButtsBy Kim Butts
Praying Scripture is powerful and effective because:
1. Jesus is the Word.(John 1:1-2, 14)
2. It is the example of Jesus. (Matthew 4:1-11)
3. It is the example of the early Church.(Book of Acts; Acts 4:23-31)

Why Should We Pray the Word?
Tiece King shares in a short video, what praying the Word has meant to her. Ty is the author of a Pray the Word series of books (See Below).

    Dear Phil,

Hard to believe the summer is almost over! Soon September start-ups will be happening. Do you have the resources you need? Let me highlight three things in this issue that will help you encourage prayer in your church:

    1. Check out "Roadmap to a Praying Church." This is a new focus of ministry for Harvest and the CPLN that seeks in a more personal and deliberate way to help churches become houses of prayer.

    2. With the election soon upon us, we encourage your church to pray through the 40-day prayer initiative Desperate for Change, Sept 30 - Nov 8. In an effort to make it accessible to all churches, we have reduced the price 60%!

    3. If you live in the Midwest or East, we encourage you to consider attending our annual Midwest Prayer Conference, Oct 21-22 in Columbus, Ohio.

This prayer guide is intended for any church that wants to become fully devoted to prayer. The Church that Jesus planted in Jerusalem was "devoted to prayer" (Acts 1:14, 2:42, and 6:4). That is what He intends for every church today.

At their April men's breakfast, Pastor Rich shared on the importance of men praying and then asked his men to commit to doing something every Sunday morning, five minutes ahead of the worship service.

    Dear Phil,

It is hard to believe that we are less than six weeks away from the U.S. elections. Probably due to the choices we have, there is a growing groundswell of prayer for the nation. . . and I believe it will continue to rise even after the elections. As people's uncertainly and desperation increases, prayer will increase as well.

0b1bc2fa-09df-462a-96c7-077f202e1047.jpgAs a prayer leader, you will want to be ready for this increase. Should special prayer meetings be called? Can you put good resources in the hands of those from your church or prayer group? We are excited to offer a new online prayer guide, "Prayers for First Responders," for you to use. You can currently copy it or share it online, but in a few months we will also have a nicely designed version for sale in packs of 50.

We are also excited to finally launch my new book, Restored Power. More information is in this newsletter, including a link to read a chapter and a link for purchase information. This is an excellent resource for prayer leaders, pastors and church elders or deacons.

Blessings on you as you continue being a catalyst for prayer!

Most churches struggle with corporate prayer. Pastors and prayer leaders teach and exhort and encourage believers to pray; however, when a prayer meeting or gathering is called for, very few people show up to "lift their voices together in prayer." Here are some practical suggestions for increasing attendance and reducing the fear factor that prevents participation in corporate prayer:

    Dear Phil,

Thanks for your work in trying to grow prayer in your church. We are delighted to be able to walk this journey with you. Please let us know how we can help!
This issue of "Prayer Leader OnLine" offers some help and encouragement in an area of prayer that is largely neglected in many churches today--praying for missions and missionaries.

    0b1bc2fa-09df-462a-96c7-077f202e1047.jpgBy Jon Graf

As a kid, I dreamed of playing left field for the Boston Red Sox. Hall of Fame player Carl Yastrzemski (Sox's left fielder from 1961-1983) was my hero. But alas, my dream never got off the ground--the organized Little League teams in my neighborhood played on Wednesday nights.

As a pastor's kid I had to be somewhere else on Wednesday nights--prayer meeting. While I wasn't always excited to be there, I do remember times when missionaries--often ones who had visited our church on tour--were lifted up in prayer. There always seemed to be a little more excitement, a little more passion when we were praying for missionaries.

Resources to Help Encourage Missions Prayer
To help encourage and equip you or your people to pray more on target and with more passion for missions, here are two resource suggestions:

83131d62-433e-4efa-8b2f-51b83127b584.jpgPrayer Connect -- Missions Pack. This is a 2-issue set of past Prayer Connect magazines that focus on missions. "As the Waters" and "Ask for the Nations" will powerfully challenge you that prayer for missions is essential for completing the Great Commission. Both issues have theme-related Bible studies, making these excellent for small groups or a Sunday School class.
