Thomas More Society Gets Preliminary Injunction to Allow Prayer at Abortion Clinic

City of Jacksonville, North Carolina Allows Demonstration to Resume

RALEIGH, North Carolina, Nov. 21, 2011 /Christian Newswire/ -- Today, attorneys for the city of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and the Thomas More Society agreed to the entry of apreliminary injunction that will allow prayer and demonstration to resume at the entrance to the city's lone abortion clinic. The agreement, which will be in effect until the city amends its ordinances, was reached on the eve of a hearing on the matter before U.S. District Judge Terance W. Boyle. Attorneys for the city and the Thomas More Society have pledged to collaboratively work towards an amicable resolution to the lawsuit.

"We are pleased the city of Jacksonville has agreed to allow the demonstrators to continue their ministry during the lawsuit. This is a big victory for the First Amendment rights of pro-life people everywhere," said Peter Breen executive director and legal counsel for the Thomas More Society. "We are hopeful for a successful resolution of this lawsuit that will protect First Amendment rights for the long term."

The dispute arose when lead plaintiff, Dr. Bartolo Spano, along with other local residents were forbidden from praying and picketing outside the front entrance of the Crist Clinic for Women, a Jacksonville abortion facility. The Thomas More Society's suit argues that the First Amendment protects these pro-life advocates' right to peacefully protest outside the Clinic. According to the suit, city authorities had denied the plaintiffs a permit to demonstrate, citing "public safety concerns," including that vehicles may leave the roadway and strike the demonstrators. This city has conceded that its Parade and Public Assembly Ordinance will need to be amended.

The injunction is available here

  • Hostile Abortion Advocates Disrupt Prayer Service

WASHINGTON, Jan. 23, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- A peaceful religious tradition was disrupted today as the pro-abortion version of Occupy Washington attempted to surround and overwhelm a group of prayerful pro-life advocates in front of the Supreme Court.

For the last nine years, CEC For Life has sponsored a prayer vigil for the preborn on the morning of the March for Life. Opposition from pro-abortion advocates is always expected, but often minimal. This year, however, CEC For Life found themselves quickly surrounded by a much larger and far more hostile group than usual.

As those leading the prayer vigil began to invite pro-life advocates to join in worship, those with the pro-abortion opposition positioned themselves inches away from the musicians, chanting, screaming, and dragging a ten-foot banner between the team and those trying to pray and worship.

One member of the pro-abortion force actually spent an extended amount of time screaming into the face of an adopted child whose sign read: "I'm glad I was adopted and not murdered."

Despite the obnoxious and aggressive activity of these abortion advocates, members of CEC For Life continued to pray aloud and worship in unity. Many of the pro-life youth attempted to engage the opponents in productive dialogue, but few would stop yelling long enough to speak with these courageous young people.

As the battle between the culture of life and the culture of death enters its fortieth year, the contrast between good and evil becomes more and more clear, and Christendom, itself, continues to develop a definitive line of demarcation between the darkness that accompanies death and the light of Christ that shines when we preach the Gospel.

  • Faith and Pro-Life Organizations to 'Encircle' the Supreme Court in Prayer on the Eve of Historic Obamacare Arguments March 26-28

WASHINGTON, Feb. 23, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- The groups will also lay 3,300 flowers around the court as a "prophetic witness" to the Justices, reminding them of the 3,300 children who die every day from abortion.

The prayer vigil and laying flowers around the Supreme Court will take place on Sunday, March 25, at 2:00-4:00 P.M.

There will also be prayer vigils at the Supreme Court beginning at 8:00 A.M. from March 26-28 during the oral arguments.

The name of the project is called "Justice at the Court."

Supreme Court officials expect the Obamacare case to be the biggest one at the Court since Bush v. Gore in 2000.

If the President's health care legislation is declared unconstitutional, it would end taxpayer subsidized abortions and unjust and immoral mandates forcing religious institutions to cover abortion-inducing drugs and sterilization in their health coverage for employees.

    Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition and one of the organizers of "Justice at the Court", states;

"We are calling people from all America to come to Supreme Court and 'encircle it with prayer' from March 25-28 as we cry out to God for justice, human rights and religious freedom.

"Sadly, the President's Health Care legislation crushes religious freedom and liberty with unjust mandates on faith institutions and forces taxpayers to pay for abortions.

"We will be praying that Obamacare is declared unconstitutional so Congress can put forward health care legislation that will respect religious freedom, protect human life and honor the principles of our Constitution.

"When Roe v. Wade was decided, the Christian community was detached and uninvolved. We want to make sure that is not the case this time as we challenge people of faith to publicly pray and speak out with boldness and passion."

  • Pray for 39 Women Walking 'Back to Life.' -- 'Love is the Key,' Says Dr. Alveda King

HOUSTON, March 20, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- On March 17, 2012, thirty nine beautiful, brave, and sometimes broken women converged in Houston, Texas. They came from all walks of life to walk together "Back to Life" for twenty one days. Inspired by the convener of the walk, Laura Allred, founder ofStandard Bearers International and Captured Ministries, they are carrying a mandate to encourage their generation to a higher standard.

Laura is strengthened by her husband Gabriel Allred, who is the worship leader at Christ for the Nations Institute in Dallas, Texas. Together, the two are powerful ministers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They are grateful to God for His stirring in the hearts of the women who are banded together to walk "Back to Life."

Each young woman, representing one year of the thirty-nine years of legalized abortion in America -- are now walking the nearly 250 miles of open road for a 21-day trek from the nation's largest Planned Parenthood center, located in Houston, Texas, to the courthouse in Dallas where Roe v Wade was born.

Dr. Alveda King, Director of African American Outreach for Priests for Life, and niece of Dr. Martin Luther, King, Jr. was "blessed to be there to pray with the women and see them off on their journey." King was joined by other "veteran prolife warriors" including local pastors and leaders, and national figures Attorney Allan and Susan Parker of The Justice Foundation, Lou and Therese Engle of THE CALL, and Rev. Arnold Culbreath of Protecting Black Life.

Reading from the book of 1Corinthians 13:8, Alveda told the women, some of whom had just shared their unique and compelling pro-life testimonies while standing in front of America's largest Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Houston: "As you walk back to life, let love be the key to march you to victory. Love never fails."

The walk will culminate on April 6, 2012 on the courthouse steps in Dallas, TX. The women will be met by prayer warriors and pro-life supporters from all over the country. That same day, Lou Engle will lead THE ESTHER CALL, a prayer movement calling women to repent for abortion and pray for healing.

  • TheCall to Host Massive First-Ever All-Women Prayer Rally on Abortion Crisis

Thousands to Gather in Dallas for TheEstherCall,

Also Welcoming Women on 250-Mile Prayer Walk to Where Roe v. Wade Began 39 Years Ago

DALLAS, March 22, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- For the first time ever, TheCall, an organization convening hundreds of thousands for assemblies of prayer, will host the TheEstherCall, a national all women's pro-life event, in Dallas, from April 5-6. Bringing attention to the more than 54.5 million American babies aborted since Roe v. Wade, the two-day event will amass women for a giant prayer meeting, asking God to heal past wounds and empower American women in a pivotal election year.

Kicking-off Thursday, April 5, women will hear from TheCall's Co-Founder Lou Engle and women leaders on the Biblical figure Esther and the dramatic role she played in saving a nation. "Using Esther's example, women will be encouraged to pray for the grace and strength to speak to the issue of life, and to ask for anointing and authority as they stand for justice," says Engle.

According to Gallup, the majority of Americans (51 percent) believe abortion is morally wrong. The rally not only takes place in an election year but leads up to U.S. Supreme Court hearings on the constitutionality of President Obama's health care reform, including the argument on full contraceptive insurance coverage allowing abortions beginning at conception.

"The time is now for mothers, daughters, sisters and grandmothers -- the Esthers of today -- to come together to weep over this national wound and to position our hearts to be healed so that revival will come to America," says Tracy Eckert, director of TheEstherCall.

On Good Friday, April 6, TheEstherCall, pro-life leaders, pastors and supporters will gather in front of the Earle Cabell Federal Courthouse, the birthplace of Roe v. Wade, for a giant communion event also welcoming 39 young women marching from Houston to Dallas on a symbolic prayer journey depicting America's tragic path of abortion. These walkers, organized by the Back to Life Movement (www.backtolifemovement.com), and representing the 39 years of legalized abortion, will have traveled more than 250 miles to where it all began.

Rallying in support of life, women will take part in prayer and communion, standing in the gap for our nation and welcoming the women walkers seeking to end the devastation caused by abortion.

Event registration is free but required for this powerful two-day event.

  • Planned Parenthood Launches Pro-Abortion Prayer Campaign

Pray for abortions? Six Rivers Planned Parenthood of Eureka, Calif., has launched a campaign called the 40 Days of Prayer: Supporting Women Everywhere.

The campaign lists 40 different prayers for those committing abortions: the mothers, the escorts, the abortionists, and everyone involved except the unborn children.

The prayer event is supported by the Clergy for Choice, who characterize themselves as “religious leaders who value all human life.” In truth, the purported “clergy” only value life once it reaches a certain age and actively seek to destroy the lives of defenseless preborn children, according to Liberty Counsel.

As Liberty Counsel sees it, this is a concerted effort to dehumanize children based on their age and is similar to a tactic once used in Nazi Germany toward the Jews and other non-Arians: first ostracize them from the rest of society, and then annihilate them.

Planned Parenthood’s attempts to develop a “spiritual” aspect to the pro-abortion argument can seem comparable to the religious leaders in Germany who supported Adolf Hitler and the Nazis. It was wrong then and it is wrong now, Liberty says.

“Planned Parenthood’s ‘prayer’ campaign is offensive,” says Mathew Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel. “As much as they might not like the comparison, Planned Parenthood today is no different than the eugenics promoted by its founder Margaret Sanger who advocated the elimination of ‘undesirables,’ just like the most famous eugenicist, Adolf Hitler.”

Day 35 of the prayer campaign says, “Today we pray for girls everywhere, that they may have every opportunity for education, sport, health, art and vocation.” This prayer excludes girls who are in utero, Liberty asserts, and offensively insinuates that mothers are incapable of becoming educated, enjoying art, being healthy or holding a job.

Liberty concludes that Planned Parenthood’s prayer crusade is an attempt to mock and marginalize the highly effective “40 Days for Life,” which has unified half a million voices for the cause and saved at least 5,838 lives.

As a direct result of this prayer event, 22 abortion clinics have closed and 69 doctors have stopped performing abortion. Vision America has another positive prayer and fasting event called “40 Days to Save America,” which encourages pastors, priests, and rabbis to pray for God to intervene and save our nation.

  • Planned Parenthood has released a pro-abortion prayer guide, urging their anti-life followers to pray for more abortions and calling it "sacred care."

The abortion industry truly does worship at the altar of abortion.

  • A National Minute of Prayer to End Abortion?

ELKTON, MD, April 30, 2012 /Christian Newswire/ -- Since the reprinted WWII-era book "The Big Ben Minute" was released in March, the publisher, Saddle Mountain Communications, has received media inquiries about the National Minute of Prayer movement.

What's the bottom line ... what's the angle? Is this about praying to end abortion? The war on terror? The upcoming election?

"The answer is YES," says Brad Fenichel, spokesman for MinuteOfPrayer.org. "And a thousand-thousand other things for which Americans are sensing the call to urgent, fervent, concerted prayer.

"We're not seeking to project our own prayer agenda on the Church," Fenichel says. "The point is that we each pray from the unique angle that God has burdened his or her heart. And as we pray in humility and repentance, at the 9:00 p.m. minute, that's when Heaven touches Earth and God will gloriously respond to our united supplication.

"But abortion -- indeed, of all America's transgressions that pierce the heart of God, our open season on babies is surely the tip of the blade. And naturally, those who are on the front lines of the battle for life will use the Minute of Prayer as an appeal to end abortion. That's as it should be."

In his preface to the republished book, Fenichel quotes a high Nazi official under post-war interrogation: "During the war, you had a secret weapon for which we could find no counter-measure . . . but it was very powerful. . . . 'the Silent Minute.'"

As Americans prepare to observe the May 3 National Day of Prayer, Fenichel challenges us to "reach into the arsenal of history and discover the weapon that defeated Hitler -- united prayer. Let the National Day of Prayer be our opening volley, followed by daily, concerted appeal to Heaven."

"The Big Ben Minute" is available on Amazon.com. For information, see:www.MinuteOfPrayer.org/p/big-ben-minute.html

To call attention to the 9:00 Minute of Prayer, Brad Fenichel's recent book "When We Pipe, God Shall Dance" will be the subject of a giveaway on the National Day of Prayer. The Kindle e-book version (normally $9.99) will be free of charge to the first 900 people who download it from Amazon.com on May 3.

  • Announcing the National Prayer Service for 40th Commemoration of Roe v. Wade

WASHINGTON, Jan. 3, 2013 /Christian Newswire/ -- The month of January marks 40 years since the Roe vs. Wade decision, and the national prayer service to mark the occasion has been announced. The National Memorial for the Pre-Born and Their Mothers and Fathers promises to be the largest interdenominational prayer service being held in conjunction with this commemoration.

A larger venue was chosen this year to accommodate what is anticipated will be the biggest turnout ever for the service.

"This prayer service always re-energize and re-focuses our pro-life movement," said Father Frank Pavone, president of the National Pro-Life Religious Council, which is organizing the event along with Priests for Life, the National Pro-Life Center on Capitol Hill, and Faith and Action. Fr. Pavone will deliver the sermon at the service.

The National Memorial will take place from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 25, at Constitution Hall, 1776 D St., NW (18th and D St.). This is the same day as this year's March for Life, which will begin a few hours after the service.

"After 40 years of legal abortion, and the misery it has brought to untold millions of American women, men and families, we want to have one of the largest expressions ever of communal repentance and fervent intercession for an end to abortion in our nation," said Father Pavone. "Everyone in D.C. for the March should make an effort to attend this service."

A host committee of key religious leaders has been assembled, and more information about the service can be found at NationalPrayerService.com
