“I pray that you may be active in sharing your faith, so that you will have a full understanding of every good thing we have in Christ.” (Philemon 1:6)
In the book of Philemon, Paul says to actively share your faith.
You want to reach your neighbors for Christ, but you don’t know how. When you try to talk about God, your mouth fills with sand, your mind locks up. Why in the world are you a Christian? And why would your neighbor want to become one, too? You haven’t a clue. But through prayer, God can answer all your questions about ministering to your neighbor:
Who: As you pray for opportunities, God will highlight specific people he wants to draw to himself. These are your neighbors. Where: Prayer is where you gain the authority and divine affection to minister to them. When: Prayer prepares you for opportunities to minister, so you’ll know when to walk through doors that God opens.
Why: Prayer is why you can reach your neighbor. You love your neighbor because God first loved you. How: Prayer empowers you with the tools of heaven, emboldens you with courage, and fills you with wisdom. As you can see, your prayer life is your greatest means of changing the world for Christ.
Let’s pray: “God, thank you for giving me all I need to minister to my neighbors. Open my eyes to their needs, open my heart to receive them, and open my prayer life for them.”
