December 2011 Newsletter Dear HPN members,     This is our FAVORITE season of the year. It's CHRISTMAS!!!! This month, let’s focus on JESUS in our thoughts, our conversations and our decisions. Let’s take time to tell someone about Jesus who has never heard the Good News before!        SUMMARY: • HPN has so much to be thankful for this year • Praise God for all of the answered prayers we’ve seen this year in Hollywood • Pray for the people nominating this year’s films, that they may have wisdom • HPN needs more intercessors • Pray for the Jewish people this Hanukkah, which begins Dec. 20th • Pray for the family and friends of music executive John Atterberry • Pray that the Christians in Hollywood will be generous givers this Christmas • Pray for six new Christian TV writers who will be chosen for The Poiema Project • Pray for the New Christian Women in Media / LA! Group • Pray for the people involved in the films coming out this Christmas • In the Spirit of giving, we would love to invite you to our 2012 HPN Challenge!   PRAISES: • HPN has so much to be thankful for this year: We praise God for all of you - our faithful pray-ers, our generous donors, our wonderful Local Chapter Directors, our awesome volunteers, our growing Christian community here in Hollywood, and the Hollywood Presbyterian Church, who gives us our home. Most of all, we Praise God for allowing us to mobilize people to pray for Hollywood for the past 10 years!   • Praise God for all of the answered prayers we’ve seen this year in Hollywood. We hosted 75 national prayer leaders who caught the vision of praying for Hollywood as the world’s most influential mission field, we prayed with the largest gathering ever of Christians in Hollywood on the National Day of Prayer, we had the first ever praying meeting for professional young people in a new 24/7 Hollywood Prayer Room just down the street from HPN. We also had the first ever Hollywood ministries collaborative Friend/Fun raiser that was a huge success, we prayed for more professionals one-on-one than ever before, we started regular prayer walks around Hollywood, along with our studio prayer walks. To continue on we’ve seen more entertainment professionals hungry for prayer and we walked along side an entire Muslim entertainment family who have become Christians. As you see in this wonderfully long look back, this has been an awesome year!   UPDATES: • This is still the season for nominations to start coming in for the upcoming Academy Awards. Please pray for wisdom and discernment on the part of anyone who nominates films, actors, directors, writers, composers, technical people and other creative jobs in feature films, for they are impacting global culture. For some insight into American Media’s part in shaping Global Culture click HERE.   • HPN NEEDS MORE INTERCESSORS. Would you give an industry professional a Christmas gift by signing up to pray for them this year? We have incredible Christians working in Hollywood who have asked for an HPN intercessor to pray for them and we've run out!!!! We would so love for you to give us your prayers as a gift to all of us this Christmas. Just email [e-mail] and she'll send you an application and a big THANKS! (HPN currently has almost 1,400 matched prayer partners!)     REQUESTS: • This year Hanukkah begins on Tuesday, December 20th at sundown and lasts eight days. On Christmas day the Jews and the Gentiles will all be celebrating our holidays together. Please pray for the Jewish people in Hollywood who have not yet found their Messiah. May they experience Jesus on December 25th, right in the middle of Hanukkah!   • There was a random shooting in Hollywood this past week and successful music executive John Atterberry, 40, was sitting in his car at Sunset and Vine when the gunman began opening fire on passing automobiles. John was shot in the face and neck and died two days later. Please pray for John’s family and friends who are going through a terrible time of shock and anger at this 26 year old gunman, who was killed by police at the scene of the crime.   • Please pray that the Christians in Hollywood will be generous givers to our community this Christmas, may we give of our time, our resources, our money and our love to the people around us who need to experience a bit of Jesus during the holidays. Pray that we are salt and light and that we eternally impact the people in our lives.   • Pray for six new Christian TV writers who will be chosen for The Poiema Project, a unique television writers’ mentoring program for Christians in Hollywood. Join us in praying for God to place more Christians with great talent and strong faith, on the staffs of nighttime network television shows. For more info on Poiema, e-mail [e-mail]       • Pray for the New Christian Women in Media / LA! group. Quarterly events are held on the CBS Studios lot with the next slated for Jan. 12th 2012. Led by LA chapter director Kathleen Cooke, this group is open to all women who are involved in media and entertainment and want to grow in their faith, educate themselves in the industry, and inspire each other. Visit their web site at: http://www.cwima.org and pray for them, as they pray for and encourage each other, in this challenging industry.   • Some big feature films are opening this Christmas. As we buy tickets, remember to pray for the people involved in the films, both behind the scenes and in front of the camera. For more information on how to pray for some of our cultural influencers, click HERE.   • In the Spirit of giving, we would love to invite you to participate in our 2012 HPN Challenge! We realized that God supplies so miraculously that we just have to put out the need and then trust Him. So, this month, we're asking all of you to prayerfully consider donating just $5/month to HPN. We have some incredibly faithful foundations and grantors who support HPN, including a matching donor who gives us 25% of every dollar we raise during the year! If we get as many of you as possible to become on-line monthly donors, then we would not only reach our 2012 budget, but we could expand our prayer support, influence and encouragement in Hollywood. Would you join us?
