The eyes of the world are on Malaysia, as that nation coordinates an international search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, which vanished over a week ago. We unite in prayer for the 239 souls still missing, for loved ones struggling with uncertainty and grief, and for transportation and military officials coordinating the massive search effort. And yet we also look beyond what we hear in the news and pray for the other tens of millions of lost souls in Malaysia.
Ethnic Malays are regarded by the government as Muslim. Since proselytism of Muslims is illegal, they have few opportunities to hear the Gospel. Although the church is growing, it is primarily among non-Muslim ethnic groups, leaving the Malay as one of the largest unreached people groups in the world. Praise God, the existing church has begun to rise above the discrimination and corruption of their culture, to unite as one and work together, even across racial and denominational barriers.
May God use this still-unfolding tragedy to soften the hearts of many in Malaysia, drawing them into a right relationship with Him.
