Norway

Prayercast header

With a vibrant history of revival, prayer, and pietism, Norway has seen days of great spiritual life.  Yet today, half of Norwegians either have begun to doubt their previously held faiths or have embraced atheism completely.  The revivals of the past have dwindled, and less than 10% of today's young people are committed to Christ.

Lutheranism, the state church of Norway, has stayed relatively healthy as a whole and has given Norway a consistent theological voice.  But, the Lutheran church struggles with many of the same social issues as the world, with battles over homosexuality and other moral issues.  The world has begun to influence the church more than the church influencing the world.

Even in the midst of these setbacks, though, Norway continues to be one of the greatest sending nations in the world, with a long legacy of missionary service all over the globe.  There is a concern about whether the next generation will continue this legacy, as many of Norway's young people do not understand the Gospel for themselves, much less feel a calling to share it with others.

A fresh and new spiritual awakening is needed to sweep across this nation calling nominal christians to radical discipleship, calling atheists to belief in the one true God, and calling young people to a life fully surrendered to His will.

Together let's watch and pray,
