Kazakhstan

Prayercast header

Neighboring Asia, the Middle East, and Russia, Kazakhstan finds itself sprawling across many cultures and worldviews. Although communism held a tight grip for many years, now Islam is spreading, with the number of registered mosques increasing from 46 in 1989 to 1,282 in 2002.

Orthodox Christianity is seen as the faith of the Russians, and evangelicals are often seen as part of a dangerous sect.  But in the midst of this, Christianity has seen unbelievable growth.  From virtually no Kazakh believers in 1990 to 15,000 in 2012, God is certainly on the move!  However, harassment from authorities and unbelieving family members can present a challenge for Kazakh believers.

In recent years Kazakhstan has had great economic success and growth. This new found wealth has only been seen by an elite few, leaving most of the country still in poverty. Alcoholism and drug addiction are becoming more and more widespread, devastating and dividing families.

Due to its strategic location, Kazakhstan is a land of opportunity. If God brings revival there, it could spread throughout the Middle East, Russia, and even into Central Asia.

Together let's watch and pray,
