Power of Corporate Prayer

In the early 1700’s, in a quiet little village set in the foothills of eastern Germany, a remarkable move of God was born. The place was Herrnhut, Germany where the spirit of the Lord fell and launched a prayer movement that literally changed the course of Christian history. The community consisted of many different protestant sects of that day and was deeply divided. There were many problems because of all the different backgrounds that fuelled subsequent conflicts amongst its leadership. This came to a nadir in the Spring of 1727 when the earl of Herrnhut, Count Nicholaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf, began to visit the leadership to see what might be done to foster better relationships. Listening closely to their complaints, he drew up a covenantal document that helped them all come into agreement with clearer focus.
The townsfolk began to meet together to pray and worship. As they worshipped and prayed together, God’s Presence descended. His Spirit and their hunger inspired them to start praying unceasingly 24 hours a day 7 days a week. As they cooperated with His Spirit, covenanted to persevere together, God moved and the world would never be the same again.
This move of God in 1727 lasted over 100 years. Over 200 missionaries were sent from this one small little village that prayed 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Nations were transformed from the missionary zeal of these people. The prayer watch continued in spite of Count von Zinzendorf’s absences even for extended periods of time. God literally called his people to pray and they obeyed.
No one can deny the extraordinary times we are living in. They are supernatural times, requiring supernatural intervention. God is moving to wake up His Church. The trumpet has sounded across the land for prayer watches to be established, for raising up an alertness and accuracy in our spiritual walk, corporate prayer and worship lives. The question is will we, the Church, respond?
"If the Church is the nations’ best hope, it must be awakened from its slumber and quicly. Revival must become an urgent priority, not just a theological or historical curiosity. Its promotion must become the task of every pulpit, its implementation the responsibility of every believer. For this to happen, desperate intercessors must prevail upon God to provoke within His people a deep and widespread dissatisfaction with the religious status quo.
The Church needs godly shepherds who will resolutely refuse to downplay the urgency of the hour and the seriousness of the present condition. She requires committed prophets who will seize every opportunity to acknowledge with Ezekiel: ‘Our offenses and sins weigh us down, and we are wasting away because of them’ (Ezekiel 33:10). We have come to the point, both as individuals and as a Church, where we can no longer coast on the momentum of past deeds and choices. Our relationship with God has become fallow, and it can only become fruitful again through true repentance and unreserved obedience.
In this unsettled hour, the eyes of the Lord are upon His people. Will He find faith in the earth? Will He find a hunger for His presence? Will He find a ready remnant through whom He can speak to the nations and their leaders? Let us press in to hear what the Spirit has to say to the Church. If this requires us to suspend, at least temporarily, some of our most cherished routines - let us seize the moment!” ~ George Otis, Jr.
We might be surprised at the power and progress we would make spiritually if churches and individual prayer groups joined together to cover our cities and nations in such dedicated prayer. Such cooperative prayer could have the power to change the course of a nation; it was true in Nehemiah’s (Neh 4:9; 7:30; 12:25) and Joshua’s (Jos 3:5-7) time and it was true in Herrnhut. It could be true today if we could simply agree to co-operate and join together in this effort.

In his book The Watchmen, Tom Hess states: “It is my conviction after years of study and experience that all believers are called to be watchmen."
Why don't YOU answer this call to pray by dedicating 1 hour of your day or night to an intimate time with the Lord and invite others to join you?

I remind myself of all God's promises, like the one in Psalm 2: "He said to me, “You are my son (daughter); today I have become your father. Ask me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. You will break them with a rod of iron; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.”
This is when I fall to my knees and give Him Praise, Glorify His Name and Bless Him for His Mercy and Grace! I thank Him for the gift of Prayer and the gift of being His daughter (son).
Today I want to invite you to join me as we give Praise for the miracles that are happening all around us and to please share some with me so that together we can Glorify His Name in the midst of the mess of our world. Remember, no miracle or testimony is insignificant.
Please Pray for Turkey today!
TURKEY ERUPTS - COUP FAILS - PURGE ENSUES
Pray for:
- Christian Believers worldwide to realize the awesome power we have in prayer. Pray that Turkey will not become an Islamic nation. Pray that the draft and final constitution will guarantee that Turkey will continue to be a secular government (The Bible,2 Corinthians 10:3-6 ).
- Fair-minded judges to be reinstated, for our God loves justice (The Bible,Leviticus 19:15 ,Amos 5:24).
- Fair and just inquiries and trials for those arrested in the recent attempted coup (The Bible,Deuteronomy 19:15).
- Christian Believers in Turkey to be bold in their witness to others as they explain the hope they have in Jesus Christ (The Bible, 1 Peter 3: 15-16).
- Turkish Christians to follow the admonition in 2 Chronicles 7:14 and thus mobilize a massive amount of prayer. May they cry out day and night for God's intervention for their nation, and may Turkey once again return to its Biblical roots - a powerhouse for God and sending base for evangelists (The Bible, Acts 16:6-10).
