SATURDAY IS THE DAY
Our city continues to experience persistent violence and crippling needs. As followers of Jesus, we acknowledge the urgency to prayerfully engage our region together with the love of Christ and the hope of the gospel, knowing that, “A historically divided city cannot be changed by a historically divided Church.”
On Saturday, we are inviting the Church in Chicagoland to gather together for “Chicagoland United in Prayer” at Douglas Park in the Lawndale community on Chicago’s West side. We invite you to join us at this gathering in the spirit of John 17:
“I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.”

Our hearts are still heavy tho, as we saw the sobering headlines headlines in the Chicago Tribune this morning, "Violence out of Control", as there were 45 shooting in Chicago over the weekend, the bloodiest in over 2 years. Much work ahead as we learn to "labor" in prayer for our city (Col. 4:12)! May God have mercy and hear our cries! For the Fame of His Name, Doc
THIS MONTH'S PRAYER FOCUS
Brokenness Over Our City
In 2 Chronicles 34 we see that King Josiah was sensitive and responsive to God's Word. He saw how the people had turned their backs on the Lord and that their country was in danger of being punished. His heart was broken over his people's sin and he wept in God's presence. The Lord was moved by his brokenhearted prayers for his people. Let us too see how we, the people of God here in Chicago, are not living fully according to His Word, and let our hearts too be broken over our sin and the sin of Chicago. May God see our tears and hear our prayers, and may He bring citywide transformation.
VERSE
2 Chronicles 34:27"Because your heart was responsive and you humbled yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the Lord."
QUOTE
Charles Finney
"There can be no revival when Mr. Amen and Mr. Wet-Eyes are not found in the audience."
"Revival comes from heaven when heroic souls enter the conflict determined to win or die-or if need be, to win and die! "The kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force."
PEOPLE GROUP FOCUS
Prisoners and their Families
There are thousands of men and women who are currently locked up in the jails of our city, as well as others from our city in prisons throughout the state. Let us pray that they would meet God during their incarceration. Pray that the Lord will empower the chaplains and provide many volunteers to reach out to them with the love of Christ. Pray for fruitful restoration for them as they return to society. Pray for ministries that reach out to inmates and/or their families. Pray for the children of prisoners that God would encourage their hearts.

A few weeks ago, several dozen Northside pastors and leaders gathered for lunch with the Pray Chicago team to share vision and plans about the next Pray Chicago. This next gathering will be specifically focussed on the international flavor of the Northside, and will truly be a beautiful picture of the body of Christ uniting in prayer!
We are now just three weeks away, and I wanted to send out the info and promotional materials. We would love for you to join us on Sep 17th and to bring your people to join this city-wide prayer gathering. We are trusting to fill the 1,500+ seats and need to use the overflow seating!

THIS MONTH'S PRAYER FOCUS
Praying for Spiritual Awakening
Praise God for the many evangelistic events that will take place this month. On August 20th, over 10,000 people will hear the gospel through the Convoy of Hope in Marquette Park, and many churches are hosting "Back to School" outreaches. Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians, that the spiritual hearts of the lost are blinded by the evil one. We can boldly proclaim the truths of the gospel, but we must first spend time asking our Mighty God to remove the blinders so that they can see the Glory of God in the face of Christ. Let us intercede this month for the many who will hear the gospel message, that God will allow His light to shine in their hearts and that many names will be written in the Lambs Book of Life!
VERSE
2 Corinthians 4:4-6"The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ.”
QUOTE
John R. Mott
"A necessary pre-cursor of any great spiritual awakening is a spirit of deep humiliation growing out of a consciousness of sin, and fresh revelation of the holiness and power and glory of God."

Athletes
This week as we watch the Olympics, let us pray for all the athletes that they will not only compete to win the gold medal, but also for the Eternal Prize of Eternal Life. Pray for the olympians to grow a greater love for Christ then for their sport. Pray also for the athletes here in Chicago; from softball and soccer fields, to the professional athletes of our city. Pray that each and every one of them might be realize their need for Christ, and that He might keep them safe as they enjoy their sport.
THE LATEST
This summer we have seen God answering prayer in big ways as we come together as a Body of believers to cry out in unison. On May 27th we launched the Chicago Peace Campaign in the Roseland Community. Since that night, we have been out on 119th St. and Princeton every Friday night from 9 pm to 1 am. We have seen over 10 churches unite together to help cover the corner in prayer. We spend time in group prayer, crying out for peace and for revival.
