I'm looking at the following:* 2:7 Series* DFD - Design For Discipleship* Growing in ChristI need to select study material for an existing weekly group bible study that will help us to really grow in Christ and take seriously our calling to make disciples. Can anyone explain the differences in the above materials and advise which is the best choice? Or suggest something better?
Hi Ken: Try to be helpful rather than patting my own back :).... But I'd say in comparison to DFD, Growing Out is more interactive/relational (which is to say, more geared for small group study rather than individual study, although you could certainly do it on yr own), and more specifically applicational (i.e., "OK, now that you know this, what are you going to DO with it? And here are some ideas you can try...") The "active learning" pieces may or may not appeal to you, but they're Group DNA; I did work hard to make sure they worked for adults and weren't just goofy (which a lot of adult Group stuff can be, I'm afraid). I think biblical-content wise, they're at least comparable; probably less passages than in DFD, but y'r also taking the time to dig in and apply them, more than just learn them/answer the questions. You can get samples at the Group site, if y'r interested; or I can just send them to you if you gimme an email address.
Mary, good idea, I like inductive bible studies too. For this class, I hope to explore what we believe and why, and how to share this good news with others.
Have you ever considered inductive Bible study? If you look on Intervarsity's website or Kay Arthur's they can give you some tips. It is basically a way to let the Bible speak for itself, instead of having somebody else tell you what it says.
