I think this book is a very good presentation of what God wants us all to be. It talks about christians flourishing by living and being what God has meant for them to be. It takes the pressure off of living up to others expectations and gives us the freedom to be us.

In one of the chapters it states "comparision kills spiritual growth." Also Henri Nouwen wrote "spiritual greatness has nothing to do with being greater than others. It has everything to do with being as great as each of us can be."

This is a very good resource for anyone seeking to grow in their faith as that is the major focus in the book. One of the other statements was this "God made you to flourish to receive life from outside of yourself, creating vitality within yourself and producing blessing beyond yourself. Flourishing is God's gift and plan, and when you flourish you are in harmony with God, other people, creation, and yourself."

Just go buy it and see for yourself.

  • I haven't read this book yet, but as John Ortberg is one of my all-time favorite authors I will definitely be checking this out soon! Also great by the same author: The Life You've Always Wanted and If You Want to Walk on Water You Have to Get Out of the Boat.
  • I am in the midst of reading this book and am just loving it!..chocked full of real life illustrations, as well as the author's transparency...it frees people to become the special unique person that God delightedly created them to be...and to release the cuffs of being the person that someone else has "created " us to be as well as our own "creation" of ourselves.....free to rise and "flourish like a palm tree" (Psalm 92:12)...how refreshing....just like a long cool drink on a hot and arid day :-)
