What do you think?...What makes one believer an Intercessor while some seem to have no interest in intercession? Is it a gift? A calling? A mark of spiritual maturity or obedience? How does a person move from self-centered prayer to being burdened for cities, nations, or specific populations?
At one point in my life, I told the Lord that I wanted to be more of an intercessor. He has a good sense of humor because he chose to answer that prayer by waking me up in the middle of the night with a heavy burden for a person with whom I was struggling. It wasn't enough that he told me to pray for this person who had misrepresented me to others and who was causing me grief, he gave me this deep pain and compassion for her! He told me not only to pray for her but to meet with her, tell her what God had done, and pray with her. She was shocked when I came to her and I was humbled. Later on, God showed me how necessary this was to tear down a particular stronghold in this church.

Intercessors are called. See Ezek 22:30. They must be willing to Pray, Fast, Intercede, Listen to (sometimes) very selfish Prayer Request, Discern what's truly needed and bring those requests before The Lord. If there was not a specific need and calling, we would all simply be on our own to pray for ourselves. But obviously there are specific issues like covering Pastors and Ministries and Charitable Organizations and Lifesaving Missions as well as our Military that would all fizzle and fail without intercession.
