#ItSeemsToMe …

Each of us, but also the Church, needs revival.

A revival marked by a return.

A return to our first love.

”“But I have this against you: You have left the love you had in the beginning.“

Revelation‬ ‭2‬:‭4‬

Maybe the love that was birthed in us at the beginning has gotten too tangled with our traditions and the social comfort of churchianity.

Could our love of Scripture be confused with interpretations and applications that are infused, even infected, with our worldview rather than the radical (“to the root;” not to the left or to the right) teaching of our Lord and Savior?

Revival must be a return; a U turn from-to.

That requires a knowledge of what the “from” is, otherwise we will simply return to our worship-style preferences and our culture-influenced methods of discilplemaking.

Revival must include a confession of sin but revivals that only target personal sin protect the corporate systems  that have brought us to this crisis point. The rule of law over the role of love. Skilled and talented speakers who entertain rather than empower. Leadership thriving on authority rather than building relationships that bless others to bless others. Judgement trumps justice. New, prophetic, wine rejected or restricted by old wine skins.

May the Holy Spirit raise up humble leaders who can untangle biblical truth from historical interpretations and cultural applications that are no longer appropriate or never were accurate.

Teachers who give us a corporate understanding of what it means for the Church to “”not be shaped by this world; instead be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect.“ Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭2‬ ‭

We need a revival of how we approach and then apply Scripture that results in new ways of making disciples, praying together, expressing the Gospel, bringing redemption to our neighborhoods.

Lord Jesus...Revive us. Revive your Church.
