Do not be afraid to share

I have shared one area that intercessors may face in my first post.  I know there are other areas--Please don't be afraid to share them.  Knowing what others have been through may help many others.

First, I'm thankful for an opportunity to share with other intercessors, and commit to praying for us both as a group and as individuals. For years I prayed using a prayer list - I'm a member of a small church so it was easy for me to "pray through" the church membership roll each day, that in addition to family members, friends, ministries, etc. It got to the point that I could pray without giving it much thought. Several years ago I felt led to "give up" my prayer list for Lent - that was so freeing! I didn't want to "take it back up" once Lent had ended and I didn't feel led to return to it. I still pray for church members as well as family members, ministries & other needs on a regular basis, but I'm trying to seek how God would have me pray. As God continues to grow me in this area of prayer I find that instead of making sure everyone is prayed for, I'm praying deeper for the ones God lays upon my heart. I take great comfort in Romans 8:26 knowing that the Holy Spirit helps us in our prayers.
  • There are many intercessors who use lists to help them pray. I too keep a list to help me focus on prayer issues that the Lord has brought my way and have learned to listen to the Lord when praying. The Lord's leading helps me to let my heart pray. I really appreciate hearing when intercessors also learn to pray from the heart and to listen to God's Holy Spirit guide us. Those prayers are especially meaningful.

May the Lord bless all who have learned to pray from their heart.

  • Praise God from whom all blessings flow. This is why I joined this network to get and give encouragement in my prayer life and the prayer life of others. Praying Scripture for others is a wonderful way to pray the Father's heart. Thank you for this reminder.

I too have prayed for people, and sometimes they ask for prayer but just plain forget to keep us up to date. Also I like to have some idea of what to pray for, but I recognize there are times when I need to ask the Lord for a scripture to guide my prayers or remember past issues the Lord made me aware of.

To all intercessors, please remember this is a common occurrence, and when ever you can pray for fellow intercessors, please pray that the Lord will help us keep the proper focus in our prayers, and may His word guide us. ---May this be so, Lord Jesus, and thank you that we can come to the Father using your name. Amen.
  • Thanks, Lewis...that is very helpful encouragement and advice...to ask the Lord for a Scripture to guide in prayer!

Also, I prayed that prayer that you posted for my fellow intercessors!

    Thanks!
    Love,
    Anne

  • Thank you Pamela,

Perhaps others might join in praying for intercessors--that we will have encouragement needed to keep praying for others.

Father may those who take the time to pray for others, find encouragement and blessing from You to continue praying. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
  • Sometimes I feel like my intercession is just rote, saying the same things over and over when I don't have updates or haven't had contact with a certain person in a long time. Then, God, in is abundant grace, shows me that my seeming rote prayers have actually been His guidance. God has blessed me through fb in reconnecting with many that I had previously lost contact with but continued to pray for. I discovered that many of the things I had been praying for were direct answers to their needs.
All this to say: Keep on praying. God hears and answers even when you don't see it.
