Recently,--that recently was today, I was made aware that some leaders relegate intercessors to just praying for requests that come into a church or a group. Yes, that is a function of intercession, but not all intercessors are called to do that. In fact, there are a number of areas that intercessors are called to that cover other areas too. One important one is praying for leadership.
When an intercessor prays for church leaders or group/ministry leaders, it is not unusual for the Lord to speak to them. Many group/ministry leaders, and church leaders rely on the insight of their boards to guide them--assuming that they are people of prayer. That is true some of the time. I had two ministers give some valuable advice for intercessors to me today, especially when they sense something of the Lord for a group/ministry or a church. The advice was, before approaching the leadership, take time to pray that the Lord will bring an agreement to what is truly from Him. If something is truly from the Lord, then the Holy Spirit should bring a sense of agreement to both the leader/leadership of the group/ministry or church that it was meant for and the intercessor.
I have read many many books, many good books, but this is the first time that I have actually heard this encouragement of a prayer to pray in preparation before you share something you sense from the Lord. This type of prayer invites the Lord's involvement. If the Lord gave you a message to share, then invite the Lord to go ahead of you before you share it.
I am thankful for what I learned,--I would like to hear from others on this group about their experiences as intercessors when they have worked with leadership in situations similar to what I have shared.
