That thought scrolled across my mind as a clear and compelling message from the Lord in the late spring of 2005. As interim pastor of the Uptown Baptist Church in Chicago, I was responsible for the Wednesday evening prayer gathering and had been seeking the Lord's direction for our summer months of praying together. His words to me that day would impact the congregation and my approach to prayer more than I realized at the time. Read more . . . Should We Pray for the Lost? by Jon Graf   I have a close friend who believes that we do not need to pray for the lost. His reasoning is that nowhere in scripture does it say that we are to pray for the lost. There are commands to pray for a few things-the peace of Jerusalem, laborers for the harvest, pray for your enemy-but nowhere does it command us to pray for the lost. I had to gently disagree with my friend, but I can understand a little of his thinking. Nowhere is there a direct command, "pray for the lost," but we pray for a lot of things where there is not a direct command to do so. There are, however, some very clear evidences that Paul prayed for the lost. Read more . . . I feel so connected to God as I look at the vast sea, thunderously breathing in and out. The familiar aroma of the salt-laden air and the pleasurable feeling of sand between my toes remind me how many of my senses are fully engaged in this simple experience. More than 350 individuals came to Van Dyke Church for this Friday-Saturday event. It was exciting to see so many hungry people who wanted to learn to pray more effectively. Even more exciting was the unity as people came from multiple churches and denominations. Speakers reflected that diversity as well--they represented Southern Baptist, Church of God (Cleveland), Methodist, Christian and Missionary Alliance and Presbyterian. Something happens when this kind of unity occurs. It was a powerful experience.   Our next event is the Midwest Prayer Conference in March (see below). If you are considering holding a prayer weekend or conference at your church, I highly recommend doing so. CHURCH PRAYER LEADERS NETWORK Harvest Prayer Ministries  March/April Vol. 11, No. 2 Dear Phil,  Just a few weeks ago I was ministering to a group of prayer leaders at one of our regional conferences. A woman shared with me how she had stepped away from her role as a prayer leader in her church, but she felt that God was now calling her to get back into that role again. She was willing to be obedient, but was apprehensive as she knew what up-hill battle lay ahead because the leadership or her church didn't "get it."   Many of us struggle in our prayer leader situations because we have a passion for growing prayer, and often a leadership that is not supportive or views prayer as more of a side issue.
