Dear Intercessors,

There has been concern about possible terror incidents occurring in America this weekend as we gather across the country to remember the veterans of war and their sacrifices.  That public events would be soft targets for anyone wanting to harm vets as retribution for participating abroad in the military.

The Lord reminded me of a prayer strategy He gave my team here a few years ago that may be used especially for this weekend praying for America, but actually for any prayer focus as the Holy Spirit leads.

It came in the form of a vision.

There was this lone cowboy riding on his quarter horse as fast as the little pony could run.  In hot pursuit was a band of bad guys chasing this one man as fast as they could go.  They ran across the desert and turned a corner of a rise right into a canyon with high walls and no way out.  The walls were too steep to ride up and too slick to climb.

The lone cowboy had unknowingly run right into an entrapment with the enemy closing in fast.  With no choice the cowboy kept going up to the end of the canyon and turned to face the enemy.

The enemy saw the cowboy's predicament and closed in for the kill.

Suddenly, just as the enemy came close to the cowboy the canyon walls started to move.  They started to wrap around and close off the canyon entrance they had all rode in through which cut off any way back out.

It turn out that those canyon walls were actually the arms of God, His arms of LOVE !  The cowboy had run right up into the arms of God and His protection.  But for the enemy, these arms were God closing in, ending their reign of terror.  What provision that only God could bring: salvation for the cowboy (America) while at the same time judgement for the enemies of God.

I believe we have just seen this in the last two weeks here in Texas with the Garland terror incident and the Waco biker conflict.  In both scenarios, the police and by-standers were protected miraculously and it was the enemy that had the casualties.  Evil was exposed AND dealt with.  This is God going ahead of us so that what the enemy meant for evil, God turned to good.

The scripture He has given me often as we assemble in prayer that is to be applied not only to the prayer team doing the prayer, but also applied to the subject of the prayer focus (recipients) as well:

Isaiah 4:5-6Amplified Bible (AMP)

And the Lord will create over the whole site, over every dwelling place of Mount Zion and over her assemblies, a cloud and smoke by day and the shining of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory shall be a canopy (a defense of divine love and protection).

And there shall be a pavilion for shade in the daytime from the heat, and for a place of refuge and a shelter from storm and from rain.

May He grant us wisdom to apply this and other prayer strategies rightly and timely for our nation this weekend.  May His arms of Love encompass our nation with protection and provision in the face of the enemy, yes, even the enemy among us that we know not !  May we be at His banqueting table and His Banner over America be LOVE !!!

Blessings,

Who prays for YOUR backyard?

"Who prays for YOUR backyard?"

As our prayer team disembarked the plane that brought us home to DFW from a Washington, DC prayer assignment a few years ago, I heard this question from the Holy Spirit. I asked "what?" "You heard me, WHO prays for YOUR backyard?" My first thought was "this is a trick question Lord." Then He showed me that often, as intercessors, the headlines catch our attention and that is where much of our prayers are targeted, and it is often national and international items we cover in prayer. And those are important too.
But I took His point well realizing it did not cross my mind until a crisis happens to pray over our home state.

What if we gave our state the same prayer opportunity once in a while in that we place ourselves before the Lord to wait on Him for our state, it's leaders, those who govern over us from the city dog catcher to the governor and all offices in between. The people of our state, including those all important "Josephs" that live here, but do international and Kingdom work in the public arena given by God for His use?

1) Take time to go to your state capital and pray on site with insight. It is my opinion that the local church cannot bear the prayer burden of the state capital by themselves....we need to manup and do our part !! Prayerwalk the grounds of your capital, for not only the elected officials and their staff, but all the troopers who keep it secure, the other clerks and staff that make your capital operate smoothly.
2) Is there legislation pending that will make life better or more difficult for it's citizens? Don't know? Find out !! And I have found God has His agenda of what needs to take place....maybe there is legislation we need to pray in to existence !! Get lists of all the elected officials at the state level and pray regularly for them including state and district courts.. Put a map of your state in your tool box for prayer and regularly pull it out to pray for it.
3) You know the state and city laws/services effect our daily life a lot more directly than even the national ones...things like our streets paved & highways built/repaired,public school quality, sales & property taxes, all those things that come out of the state capital and our local city hall efforts.

Consider what your influence for prayer for your state might be, whether in your local church or city prayer group, and get started with it. Invite others and spread the word !!

That we join Heaven in agreeing our city and state will collectively achieve it's destiny from God and fulfill it's Kingdom purposes. Unique in it's giftings and resources, YOUR state is called of Him for such a time as this !!

Blessings,
Pat

Prayers of the Presidents

Prayers of Our Fathers

It has become fashionable in some circles to deny the Christian foundations of the United States. This week, when we celebrate President’s Day on February 17, would be a good time to listen to the words of our national Fathers and join them in their prayers for America:

Benjamin Franklin: On the Need for Divine Guidance

“I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live the more convincing proofs I see of this truth – that God Governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?

We have been assured, Sir, in the Sacred Writings, that ‘except the Lord build the House, they labor in vain that build it.’ I firmly believe this; and I also believe that without his concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the Builders of Babel: We shall be divided by our partial local interests; out projects will be confounded, and we ourselves shall become a reproach and bye word down on future ages.

And what is worse, mankind may thereafter from this unfortunate instance, despair of establishing Governments by Human wisdom and leave it to chance, war and conquest.

I therefore beg leave to move – that henceforth prayers imploring the assistance of Heaven, and its blessing on our deliberations, be held in this Assembly every morning before we proceed to business, and that one or more of the clergy of this city be requested to officiate in that service.” – June 28, 1787 at the Constitutional Convention

George Washington: Prayer for the United States

“Almighty God, We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy Holy protection; and Thou wilt incline the hearts of the Citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to Government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow Citizens of the United States at large, and particularly for their brethren who have served in the Field.

And finally that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean ourselves with that Charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the Characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed Religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation.

Grant our supplication, we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.”

Thomas Jefferson: National Prayer for Peace

“Almighty God, Who has given us good land for our heritage; We humbly beseech Thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Thy favor and glad to do Thy will. Bless our land with honorable ministry, sound learning, and pure manners.

Save us from violence, discord, and confusion, from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitude brought hither out of many kindred and tongues.

Endow with Thy spirit of wisdom those who in Thy Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that through obedience to Thy law, we may show forth Thy praise among the nations of the earth.

In time of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in Thee to fail, all of which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.”

Abraham Lincoln: National Day of Prayer and Humiliation

“Whereas, the Senate of the United States devoutly recognizing the Supreme Authority and Government of Almighty God in all the affairs of men and of nations, has, by a resolution, requested the President to designate and set apart a day for national prayer and humiliation:

And whereas, it is the duty of nations as well as of men to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon, and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history: that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord:

And insomuch as we know that, by His divine law, nations like individuals are subject to punishment and chastisement in this world, may we not justly fear that the awful calamity of civil war, which now desolates the land may be but a punishment inflicted upon us for our presumptuous sins to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole people?

We have been recipient of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no other nation has ever grown.

But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious Hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own.

Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us!

It behooves us then to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sin and to pray for clemency and forgiveness.

Now, therefore, in compliance with the request and fully concurring in the view of the Senate, I do, by this proclamation, designate and set apart Thursday, the 30th day of April, 1863, as a day of national humiliation, fasting and prayer.

And I do hereby request all the people to abstain on that day from their ordinary secular pursuits, and to unite, at their several places of public worship and their respective homes, in keeping that day holy to the Lord and devoted to the humble discharge of the religious duties proper to that solemn occasion.

All this being done, in sincerity and truth, let us then rest humbly in the hope authorized by the Divine teachings, that the united cry of the nation will be heard on high and answered with blessings no less than the pardon of our national sins and restoration of our now divided and suffering country to its former happy condition of unity and peace.

In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand to caused the seal of the United States to be affixed. By the President: Abraham Lincoln.”

To which we can only add: Amen. God Bless you today !  Pat

The Aroma of Salvation

http://www.missionamerica.org/Brix?pageID=12737
prayer.jpg The love of God is incredible. It is so difficult for us to fathom and describe.
He loves and cares for us beyond our comprehension. And that is His assignment for us to actively love all the people around us with His kind of love. In a real sense, He is asking us to allow His love to flow through us to care for those persons who we meet and know and ultimately share Jesus with them so they too will understand and have eternal salvation!
During last week's conference call to pray for evangelism in America, I saw a picture of someone coming home from a long day's work, and as they entered the back door, they suddenly could smell supper cooking in the kitchen. Oh how the aroma of that engulfed them and created a hunger they had not had until entering and smelling the food. I have never considered it, but felt the Lord showing me there is a "smell of salvation". An aroma of our loving Father that creates a "hunger" to be with Him, a desire to receive His love and affection, to fill ourselves with the substance of what our "spiritual noses" have sensed and communicated to our spirit, soul and body.
Our prayer was for that aroma to drift across the land and invade the senses of those who have not
"tasted and seen that He is good !" May the love we know and feel provoke the unsaved to jealousy and create a hunger that only the Father can feed with His presence.
Take your lunch hour and join us to pray this and more for everyone in America any Wednesday at 12 noon CDT by dialing: 1-641-715-3300, passcode 416432 #.
I hope to pray with you then,

International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church

Focus: Pray for Iran

Population: 74.2 million

Capital: Tehran

Government: Theocratic republic

Religion: Muslim 96%; Zoroastrian 2.6%; Christian 0.58%; Other 0.82%

  • · Freedom for all faiths other than Shia Islam is very limited, despite constitutional guarantees of religious liberty.
  • · Evangelising Muslims is banned and the official penalty for apostasy (conversion from Islam) is death, although the sentence is rarely carried out.

 · Most Christians are discriminated against in education, employment and property ownership - those from a Muslim background paying a particularly high price for their faith.

  • · Most Christians arrested are held for less than a month, although bail demands can be very high (up to £160,000). Many leave the country after being released from detention.

Prayers for Iran

Please distribute these written prayers and prayer points to your Bible study or small group so you can pray for persecuted Christians in Iran. Consider posting these prayer points on your Facebook page or website, so that others can join you in praying. You may also like to use this Litany for the persecuted church.

Please use this short prayer for persecuted Iranian Christians as part of your contribution to IDOP. You can also use the Iran Prayer Map, produced by the UK agency Release International, which gives prayer points for individual Iranian Christians.

Prayer for Iran

Lord God, majestic in power, we pray that today Your precious family in Iran may know You as the Father of compassion and God of all comfort.
Please strengthen and protect your family which faces persecution and hardship for the sake of Jesus.
Give wisdom to Your church in Iran, as they meet both publicly and in secret.
Encourage those who have been detained or imprisoned, and who are now separated from their loved ones. Please guard their hearts and minds with Your peace which transcends all understanding.
We pray for believers from a Muslim background who often face the greatest challenges. Please help each one to walk closely with You, to find fellowship with other secret Christians and to grow strong in Your Word of truth.
Thank you for each and every believer in Christ in Iran: may Your love surround them and Your power protect them from the evil one.
In the mighty name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

PRAY FOR CHRISTIAN PRISONERS

Pray for Christians in prison where treatment can be brutal; prisoners can be subjected to torture and rape. At least 20 believers (mostly from a Muslim background) remain detained across Iran because of their Christian faith and activities.

PASTOR YOUSEF NADARKHANI: RELEASED

Detained from October 2009 and sentenced to death for apostasy (converting from Islam). Pastor Nadarkhani refused to recant his faith, and was released on September 8 after the charge of apostasy was dropped. Pray for him as he re-adjusts to life with his family.

PASTOR BEHNAM IRANI - Serving a jail term in Ghezel Hesar Prison, Karaj, since May 2011 for ‘anti-government activity’. Pray for healing as he has suffered mistreatment and ill health in jail.

FARSHID FATHI - His six-year prison sentence for 'acting against national security' and 'religious propagation' has been upheld at an appeal court. Farshid is detained in the notorious Evin prison in Tehran. Pray for his early release.

MARYAM JALILI - Maryam is a Muslim-background believer who was sentenced to two and a half years in December 2011 for being a member of an ‘illegal group'. She is understood to be in Evin prison, Tehran. Pray for God’s protection.

MASOUD DELIJANI - Given a three-year sentence in February in Kermanshah for holding illegal house church gatherings, evangelising Muslims and action against national security. He was allegedly denied the right to choose his own advocate or defend himself. Pray for strength to stand firm.

Liturgy: Remembering the persecuted

Invitation to worship

Leader: In You, Lord, do I take refuge

Response: Let me never be put to shame

L: In Your righteousness, deliver and save

R: Be as a refuge and a strong fortress (Psalm 71:2-3)

Almighty God, who has taught us through your Son, Jesus Christ, that those who follow Him may be persecuted: strengthen, comfort and encourage all those who suffer harassment, violence, imprisonment and even death for being followers of Jesus.

We pray for those who persecute your people; may their hearts be turned towards you through the faithful witness of those they persecute. Protect members of the families and church communities of those who are persecuted and bless the work and ministry of Release International and its partners as they support those who are suffering and seek to be a voice for persecuted Christians.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Liturgy: Closing prayer

Lord God, heavenly Father, give us the courage of the martyrs to bear witness, without flinching, to Your great love for us.

Give us their confidence in the resurrection of Your Son, Jesus, and give us that same power and reassurance of the Holy Spirit as You give them, so that we too may fearlessly bring Your good news to a needy world.

This we ask in the name of Him who was crucified for us and who called us to take up our crosses and to follow Him, even Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.

R: Amen and Amen

GOD TV Broadcasting America for Jesus Prayer Rally

America for Jesus

Thousands will gather in Philadelphia this weekend for the America for Jesus solemn assembly. And GOD TV is broadcasting the potentially historic prayer rally live.

The two-day broadcast marathon will start on Friday, Sept. 28 at 8.30pm with the Awakening Youth Rally hosted by Teen Mania founder Ron Luce. Speakers at the all day event on Saturday, Sept. 29 include Cindy Jacobs, Lou Engle and Bishop Harry Jackson.

"America is in a state of emergency evidenced by widespread moral depravity and economic meltdown," say the event's national chairperson, Anne Gimenez. "There is only one remedy, we need to renew our covenant with God. We are calling America back to God and proclaiming liberty and freedom over our nation."

America for Jesus aims to mobilize Christians in prayer, calling the church to be "the salt" that will bring healing to the nation. It was birthed out of One Nation Under God, a coalition of ministries that has organized several solemn assemblies that have attracted several hundred thousand people.

It is significant that America For Jesus 2012 will take place at the Independence Mall in Philadelphia as this is where the Declaration of Independence was signed and where the Constitution of the United States was debated and ratified.

GOD TV has supported many prayer events for America including TheCall mass gatherings and annual National Day of Prayer. Rory and Wendy Alec carry a burden for America to turn back to God and encourage viewers to tune in to America for Jesus.

"God is calling the Church in the USA to awaken from her slumber," says Wendy, who is also GOD TV's director of Television. "We have to be stirred by God's might and power and rise up as a righteous people, who will humble ourselves and cry out to Him so that the enemy's plans for this nation will be reversed."

Come Together to Pray for Our Nation in Denver !!!

Dear Praying Friends,

It has occurred to me to ask of the Lord, what dynamic will shift America? We have prayed, we have fasted, we have done all we know to do. I believe the Lord is providing a portion of the answer in coming together, not only in our churches and prayer groups, but out in the community to seek God in prayer !

To come together from across the Body of Christ. That co-mingling of the saints, if you will, stirs the heart of God more than we can know. To lay down our theological differences and in the commonality of Christ, join as brothers and sisters in worship and prayer unto Him !

Denver 2012 does just that, to seek God for America for 3 days during this year's national gathering of ministry and denominational leaders. The first evening's plenary session of the conference is dedicated to worship and prayer only. Can you just imagine seeing a room full of leaders crying out to the Lord for an Awakening in America and seeing every person come to Christ. Mission America Coalition has 80+ denominations and 400+ para-church ministries that partner together on several levels in collaborative efforts to share the gospel across our nation. They will be praying together Monday night, October 29th, and you don't want to miss it !!

And I believe there will be a unique opportunity to pray for America as these representatives from across the nation and from across the Body of Christ come together. We will be focusing the afternoon times in the designated Prayer Room to pray for America and it's citizens to receive Jesus as their saviour.

This is your invitation to join me in the prayer room to intercede during these important days. If you desire to connect in the gathering itself, go to www.missionamerica.org and click on the Denver 2012 link.

Questions? Please write me back here and let's seek God for this strategy of a shift in America!

And be sure to pass this on. You may know a City Reacher, Pastor, Intercessor or Prayer Leader who needs to be there !

Blessings,

Pat Allen

40 Days of Prayer

Issued the America's National Prayer Committee ... and many other prayer leaders and ministries

The United States is clearly a nation in trouble. A battered economy, political divisiveness, the culture wars, racial uneasiness, and a sidelined church, provide the dry tinder for an inflammatory national election in November of 2012. Many stake their hopes or fears on the outcome.

While believing in and encouraging the importance of exercising our right to vote, we also call the Christian Church in America to do that which is even more critical in these days...to pray! The seriousness of our day requires an intensity of prayer that is unprecedented. Accordingly, we call for 40 days and nights of unrelenting intercession on behalf of our nation, immediately preceding the Nov.6th election.

Our focus in prayer is simple. We are praying for:
  1. Revival in the Church-that another Great Awakening would sweep across America as the Lord’s people humble themselves in repentance and prayer. (2 Chronicles 7:14)
  2. A standard of righteousness to be raised over this nation.(Proverbs 14:34)
  3. The elections- that God would intervene. This is not a partisan or political effort but a plea to bring God into a process that desperately needs His wisdom and direction. (Isaiah 48:17)
This is a call, not from one ministry or organization, but from diverse leaders from across the spectrum of the U.S. Church. It is also not a call to a particular event. It is a pleading for all Christians to do something proactive and powerful in prayer for the 40 days leading up to our fall elections.

As leaders in the Body of Christ, we commit ourselves to prayer during these days of decision regarding the future of our nation. Even more, we commit ourselves to mobilize prayer in our spheres of influence, that every part of the Lord’s Church would join together in day and night prayer for the intervention of God on the part of our nation.

"Intercessor's Nursery" In Heaven

This morning I received a dream that I wanted to share with you so that you might pray with me for implementation.
My prayer team and I found ourselves in a place I have never seen or thought of. I will call it the "Intercessor's Nursery" in Heaven. A serene place, a place of light, joy, peace all rolled into one. This is where intercessors are birthed in the Spirit and placed in bassinets. We carefully walked in and picked up a little one.
Like all babies, they each had their own facial features, hair color, all plump and happy, giggling.
Without a word spoken we knew the task at hand...mentoring the new ones. Guiding carefully their growth, covering them in prayer for this season of learning and growth. If you think on it, at this stage babies are dependent on moms & dads for everything. And they trust to get what they need...food, washing, changing, love and cuddling, encouragement. With babes there is no real discipline...they are too young. You guide them, move them along. We were their mentors..."God with skin on it."
And then I looked and could see there was a place where the Holy Spirit was busy with an even earlier stage....one of "conception of intercessors". These may be adults on earth, but spiritually in their calling and destiny in prayer...just being conceived, not yet "born." I knew we must pray and cover these...that the same spirit of abortion that tries to end life on earth would be trying to end the spiritual life of these even before they could be born.
Next we saw the toddlers of the Intercessor's Nursery. Yes, can you just imagine ! They were everywhere... tens and hundreds of them, running, crawling, trying to walk and fall down, laughing and reaching out to grow up in their own diminutive ways. I could hardly believe my eyes ! It reminded me of a heard of geese !
Loud, noisy, undisciplined, thinking they know best & running after it (strong willed) !!
You can remember your own growing up experience as an intercessor...can you think back to this stage? I'd rather not remember mine, :).....but suffice it to say, God surrounded me with several different mentors that took turns speaking truth with love into my life ! Patiently listening, lovingly pruning my branches.
This group of young intercessors really need seasoned ones to adopt them ! Both in prayer & by relationship !
Then I knew why the Lord was urging us to pray for these different stages of growth for these intercessors as well as step up and take some lovingly under our wings. They need us, but more so WE NEED THEM !!
For the Lord showed me, we are going to operate at a deficit of prayer if these are not birthed, if they are not matured to full stature. For the older generation of pray-ers are well on their way to their reward in heaven.
Who is taking their place? Who will the Lord call on? We cannot do it alone. WE HAVE TO HAVE THIS GENERATION of Intercessors to hear their calling and to take their place ! They HAVE to come in to the
Army of God, wherever that is, whatever it looks like as HE PLACES THEM ! And believe me, they will walk in places and ways we never dreamed of...good and bad, BUT WITH HIM.
Our part in their lives is to help them get there, just as someone helped you, just as someone helped me.
So, please put this on your "to be continued" prayer list, to continue in the coming weeks & months/years even, to pray over these and their development.
That we can prophetically in prayer, reach back, take them by the hand and throw them forward...that they stand on our shoulders, avoiding some of the pitfalls we endured, and grow quicker and faster than ever before ! Most we will never lay eyes on except by the Spirit thru prayer and intercession. BUT, ask God if there is that one, or two, that you should tuck under your wing and build relationship with and spend time with them, encouraging them, having a cup of coffee and tell them they are doing good and encourage them to keep on tryin' !! Just as a parent would, push them in the swing until they can learn and build their own muscle to "pump" themselves. And if they skin their knee, pick them up, dust them off, clean the wound and band aid it, then push them back to the "playground" to get on that horse and ride AGAIN!! Wahoo !!
It blesses me so to come to a place the Lord is showing me as I type, full circle. For some of us, we are not only parents, but grandparents, aunts and uncles,,,,,,cuzins. The family of God. How remarkable, how beautiful. I am so glad to be included, aren't you? And I am so glad to be in it with you !
God bless you as you serve Him in the fields of His Harvest,

Journal of Gratutude by Sylvia Gunter

Journal Of Gratitude

Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands!

Serve the LORD with gladness;

Come before His presence with singing.

Know that the LORD, He is God;

It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves;

We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,

And into His courts with praise.

Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.

For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting,

And His truth endures to all generations. Psalm 100

Surely goodness and mercy shall pursue me all the days of my life. Psalm 23:6

We often neglect to tell those who matter most how much God blesses us through their lives. Our family relationships are richer when we express our gratitude to God for them and tell them so. Gratitude starts with humility, acknowledging that we enjoy blessings because of God's mercies. A friend's personally designed Christmas card read, "Thou hast given us so much. Give us one thing more...a grateful heart."

Reflect on every person for whom you are grateful and for what you are grateful. Take out pen and paper, and share the overflow of your heart with your family. Your thanksgiving blessing will become a treasured legacy. Pray with me, "Lord, make my heart a habitation where gratitude sings."

These thoughts will get you started. Your own journal of gratitude will be longer and much more specific.

Father, from whom every family on earth is named, we give thanks-

  • for time together as a family
  • for our continuing love relationship with You through Jesus
  • for our love relationship with each other
  • for life, health, bright minds, and physical safety
  • for food, clothing, a comfortable house, a clean bed
  • for enjoying being together with laughter
  • for the uniqueness of each one
  • for the rock of strength that prayer is for us
  • for faithful friends who encourage us by praying for our family
  • for seeing God's hand of grace at work in our lives as we experience more of Him
  • for God's plan for our lives and His enabling to keep us in His will each day
  • for weaknesses through which God shows Himself strong in us
  • for wisdom and guidance in daily circumstances
  • for strength for daily demands of job and family
  • for hope, peace, victory, satisfaction, and fulfillment
  • for financial blessings
  • for spiritual strength in spiritual battles
  • for Your patience in the testing, struggles, and refining that we grow through
  • for Jesus' sufficiency for today's grace
  • for forgiveness received and forgiveness extended
  • for hearts of obedience
  • for more than we could ever deserve!

Thanks, family, for who you are and all you mean to me.

With love...

Prevailing in Prayer by Dr. Walter Fletcher

Prevailing in Prayer by Dr. Walter Fletcher

PERSONAL PRAYER

“In the morning, O LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation”(Psalm 5:3 NIV).

“Why do you pray?” someone may ask me. My answer is “I Need To Pray!” In the end, the prayers that I pray are not as important in that they change things, but that when I pray…I am changed. Does prayer really matter? This is an important question.

For many people prayer is something the religious do. By that we mean, if someone prays it suggests that they are a “religious” person. If we mean that only religious people pray, that is not necessarily accurate. Many who consider themselves non-religious pray. Equally true is the reality that many people who consider themselves religious do Not pray.

There is something built into the average person that longs to be in touch with the divine. The spirit within men and women yearns to be in contact or communion, in some way, with that which is God. To them, God is a person, or a supernatural power outside, or a force greater than themselves. This is a typical, universal urge or inquisitive desire that (unless suppressed by others or circumstances) is natural.

Early Biblical History

In reading the early record of the scriptures, we see that the original intent of God the Creator, as revealed within Himself, is that He desired fellowship. He created man and woman to relate to Him in loving, unbroken communion. This communion was first expressed in community, a union with the heart and mind of God, thereby giving expression to God’s heart, mind and will in the earth. In other words, although we do not find the word “prayer” mentioned…it certainly is implied.

Hearing, receiving and responding to God, Who is Spirit, was both encouraged and experienced.

Again, for many people, prayer is nothing more than a One-Way street sign. Even if they did believe in prayer, for them, it would be like driving down a street one way with no expectation of meeting any vehicles coming from the opposite direction. They talk to God without any expectation that they will be heard or communicated with. And yet what makes prayer both a necessity and worthwhile is that God invites personal conversation with Him. He longs to respond to our thoughts, desires and needs.

A Priority for Personal Prayer

I would place this definition as a priority for our understanding of personal prayer: “Personal prayer is a longing and the pursuit of communicating, knowing and experiencing fellowship with God.”

The psalmist expresses it this way: “Thou will make known to me the path of life. In Thy presence is fullness of joy; at Thy right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11)

We are given insight into what the psalmist understands about prayer:

First, prayer means to come into God’s presence. Prayer positions us before God’s presence. We must understand that God is not far from anyone who has a heart to know, love and serve Him. His presence is not only all around us, but He is present to all those who call on Him in faith.

Second, prayer is meant to be a Joyful experience! This is not a drab or dull affair with God. It is not “I’m hating this, but I know I need to pray” attitude. Rather, prayer is a desire, connecting me with my heavenly Father who knows my every longing and loves to have my company. In prayer, I find that, as someone has said, “God is easy to get along with”.

Third, there are true rewards and benefits in prayer. Apart from getting to know God through prayer, the Bible is full of the promises of God for His children. But we have to make those promises our own, claiming through prayer our heavenly inheritance as a child of God. Our Lord Jesus said, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you”(Matthew 7:7).

God is neither senile nor forgetful, sitting in the sky trying to remember His promises. He is full of joy and anticipation that His child will bring Him glory by asking for those things He has provided. He rejoices in giving us those things that we require, just as any parent finds satisfaction in knowing that they are able to fulfill the need and desire of their child. Let’s remember that everything that God does for us is motivated by His love.
