Dear HPN,

It’s September – that’s a big month for television in Hollywood. It launches the new TV Fall Season, the Emmys, and the realization that if you haven’t landed a job on a series by now, it could be many more months of unemployment. So, let’s pray for the people in television!

• Praise God for HPN's new Administrative Assistant, Lisa Petersen
• We thank God for those of you who joined our giving team last month

ANSWERED PRAYERS:

•  Thanks for praying for the nation to embrace "The Great American Bible Challenge" now on the GSN (The Game Show Network). We praise God that it’s quickly become the highest rated show on that network.  What an answer to prayer!! Keep praying for the show’s creators, the contestants and it's host, Jeff Foxworthy.  Read about Jeff Foxworthy and how, as a Christian, he approaches this show.

•  Praise God for HPN's new Administrative Assistant, Lisa Petersen. She is an answer to our prayers for our ministry. Keep praying for her transition and for her to catch the full vision for what she's doing and the eternal difference it's making in our industry and our world.  We’re so excited to have her. If you want to say hi, just email her at lisa@hpnemail.org.

•  We thank God for those of you who joined our giving team last month. Thank you so much. You are an answer to our prayers! We couldn’t do anything without those of you who pray and those of you who give financially. Both are a perfect combination to be used by the Lord - we are so grateful! For more info on joining our team, click HERE.

REQUESTS:

• Sept. 23rd is the TV event of the year – the 64th annual Emmy Awards on ABC. This year it’s hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. Let’s pray for Jimmy to encounter God and for the nominees and the winners, to find their identity in Jesus, not in whether or not they take home an Emmy, for that will only disappoint them. For more info. and a list of all the nominees, click HERE.

• In preparation for the Emmys let’s pray for the 23 new shows on the air and ask God to do a new thing in television.  He can make streams in the wasteland! For a full list of the shows, click HERE.

•  Pray for people watching the new shows this season, that they will be discerning as they support the positive shows, by watching them and talking about them, and choose not to watch the compromising shows.

• Pray for the network executives to get hungry for the Lord so that they will understand what shows are uplifting and what shows are morally destructive. Pray also that God will help them to make wise choices about which ones will stay on and which ones will get cancelled.

• Pray for the actors on television to make wise moral choices and to stand firm in their convictions if asked to do something that they are uncomfortable doing.

• Please pray for Robin Roberts, the news anchor on Good Morning America. On August 31, her mother passed away just hours before she announced that she was taking a leave of absence to deal with M.D.S., a rare and serious blood disorder that affects the body's bone marrow. Robin loves God, so let’s pray for her as she draws closer to Him during this time and that He will heal her body. Her life can be such a witness to her friends, family and her fans. For more info on Robin, click HERE.

•  Pray for the majority of industry professionals who can't find work, can't make their rent and feel overwhelmed with life.  It's more difficult to live and try to work in Hollywood than anyone imagines.  It's a spiritual battleground and just surviving takes so much of people's energy and focus.  Would you pray for the Lord to fill people up with a renewed hope, a sense of purpose and with His peace and joy.  We need to be refreshed to face the struggles of each day.

• HPN wants to help the Producers Guild of America as they help Make-A-Wish Foundation. The PGA is working with the organizers of Make-A-Wish to help fulfill the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. If you are able to help make any of these wishes come true below, contact Karen@hpnemail.org. Otherwise, please pray for these children, that the Lord will give them the desires of their hearts, that the PGA members will come closer to Him as they selflessly help these children, and that we can make a difference in this endeavor as well.

Here are some of the wishes:
1. Jerome | Age 17 | Wishes to be on the TV series Community and meet series actor Ken Jeong.
2. Allison | Age 13 | Wishes to meet the cast of The Hunger Games.
3. Luke | Age 11 | Wishes to be on the set or an extra on a comedy feature.
4. Ryan | Age 12 | Wishes to be on the set of a feature starring Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, Robert Downey Jr., or involving Jeff Kenny.
5. Brett | Age 17 | Wishes to act in any movie.
6. Arika | Age 15 | Wishes to visit the production of any animated/ cartoon movie (nothing scary).
7. Trevor | Age 12 | Wishes to be on the set or an extra of an action movie.
8. Kelsey (from Ireland) | Age 16 | Wishes to act in any movie.
9. Desiree | Age 18 | Wishes to act in a movie or TV show.
•  Prolific Film Producer/Director, Tony Scott, unexpectedly committed suicide on Aug. 19th. It was a shock to our whole industry. Would you pray for Tony’s wife, Donna, their twin 12 year old sons, Frank and Max, Tony’s older brother, filmmaker Ridley Scott, and his other family and friends as they grieve the loss of Tony (age 68).  May the Lord bring them all closer to Him for comfort as they mourn their loved one. For more info click HERE.
•  Pray for HPN member Nini, who boldly appeared on the new “Ricki Lake Show” yesterday (9/14) and talked about being a 40 year old virgin. Please pray that the audience who watched and continue to watch that episode will be inspired to stay virgins until they are married. HPN believes that Nini is leading the way for many Christians in this age to stand confidently and unbending in their faith and their principals and that others will find it appealing, empowering and want to follow. Check out the episode HERE.

REQUESTS FROM HPN MEMBERS & LOCAL CHAPTER DIRECTORS:

•   “Life is just not easy.  Please say a little prayer for me.  It’s one crisis after another. I have several friends in major crises too.  Alice just lost her job here after nine years, Nuri’s marriage is ending in divorce, and many people are in financial disarray.  Life is so hard for so many I people I know.  Not to mention our country. Prayer is the answer.”  Ana

•  Pray for Terri and Barry, HPN’s Local Chapter Directors in San Jose. They have both gone through difficult health issues this year and so we ask the Lord to heal them, encourage them, and make them strong again to keep doing His work, both in San Jose and in Hollywood. Terri creates HPN’s Kids and Teen Prayer Calendars every month and if you haven't seen this great way to pray with your kids for the media, click HERE.

• From Megan Giambroni, HPN’s Local Chapter Director in Ohio: “Light Up L.A., our Canfield, OH chapter has monthly meetings, mostly movie discussion nights the 1st Friday of each month.  Last month we watched 'Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close' and afterwards we had an awesome discussion and prayer time.  The vision for this chapter is to learn, pray, and analyze.  We learn more about popular media, analyze culture from a Christian perspective, and pray for the people who shape American culture.” Let's pray together for Megan, that God continues to give her wisdom in leading her chapter His way as He draws people together in the Ohio Industry. If you’re close to Canfield and want to get involved click HERE. For more info. on local chapters close to you click HERE.

•  HPN member David asked for prayer as his feature documentary, "Hellbound?" is released in selected theatres this month. "Pray that this film will provoke informed discussion and break down barriers within the church that lead to division. Ultimately pray that our response to the film leads us closer to the heart of God. For more on the film click HERE.   David

• From David Hurtado, HPN’s Local Chapter Director in Virginia:  “We’re getting ready to host an “Emmys Prayer Party” on Sept. 23rd. It’s the first of three such events as part of our Hampton Roads HPN chapter: Emmys Prayer Party on 9/23, An Oscar Prayer Party in Feb. and a Tonys Prayer Party next June. And now our HPN branch will meet every Thurs. at noon ET to pray!”  Pray for David and for his events that they may give the film/TV students at Regent University and the friends who participate a new passion to pray for the people, the shows and the issues in TV and film. Pray also that David can encourage them to keep their eyes on Jesus as they pursue their careers. And may these events build community in his area.

• Praise God for the joy of watching the Summer Olympics on TV. It is a gift to us to be able to share in the world’s most unifying sports event up close for 17 days. We must thank God for what is good on television and this is the perfect time to do that.

 • Thank the Lord for a great 2 hour prayer walk around Hollywood last month through the multi-church and ministry event called “Serve the City.” We had 5 teams of prayer walkers on the streets of Hollywood walking and praying for the people, the projects, the stores and the struggles of our famous city and it was miraculous. Thanks to all of you who participated and thanks to Dion at Ecclesia for inviting HPN to co-host the event.

UPDATE:

• Thank you so much for praying with us for the victims, their families and the professionals in Hollywood who were all personally impacted by the tragic shootings in Aurora, Colorado during the Batman screening. Please keep praying. We got an interesting response the day after the shooting from an HPN member who is currently working in Bollywood: “
I am in India at our overseas studio – the Colorado shooting is front page over here – very, very sad. Even with Bollywood (here in Hyderabad it’s “Tollywood” – different language). Just reminded of the effect around the world.” Rob

We wanted to point out one of the many miracles that did happen during the shooting, as a reminder that even though God must allow free will, He does show up and He does walk us through horrible times. An HPN member and industry professional Chloe, told us about her sister, Petra Anderson, who was one of victims in the theatre. As you read her story, will you pray for Petra and the Anderson family and praise God for His reminders that He is still in control of our broken world. Her prayer request is below. http://bstrait.wordpress.com/2012/07/22/a-miracle-inside-the-the-aurora-shooting-one-victims-story/

Here is Chloe’s prayer request for HPN: “We are so incredibly grateful about how much help and support has poured in to our family in the middle of all of this. As for our family, I would really actually appreciate prayers as I try to help my family navigate the media storm that has surrounded this story.  We are trying to learn how to SHOW, not tell how our faith has impacted this whole situation in a way that is winsome and not “holier-than-thou” or Bible thumping, and it’s a tight rope.   I so want to be able to use this opportunity that God has given us, and use it wisely.  Please pray for grace and wisdom as we navigate all this.”    Chloe
If you want more information about a Relief Fund helping the Aurora victims and their families, click HERE.

REQUESTS:

• Let’s pray for the new TV season starting in September! We want shows that lift up the human spirit to do well, we want the people working on all the shows to find Jesus’s unconditional love in their lives, and we want to see God’s presence in the lives of the creators of today’s television. As you pray, check out the schedule of all the new and returning shows this season.

• Please pray for Sylvester Stalone and his family as they grieve the death of his teenage son, Sage. Stalone became a Christian a few years ago and so we ask the Lord to comfort him and give him supernatural strength as he goes through this devastating loss. For more information, click HERE.

• Comcast, the owner of Universal Studios, is looking into a change in the Universal regime and we ask that you pray for the decisions to be wise and positive for Universal. Corporate leaders of major media companies impact our entire nation, because it impacts the TV shows and films that are produced there. Please pray for the leadership of Comcast and of Universal and ask the Lord to fill them with His thoughts, desires, ideas and choices. For more info. click HERE.

•  We are seeing a surge of Bible stories becoming TV shows and films in Hollywood. As a Christian audience, we need to pray, and we also must support these films. Buying a ticket to a film is your vote, sending the message that you like these types of films. Below are seven studio films and network TV shows to pray for. Would you lift up all of the people behind these exciting biblical projects as they are produced in the secular media:

      1)    “God and Kings,” the Moses story directed by Steven Spielberg, to be released in 2013.
      2)     “Moses,” directed by Ridley Scott
      3)     “Goliath” is in Development and will be Directed by Scott Derrickson
      4)     “The Redemption of Cain,” in development with Will Smith, who would make his directorial debut, based on the biblical tale of brothers Cain and Abel.
      5)    “Noah,” starring Russell Crowe and directed by Darren Aronofsky, as they continue production. For more info. on how Aronofsky wants to “honor God” through the film, read:
      6)    “The American Bible Challenge” series that premieres August 23rd on The Game Show Network (GSNTV), hosted by Jeff Foxworthy.
      7)     “The Bible,” by known Reality TV Producer Mark Burnett. Pray for Mark, his wife, Roma Downey (from “Touched By An Angel), and the whole cast and crew of the upcoming 10 part TV series on The History Channel, as they complete production. This epic story has become the most important project Mark and Roma have ever done and we want to pray for them in the process. They need wisdom, strength, favor, focus, creativity, resources and support for this huge endeavor. We also need to watch it when it airs. For more info click HERE.

• Let’s pray for the non-believers who are working on these biblical stories.  May the truth penetrate into their hearts. Please pray for the Christians on these films and TV shows to be Christ-like in all they do and say.  They are being watched. Pray for the audience to support these Bible story films so that the studios and networks see that they are marketable topics and stories!

• Please pray for the Christians across America to join a growing understanding and movement of the need for us to take back the Arts.  God is doing a new thing in the hearts of Christians and we are beginning to realize that we need to not only engage in culture with a confident and creative world view, but we need to create and support great works of art. God speaks to us through the arts. We must support talented artists who are Christians. We can do this by encourage one another to work in the arts, support the arts and artists financially, and attend good movies, great art exhibits, fine television shows, beautiful dance and music concerts, opera, plays and museums. We need to become Patrons of the Arts once again. God is leading us back to impacting culture through being more engaged with the Arts.  HPN encourages you to join His movement through prayer and action. For more information on a great book to read, click HERE. For more information on how you can become more actively involved as a Patron of the Arts, to support and encourage quality programming, without being negative or judgmental, join HPN’s support of a new movement out of Hollywood called As1.

• Pray for comedian, John Fugelsang, who is ready to launch a new TV series that will focus on hypocrites in the “church.” Let’s pray that God will melt John’s heart, and heal the anger from this son of a Franciscan monk and an ex-nun. The show is set to debut in September in the 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. time slot. Fugelsang will mix comedy, politics and pop culture. However, his real focus is on religion and “the selective interpretation of the Bible” he feels conservatives have pushed on the American public. John quotes, “I want to do a show that takes on Chick-Fil-A and the Westboro Baptist Church using the Bible.”  As you pray, get insight into Fugelsang click HERE.

• Let’s pray for both believers and those with no faith in Hollywood, and pray for the personal character of the people here, so that they BECOME who God created them to BE, and not just DO what we think they should.  So, here are TEN QUALITIES that the Lord finds important in all of His creations.  Could you pray that the Lord instills these into the people creating culture across the globe!
1.  Purity
2.  Nobility
3.  Loveliness
4.  Righteousness
5.  Excellence
6.  Goodness
7.  Integrity
8.  Selflessness
9.  Self Control
10.  Truthfulness

• Please pray for HPN’s first donor and dear friend Ava, who is very sick and needs a miracle. She has been battling a very strange and serious health issue for several months.  It has taken its toll on her body – and her spirit.  She has been experiencing a slow deterioration of her body and is not making progress. Ava’s daughter Lisa asked that we all pray in hope and joy.  Ava, Ed and daughters Lisa, Jennifer and Karen know that prayer does matter!

REQUESTS FROM HPN MEMBERS:

•  Let’s pray for the people who are suffering from supporting Chic-Fil-A.  Three friends of HPN have asked for our prayers as they navigate their responses to nasty press about their stand on the issue.  Melissa Reeves (of 'Days of our Lives") and Scott Reeves (of "General Hospital") have recently been crucified in the press when Melissa posted on Twitter that she and her family stopped by Chic-fil-a and then she said "I thank God we live in a country where we have freedom of speech."  May the Lord give Melissa and Scott confidence and favor as they stand firm.  And may the Lord bring people to Him through this.

•  “Could you please pray for a longtime client of mine and friend of 17 years, she's a high profile actress and her husband owns a successful studio in town.  Her parents were burned to death in their home 3 weeks ago in LA. It was a horrific tragedy and the actress and her husband really need support in prayers. They are not believers but are begging for prayers. And I also want to say the right things to comfort them and show them God’s love.  Thanks.”  Howie

A PRAYER FOR HPN:

•  HPN is experiencing and exciting time of growth, opportunities, and open doors. It’s become very clear that Karen and Caren need to spend more time praying with people one–on-one and ministering more to Industry professionals.  The only way we can do this is to hire a part-time Administrative Asst. And we've found someone whom we believe is the perfect person. But we need additional funds to cover her salary.  Would you join with us in asking the Lord to bring us people who understand our need and want to donate funds to specifically help pay for our new Admin.?  We know that this step forward will make a big difference in our ministry and we also know that with God NOTHING is impossible.  Thanks for praying with us.  We can’t wait to see what He has in store!!!!

If you would like to donate to HPN, we would be so grateful to have you as a part of BOTH our praying team and/or giving team. Click HERE and it will lead you to our donation page. And remember that HPN is a non-profit, 501c3 corporation and all donations are tax-deductible.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

• Christian Women in Media (CWIM) is a nationwide organization. HPN Board Member Kathleen Cooke runs the Hollywood branch. The 2012/13 four, quarterly dinner events, are scheduled for Sept. 20th, Nov.1, Feb. 7th, and June 14th. If you want more information on how to get involved or to sign up for the upcoming event on Sept. 20th in Studio City, click HERE.

• For other upcoming events in our Hollywood community, click HERE.

Thanks for praying with us and for us this month:
Karen and Caren

UPDATES:

• Last month we prayed for Alan Horn, the new head of Disney Production. AN HPN member emailed us: “Keep praying for Alan Horn, our new studio head. I am decorating his office with art & am praying for him!!” Let’s keep praying for Alan!

• Last month we prayed for the TV series, “The American Bible Challenge.” We have discovered that one of our members works with the show and praised God for our prayers! Rachel said, “Thank you for praying for the American Bible Challenge...I work for GSN in sales and it has been interesting to go out an "sell' this show to the secular world. Interesting conversations and feedback...appreciate the prayers.” Let’s keep praying for that show, for Rachel, the other people involved and the impact it will continue to have.

PRAISE:

• We praise God for His hand on Broadway and in LA Theater as musicals and shows are addressing the godly messages of love and forgiveness in recent productions such as, 'Leap of Faith' and Tony award winning 'Memphis'. We praise
Him also for the joyful and creative messages in ‘Mary Poppins’ and ‘Peter, the Starcatcher.’ Let’s pray for the creative artists in Theatre as well.

REQUESTS:

• Pray for FATHERS in our industry. On Fathers Day I was moved to pray for the fathers in our industry, who are so often not in town, too busy, or just plain absent. Let’s pray for the fathers who are so needed in the lives of their children, for security, emotional stability and to role model what marriage is supposed to be.

• Pray for Tom Cruise (50), Katie Holmes (33) and their daughter Suri (6), as Tom and Katie get divorced after 6 years of marriage. They were labeled one of the most high-profile celebrity couples ever. We must pray for the Lord to reveal the truth of Scientology to Tom, for that was a contributing factor in the divorce. May all three of them seek Jesus during this time for He is their only Rock. For more details click HERE.

• Let’s pray for Johnny Depp and his girlfriend, Vanessa Paradis, as they split up after being together 14 years. Vanessa is the mother of his two children, Lily Rose, 12 and Jack, 10. As you pray, read this quote from Johnny about being a father: "When I became a dad for the first time, it was like a veil being lifted," said Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp. "I was never horribly self-obsessed or wrapped up in my own weirdness, but when my daughter was born, suddenly there was clarity. I wasn't angry anymore. It was the first purely selfless moment that I had ever experienced. And it was liberating. In that moment, it's like you become something else. The real you is revealed." For more info click HERE.

• Pray for Jay Leno as he was influenced by Louis Zamperini's conversion story. Louis’s conversion to Christianity enabled him to forgive the Japanese military leaders who tortured him during WWII. Jay was truly moved last month by Louis, (who lives in Hollywood) and asked him to tell his whole story on his show! May the Lord use Louis to bring Jay to know Him personally. To hear the story click HERE.

• Pray for Kristen Chenoweth who was hospitalized Wednesday after being hit by falling lighting equipment on set, which knocked her out as she hit the concrete. She was released after and overnight stay and is recovering at home. As a Christian in the industry, pray also for God to protect her, cover her, and give her strength to stay firm and grounded in Him. Ask for favor and continued influence in her work.

• We need prayer for the Christians in America to be wise in how to respond to the Media. A friend of HPN, Eric Metaxas, wrote a disturbing yet poignant article on the problem with Christians’ lack of understanding about the Media and movies. Could you pray for the church to embrace the beauty in films? Read THIS article for more insight.

• The cancellation of the controversial TV series "GCB" happened extremely quickly by ABC. And it reminds us that we don't need to boycott, get angry or revved up about any programming that we think is offensive, inappropriate or destructive. We just have to pray. We got some emails from our membership asking what to do about "getting this show off the air" and our response was, "Just Pray!" When we've put the issue in God's hands, He'll do what's best. Well, God answered your prayers and decided that the show should be cancelled. Let's spread the word that we can't make people behave in a certain way, and we can't make people do certain types of programming, but we can PRAY. When we pray, God responds and then miracles happen! HERE'S the link to the details on the show.

• Pray for the people in Hollywood who are here because they just want to be famous. It's a terrible problem with both Christians and non-believers and it's destructive. HERE is an article from one of our Local Chapter Directors to remind us of this Idol: The human soul was not made for fame.

• Well-known essayist and filmmaker, Nora Ephron, died of leukemia last month. Please pray for her family. Nora wrote, produced and directed many quality films telling stories of the human heart, such as “You’ve Got Mail” and “Julie and Julia,” Let's pray for her husband, screenwriter Nicholas Pileggi, her sons, Jacob and Maxher and her sister Delia, whom Nora sometimes collaborated with. Pray that God will use her death to draw those who knew and loved Nora to Jesus Christ!

• Pray for all of the people behind some exciting upcoming studio films of Bible Stories! The film to pray for this month is NOAH, which is in production at Paramount Pictures and will be released in 2014. May it lead it's crew, cast and audience to read the first hand story in the Bible! Pray also for a pastor friend of HPN’s that is consulting on NOAH. May he have favor with the Director and get a chance to maintain biblical truth and substance in the film. For more info. click HERE.

REQUESTS FROM HPN MEMBERS:

• “I have a prayer request for grace in my trials. I would usually be more specific, but its just one thing after another....if its not permanent housing, it's sleep....I have not slept a solid night in almost a month and its hard enough to do a job interview on one bad night, much less several weeks of ones in a row. Thanks.” -Rene

• Cassandra Hollis, our HPN Atlanta Local Chapter Director, represented HPN at the annual AMTC SHINE event last week and it was a hit. AMTC is a ministry for actors in Murietta, GA and having them include HPN in the conference was so encouraging. This is an answer to our prayer for working with other ministries across the country. Cassandra said: “It was a great experience. The presence of the Lord just reigned throughout the conference. The biggest blessing of all was praying for the performers “on the spot” right there at our HPN table!” HPN thanks Carey Lewis at AMTC for inviting us, and Cassandra at HPN for making it happen. Atlanta is a growing media city and we’re excited to be a part of it! For more info on AMTC click HERE.

• Last week our Florida HPN chapter had a big Arts & Media Conference and it was a hit. They gathered hundreds of people in the media to celebrate their work, network and pray for their industry. Thanks to Gladys Colon for producing that event. The Florida ministry is HERE.

QUOTE OF THE MONTH:
"The saint realizes that it is God who engineers circumstances, consequently there is no whine, but a reckless abandon to Jesus. Never make a principle out of your experience; let God be as original with other people as He is with you." Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest

VERSE OF THE MONTH:
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8

PRAISES:

• Praise God for a WONDERFUL National Day of Prayer in Hollywood! HPN partnered with 5 other LA churches, 5 other entertainment and prayer ministries and hundreds of individuals who came together on the CBS Television sound stage 9 – the home of “Will and Grace” . - We praised and worshiped God and prayed for our nation, our state, our city, our local churches and our entertainment industry. It was so creative with interactive prayer stations, four different worship groups and lots of joy. Thank you to ALL of you who were involved or came. The evening had an eternal impact!

• Praise God for a GREAT Biola Media Conference, also at CBS Television on May 5th. There were great speakers, a good turn- out, lots of friendship connections, both old and new, and a true sense of community. The day ended on a high note with our friend DeVon Franklin, Columbia Creative Exec. and author of “Produced By Faith,” encouraging the group to keep their eyes on Jesus while working in our industry.

• Praise God for our Mothers! May is always Mothers Day Month and we want to take a moment to thank the Lord for our Mothers. Regardless of how good they were as mothers, they brought us into this world, and we now can make the world a better place just because we’re here! Thanks Moms.

UPDATES:

• Many of you have asked how you can get more information on films that are marketed to the Christian community. So we want to give you an update on three friends’ companies who all market films to the church-going audience. Pray for these companies to have continued wisdom and effectiveness in presenting the films they are promoting and for Christians to get information about them, including guides on to how to respond, etc.

REQUESTS:

• Our friend, radio personality Rich Buhler, passed away on May 7th, after a long bout with cancer. We will miss him and his love for life and other people! Please pray for his wife Dianne and his children Krista and Brian, his step children and grand children, as they work through the loss of their dear husband, grandfather and father. Rich was a supportive member of our Christian Hollywood community and loved by all who knew him. For more info. click HERE.

• Pray for the Lord to make Himself known at The Cannes Film Festival (May 16 – 27th, 2012 in Cannes, France.) – one of the largest and most prestigious International Film Festivals of the year. Filmmakers, distributors, actors, directors and marketers gather from around the world to see the new films coming out and to make deals. The top decision-makers in the film world show up to sell and or market their projects. May the Lord show up as well, and rock the participants’ world! For more information on the Festival, click HERE.

• May begins the promotion and release for all of the Summer Blockbuster movies, starting with “Avengers” last week-end. Our country spends billions of dollars on films, giving the state of California the rank of 5th largest GNP among any country around the world! Let’s pray for the people creating the films and the impact that they have on audiences. May the Lord guide our nation’s thoughts and actions as we go to the movies! For more info on the summer films, click HERE.

• Pray for the two HPN K/Carens as we travel to Jakarta Indonesia. We actually left on May 12th and scheduled to have our email sent out to you today! We’ll be back on May 19th and look forward to the Lord opening doors for us as we pray for media at the World Prayer Assembly, and as we pray with children and global entertainment professionals throughout the week. May the Lord give us Divine Appointments so that we can bring His love and encouragement to the people there as we pray for them. For more info, click HERE.

• Would you pray for Roma Downey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roma_Downey) and Mark Burnett (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_Burnett), a husband and wife team who are producing 10 one hour episodes of the entire BIBLE for the History Channel. Both Roma and Mark are passionate about retelling the Bible for the television audience. They are currently in Morocco filming and have a website where we can read their prayers for the project. It's an exciting step to have a cable channel embrace this multi-million dollar project and they have asked for our prayers! To pray with them, click HERE.

REQUESTS FROM HPN MEMBERS:

• Pray for our LA HPN friend Susan who is in South Korea working on the World's Fair for the next couple of months. May she do great work and have an eternal impact on the people she works with and see God in a new way in Korea.

• Pray for our Twin Cities HPN Director, Heidi, as she produces a Guy Penrod Concert, through her new ministry, “Music for the Master.” Heidi is committed to bring Jesus into Minnesota through the arts, and we pray with her as she and her team put this concert together. For more details click HERE.

• Pray for Hilary, who has been working at the Daystar TV, the first Christian network in Texas that is nominated for three Daytime Emmys this year. "Two of the nominations are for a program I produced on the Holocaust, and the program is unlike any other on the subject because Jesus is the center of it." Let's ask the Lord to keep using Hilary to impact the viewers and her co-workers.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

• Don’t miss the events in Hollywood that you can either attend or pray for! One in particular to point out this week is the Actor’s Co-Op show, “Learned Ladies.” Actor’s Co-Op is an incredible theatre company, made up of talented union actors who are also Christians. They constantly win awards for their plays and have been producing powerful theatre for over 20 years. Check them out HERE. Check out all of the upcoming events HERE.

Thanks for praying with us this month and we look forward to being back with an update from Indonesia in June!

Continue to pray for Nicole and her husband Eric as she works and ministers in the modeling community. This month we praise God for a recent ex-Victoria’s Secret model Kylie Bisutti and her husband Mike, and her choice to honor the Lord by not modeling for Victoria Secret any longer. Keep praying for Nicole and Kylie as they seek Him and serve as role models for young girls all over the world. For Kylie’s story click HERE.

We're still praying for more participants to join us on the call, however! Thanks for your prayers for us” - Cassandra

UPDATES:

• It’s time for the OSCARS! Please pray for the producers, celebrities, studio executives, writers, directors, financiers and crews of all the films nominated for this year’s Academy Awards. Hosted for the 9th time by Billy Crystal, this year’s Oscars are airing on Sunday, February 26th at 5pm PST on ABC, Quite a few of this years’ films celebrate stories of faith, truth, hope and redemption. This is the biggest day of the year to pray for the Hollywood Film business!! For more information on the show and the nominees, click HERE.

REQUESTS:

"Please pray for the family, friends and fans of Whitney Houston, who passed away this past Saturday at the age of 48.  Whitney had struggled with substance abuse for many years on and off and the day before the Grammy's it became too much.  Whitney, who grew up singing her her church, sang her last song, Thursday night at a club.  She got up and for just under a minute, sang "Jesus Loves Me."  Two days later she was gone.  May we lift up those closest to her and those who loved her and ask the Lord to point them to Him in their grief.  The rollercoaster life of great fame and then no work became too much for her, as happens so often with celebrities all over the world. For more info, click HERE.

• This past Sunday, Feb. 12th was the 54th annual Grammys! It’s the evening when the world celebrates America’s leading songwriters, lyricists and musicians at its televised awards ceremony. Please pray for the musicians who won awards, and now wonder if that’s all there is. Please pray for those who didn’t win and wonder if they have any significance. This is the most difficult night for artists in the music world, just like the Oscar’s is the most difficult night for actors in the film world. They all need our prayers to discover God’s love, His comfort, and their true identity in Him. For the results of the evening, click HERE.

• A new one hour TV Pilot about the Bible is now in production on GSN - the Game Show Network. It is entitled “The American Bible Challenge.” Let’s pray for Producers Tom Forman and Michael Davies (Executive producer of "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire") as they create this show, “celebrating the Bible in our society and culture.” The contestants play to earn money to support their faith communities!   May the show represent positive, intelligent Christians and reflect the truth and beauty of the Bible. For more information on the show, click HERE. To learn what a TV Pilot is, click HERE.

• Please pray for the nation’s Media and Entertainment industry on Sunday, February 26th – the day of the Oscars! Would you join us in praying for God’s blessing on Mastermedia International’s call to begin an annual, national prayer movement to pray on the day of the Academy Awards for the people, projects and the issues coming out of Hollywood that impact the world? You could start it at your church! One idea is to ask your pastor to commission the artists in your church as prophets in our culture, and to bless and encourage artists to seek God as they pursue their career in arts, news media and entertainment. For more ideas on ways to pray that day, click HERE.

• Pray that Christians in Hollywood will find strength in the Lord, to withstand the pressure, competition, loneliness, temptation to compromise, and the frustration from trying to make a living as a creative person in Hollywood. We believe that Hollywood is not only the most influential mission field, but it is also one of the most difficult marketplace work environments. An HPN member published an article describing her life as a young actress in Hollywood. Would you pray for Grace and other young entertainment professionals as you read THIS article?

• Let’s pray for these people to find the unconditional love of Jesus and that He will transform their hearts and their lives this Valentines Day:

              • Liam Neeson needs our prayers as he struggles with his faith that got shaken in 2009 when his wife died unexpectedly in a skiing accident. He is now even considering becoming a Muslim. Read more HERE.
              • Rich Ross, Chairman of Walt Disney Studios, since 2009, is leading the world’s most famous movie studio at a time where they are in production with the least number of feature films in decades. May the Lord reveal Himself as the God of Love, to Mr. Ross. Read all about him HERE.
              • McCauley Culkin, the famous star of the “Home Alone” series and also known for suing his parents for spending all of his millions, is now 31 and not looking well. He has a sad past, and unhappy story and needs to experience the powerful love of Jesus in his life. Read more HERE.

• Pray for the couples and marriages in Hollywood and ask God to fill them up and transform them with His love: Angelina and Brad, David and Victoria Beckham and Will and Jada Pinkett Smith. This month’s HPN Teen Prayer Calendar has these and other couples listed HERE.

• Please pray Mary and Dieter Boy as they produce the “Faith in Film Lounge”during the 62nd Berlin Film Festival, "Berlinale," on Wednesday, Feb. 15th in the Sony Center, Berlin. It’s open to all in the Film Industry who are visiting the “Berlinale.” For more info., email: m.a.bochert@gmx.de. The “Berlinale” is the world's largest film festival, taking place Feb. 9-19, 2012. It is eleven days of films, films, more films and prizes!  Our HPN LCDs are actively involved. May the Lord bless their efforts and give them great strength, vision and fruitfulness during this time. For details click HERE.

•  Praise God for two dear friends of HPN who are celebrating their mile stone birthdays:  Our angel Ava, on Feb. 1st, who was the sole supporter of the first five Hollywood ministries, along with other visionary giving starting 25 years ago. She has had more impact on our industry than any other single person! Also, Bob Yerkes, on Feb. 11th, who is celebrating 65 years of being a stuntman in show business while impacting hundreds of people’s lives!  Happy Birthday to both of you and we praise God for your faithfulness in Hollywood and your relentless and impactful Christian walks!

UPDATES:

• There are now two established houses of prayer in Hollywood – all within the last year.  Radiance International opened this past summer, just down the street from HPN. And, Hollywood House of Prayer is celebrating their one-year anniversary of their ministry this month.  It is so exciting to see more people committing to pray in this city and for this industry. If you are a local, be sure to come and pray with us at HPN, at Radiance Intl., or the HHOP. Let’s keep praying for more answered prayers in Hollywood. God is doing great things here!

REQUESTS:

• The 69th annual Golden Globes is tonight, Sunday, Jan. 15th. Brought to us by the Hollywood Foreign Press and hosted again this year by the controversial British comedian, Ricky Gervais, this televised event is second only to The Academy Awards, and it sets the pace for which films may win an Oscar by it’s outcome each year. Would you pray for the winners and the losers, that they find their identity in Jesus, that they not get their confidence from what awards they win or lose, and that they get introduced to their creator who loves them just as they are. For more info on the Gold Globes, click HERE.

• This is Oscar season! January 24th is the day that Jennifer Lawrence will announce this year’s Oscar nominations. Then February 26th is the 84th Academy Awards, hosted by Billy Crystal. Please pray for this difficult and stressful time of year. It’s when everyone on both sides of the camera are most vulnerable as they see if they are recognized for their work. Some even believe it’s the time they find out how much they’re going to work again! May the Lord fill their hearts with His purpose, love, peace and confidence. For more information about one of the biggest days of the year in Hollywood, click HERE.

• Mastermedia Intl. ministry has called Sunday, February 26th a day for the nation to pray for the Media and Entertainment Industry. Would you join all of us in praying for the people, the projects and the issues that impact the world, all coming out of Hollywood, on that day? One idea is to ask your pastor to commission the artists in your church as prophets in our culture that day, and to encourage artists to seek God as they pursue their career in arts, media and entertainment. For more ideas on ways to pray that day, click HERE.

• Pray for model Nicole Weider, who became a Christian after a Victoria’s Secret photo shoot and now commits her life to being a positive role model to young girls hoping to make it in the industry. Pray that the Lord gives her favor as a model and that she makes an eternal impact on everyone she works with and the public who watches her life choices. To find out more, read this article about her life.

• Pray for both Katy Perry and Russell Brand as they end their 14 month marriage. In many ways it is more of a curse than a blessing to be a celebrity and they and their families need our prayers as they go through this heart breaking time. Let’s pray for them both to experience the unconditional love, peace and healing of Jesus.

• The Hollywood Reporter published a list of the top 5 celebrity philanthropists.  #1 is Lady Gaga, #2 is Justin Bieber, #3-5 are George Clooney, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, and Leonardo DeCaprio. Let's pray for these generous people and ask the Lord to encourage them in their giving. For details click HERE. Let’s also pray for more Hollywood celebrities to become role models, especially for young people in our country. Celebrity football player and Christian Tim Tebow inspires others with his huge heart. To read about Tim click HERE.

• Pray for peace and comfort for the friends and family of Scotty Dugan, a member of our Christian Hollywood community who passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 21st. Scotty was a godly man, former associate international editor of The Hollywood Reporter and head of Dugan & Story PR. He died while traveling to the funeral of John Atterberry, the music executive and film producer who was killed in the Dec. 9th shooting in Hollywood whom we prayed about last month. If you’re local and need info on Scotty’s memorial service click HERE.

REQUESTS FROM HPN MEMBERS:

In March, 2012, Chosen People Ministries will be launching two initiatives in the Los Angeles area to share the Gospel with the Jewish people and to also equip the local church for Jewish evangelism - and your prayers are greatly needed! They have a heart for the Jewish people in Hollywood and want to invite our community to join them. The first initiative is the Israel, the Church, and the Middle East Crisis conference hosted at Biola University on March 23-24th.  For more details please visit www.chosenpeople.com/conference. The other initiative is a month-long Isaiah 53 Evangelistic Campaign. To request the free book Isaiah 53 – Explained, go to www.Isaiah53.com. Will you pray for their work and for the wonderful Jewish people in Hollywood who don’t yet know the Good News of Jesus, their Messiah?            Marion

• Pray for former agent and author Victorya Rogers, her husband Will and their children as they recover from losing their home over Christmas after a burglar broke in, stole what he wanted and then set their house on fire. There were out of town and couldn’t get back for days to see the severe loss and yet they have kept their eyes on the Lord. Their prayer requests are to remember that God always carries us through everything and that they have lost memories, personal treasures, clothes, pictures, etc., yet to remember it’s only stuff! THANK GOD FOR OUR LOCAL CHAPTER DIRECTORS (These 7 represent the 60+ HPN chapters around the world):

Peggy Buzzard, Airdrie, Canada – “I would like prayer for more opportunities to share HPN's vision and through that more people to change the way they talk about Hollywood professionals, a shift from gossip to prayer.”

• Zach & Naomi Baliva, Rome, Italy –  “We've been asked by a local church to start discussions about teaching a film program or leading a movie discussion group for their young 20s age crowd. Pray for us as we reach out and begin this!”

Atlanta_logo.jpg
• Cassandra Hollis, Atlanta, GA – “Atlanta and the entire state of Georgia is booming with TV and film production. Please pray that God will continue to strategically place Christians in positions in front of and behind the camera to be the light of Christ on set and beyond. Our prayer for Georgia is that God will lift up a standard and that satan will not have a stronghold on the productions made here or anywhere.”

• Samantha Penhale, Omaha, NE – “Pray this over the Omaha Chapter. I will live a God-focused life and pursue intentional community with people who share my passion for restoring the arts to the Kingdom of God, and helping people mature in Christ, in such a way that my time, finances, gifts and relationships reflect these priorities.”

GIVE THANKS:

• Let’s thank God for screener season. This is the time of year where members of all of the Unions, Guilds and Academies start receiving DVD’s in the mail of this past year’s films. These are the films that the studios want to be nominated for Academy and Guild awards. We all love this time as free movies come pouring into our homes. But we ask for your prayers as voting members choose what they believe are the best films, actors, directors, costumers, writers, art directors, editors, etc. etc. May the Lord give the voters wisdom and discernment in their choices, as they impact the culture and the careers of the professionals through their decisions. For more info on screeners, click HERE.
Theme_Parks_copy.jpg
• Would you thank God for the people who work at Theme Parks across the world! The employees at Universal Studios, Disneyland, Knotts Berry Farm, Legoland and other Amusement Parks across the globe, have worked incredibly long hours all through October because of their additional Halloween events.  The staff runs the regular theme park during the day and these extra events on the weekends. Many people are exhausted heading into the next peak season of holidays, and don't get a break until after the first of the year. Theme park entertainment involves every creative job from technical people to performers and they are often thankless jobs.

• Thank the Lord for Christians who are producing independent films.  We thank God for Sean, John, Steve, Allen and other independent filmmakers who pour their hearts and souls into their projects and then trust God that the world can be a little better place because of them.

• Thank the Lord that some parts of the business are doing well. As film revenues drop at most studios and more people are being laid off, Walt Disney posted a 30% boost in last quarter’s net profits, due to their TV channels and Theme Parks. For more information, click HERE.

• We thank God for creative people who also use their art to reach out to others! Two creative people, Steve and Kristen, use art, primarily poetry and photographs, to give hope to the lost in Hollywood. Would you pray for them as you check out their ministry Hope Thru Art on facebook.

• Let’s thank God that TV can be used for such good! The November 3rd episode of "Bones" was dedicated to Emily Maki, a 14-year-old girl, who recently died following a lengthy illness.  She is the daughter of Greg Maki who works with HPN member David Endres in Kenosha, Wisconsin. A staff writer is a friend of the Maki family and learned that "Bones" was Emily's favorite television show, so he asked the Producers to dedicate that episode to her.”

• Thank God for the gift of entertainment. A new live Cirque du Soleil show called “IRIS” is playing at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood. It’s an incredible celebration of the history of film, told through the French Canadian circus acrobats of Cirque du Soleil. Each breathtaking moment reminds the audience that God finds great joy in the performing arts.   We also thank God for Kristen, a generous HPN member who is offering discounted tickets to “IRIS” through January 22nd. To save 20% off select performances, just click on: cirquedusoleil.com/iris Or use promo code CHURCH HERE.

November_Pic_copy.jpg• Thank God for Christians who have a full understanding of how important Hollywood is to Him. HPN member Ginger Kolbaba wrote a great blog on the entertainment industry and HPN. Why don't you support her and her passion for praying for Hollywood by clicking HERE.

• Thank the Lord for his miraculous healing hand.  Thank him that He has his hand on Lee, an HPN member and agent, who has just begun chemo treatments for his brain cancer.  We look forward to how God is going to turn this into good for Lee and his wife, who both love Him and are called according to His purposes.

• Thank God that Justin Bieber is a Christian. With all of the controversial press about the 17 year old Rock Star, Justin’s latest album hit #1 in the Billboard Chart and it lifts up the name of Jesus. Let’s be praying for Justin and his mom Pattie, and asking that they keep their eyes on the Lord and turn to Him for every decision they make and every relationship they’re in. For more info on Justin click HERE.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

This Thursday, Nov. 17th HPN is partnering with Pray 4 California and Hollywood Presbyterian Church to host a prayer walk around Hollywood from 7-9pm. Would you pray with us, if you’re out of town, or join us if you’re in LA as we ask the Lord to heal this city and all the people in it! For more info. click HERE.

• Thanksgiving is Thursday, Nov. 25th. Be sure to spend time with your family and friends.   Go out of your way to thank people for being in your life and thanking our God for all of His gifts, blessings, encouragement, opportunities, food, housing, clothes and even the air that we breath. And why don’t you take time to help someone less fortunate than you that day. If you’re in LA, join some of us at the Santa Monica Civic Center as we serve the homeless with blankets, clothes, medical help, haircuts and a great meal. For more info and to sign up click HERE.

images_1.jpgDear HPN Pray-ers,

We had a great month in September and look forward to another wonderful month coming up. God is so faithful and He has been doing exciting things in our industry and especially in our community. We want to focus on praising Him this month. Let’s pray!

SUMMARY:

• We praise God for an amazing collaborative Friend/Fund Raising evening
• Praise God for Robert Downey Jr. asking his peers to forgive Mel Gibson
• Keep praying for Justin Bieber and his mom Pattie as they tour South America
• Pray for Laurene Powell Jobs and her four children, after the loss of Steve Jobs
• Pray for Gerard Butler as Sam Childers in "MACHINE GUN PREACHER"
• Pray for Oprah Winfrey and Rosie O’Donnell as they start their new TV ventures
• Pray for the people at the film studios who don’t have an ethical or moral compass
• Pray for the growing interest in Hollywood for "inspirational” films
• Let’s pray for our kids who mass consume all forms of entertainment
• Pray for the growth and eternal effectiveness of the new 24/7 Prayer Room
• Pray for Seth, who is starting a church for people in Adult entertainment
• "The Lord has really put Britney Spears on my heart lately. Please pray for her.”

PRAISES:

• On Thurs., Oct. 6th we had the most miraculous gathering of Christian media professionals and entertainment ministry supporters. This was a collaborative Friend and Fund Raising effort to unify and grow the entertainment ministries, build vision for what God is doing in Hollywood, and raise funds for our non-profit efforts. We PRAISE GOD for that evening. It was full of miracles, amazing stories, tears, new friendships, renewed vision and great hope for the future. Our fabulous emcee, Phil Cooke, wrote an article about the evening and the next day it was picked up by Charisma News. Click HERE to hear his thoughts on the wonderful event.
Robert_Downey_Jr_1.jpg
•  Praise God for forgiveness.  A beautiful thing happened last night at the American Cinematheque Awards that we have to praise God for.  Robert Downey Jr. was honored last night at the 25th annual awards and he asked Mel Gibson to present the award.  He said, “When I couldn’t get sober, Mel told me not to give up hope and encouraged me to find my faith…”  Then he ended with: “…I would ask that you join me, unless you are completely without sin…, in forgiving my friend his trespasses and offering him the same clean slate you have me..”  Let’s start by forgiving both Mel and Robert for any poor choices they’ve made through the years and then pray that the forgiveness Robert asked for Mel from his peers, would make an eternal difference in both of their lives, in the lives of the industry professionals, and with the public.  This is an exciting public moment in our mission field!  Forgiveness is a powerful thing!  For the full story click HERE.

UPDATES:

• Keep praying for Justin Bieber and his mom Pattie as they tour South America this month. And a new book by award-winning author David Buckna explores Justin’s faith as he tours as the world’s most popular teenager. It’s called “Belieber! Fame, Faith and the Heart of Justin Bieber” For more information click HERE.

REQUESTS:

• Pray for Laurene Powell Jobs and her four children, after the loss of her husband, the world's media iCon, Steve Jobs, at the age of 56. It’s such a reminder that a man can have everything the world has to offer and that still doesn’t guarantee any kind of shield or protection from disease or death. Please pray that the rest of his family moves away from Steve’s practice of Zen Buddhism to find the truth of Jesus for their lives.  For more information on his religious beliefs click HERE.

• Pray for Gerard Butler whose character, Sam Childers, experienced a conversion experience in "MACHINE GUN PREACHER" - The film is the true story of Childers, an ex-con, drug addict who was in & out of jail until he got saved. Film shows him receiving Jesus in church & getting baptized. Then portrays the ripple of effect of other lives being transformed. The film is rated ‘R’ for violence but it captures a powerful story of redemption and hope. For more info. click HERE.

• Pray for Oprah Winfrey and Rosie O’Donnell as they start their new TV ventures. Oprah just launched her new OWN network and her two new talk shows are Rosie O’Donnell’s daily show, The Rosie Show and Oprah’s weekly 8pm show, Oprah’s Lifeclass. Both of these women have tremendous influence on our culture. May the Lord touch their hearts so that they will exude His truths, His love and His world view. For more info on OWN, click HERE.
images-2.jpg
• Please pray for the hearts of the people at the film studios who don’t have an ethical or moral compass. Most people have no idea how they’re hurting others with their immoral practices. As you pray, don’t settle for being angry over the injustices, but seek to understand that our mission field is full of spiritually and emotional broken people who don’t know the Lord and therefore have no moral foundation. Many are desperate, scared and insecure which results in lies, illicit behavior and unethical decisions. An article just came out claiming that the Warner Bros. accounting office announced that through “Insane Studio Accounting: Warner Bros Claims $167 Million Loss Over Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix".

• Pray for the growing interest in Hollywood for "inspirational” or “faith-based" films. An Oct. 2nd LA Times article entitled "Hollywood shines a light on the spiritual" discusses the growing number of films that are coming out with themes of faith in them. Maybe this is just a phase or maybe it's a trend, but regardless, let's pray for the Studio Executives to see the benefit of producing films that are "excellent in their craft, and have depth of spirit." Some films mentioned in the article are: "Soul Surfer," "Seven Days in Utopia," "Higher Ground," "Machine Gun Preacher," The Blind Side," and "The Way." May the professionals' hearts be touched as they work on these films and may watching them inspire the audience.
Oct_2011_kids.jpg
• Let’s pray for the kids in our country, who mass consume films, TV shows, music, video games and YouTube. They don’t understand how it all impacts their world view. Let’s encourage young people to pray for the people they love to watch or listen to in entertainment. You can even encourage them to pray for the top performers in their world each month through our HPN KIDS and TEEN Prayer Calendars. To download a new calendar each month, click HERE.

• Pray with us for the growth and eternal effectiveness of the new 24/7 Prayer Room called Radiance International, set right in the heart of Hollywood, just down the street from HPN! Right on the corner of Sunset and Gower, Radiance offers round the clock prayer and worship for the people, the property, the projects and the profound impact of Hollywood. Let’s also pray for it’s leader, Jonathan Ngai, as he works with other Hollywood leaders to offer his place as a place of refuge, healing, encouragement and prayer. For more information click HERE.

REQUESTS FROM HPN MEMBERS:

• Please pray for Seth, who is starting a church for people who work in the adult entertainment industry. May the Lord give him wisdom, favor and impact on the porn industry and all the people in it, through his love for Jesus and his church in the midst of the darkness. May they find freedom from their bondage, because hearing the truth will set them free!

• "The Lord has really put Britney Spears on my heart lately, and I would like to request that we pray for her this month. Her life seems to be pretty stable right now compared to the last few years, but things are not always the same on the inside as they appear to be on the outside. My heart has really been breaking for her these past few days, so I took some time to look at some of her interviews from 2001 through 2011. I was struck by the contrast between what a beautiful, sweet, innocent and promising young girl she was when she was starting out compared to the brokenhearted, hurting young woman with a prematurely aged spirit she has become. When her career began, she was an open hearted girl with a big dream who wanted to succeed on the outside, but who, deep down, really only wanted to be loved: deeply, unconditionally, and eternally.” Mary

TIP OF THE MONTH:

QUOTE OF THE MONTH:
“I will have nothing to do with a God who cares only occasionally. I need a God who is with us always, everywhere, in the deepest depths as well as the highest heights. It is when things go wrong, when good things do not happen, when our prayers seem to have been lost, that God is most present. We do not need the sheltering wings when things go smoothly. We are closest to God in the darkness, stumbling along blindly.”  ~Madeleine L'Engle

VERSE OF THE MONTH:
“This, then, is how you should pray:  “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’”   Matthew 6:9-13

PRAISES:

• Praise God for the fabulous Sept. 8th Quarterly HPN Prayer and Praise night. We partnered with Radiance International, a new 24/7 prayer room in Hollywood and focused our prayers on industry families with professional kids. It was awesome. The prayer was powerful and we heard back that it was life-changing for so many. There is even a new group coming out of that evening, connecting the Christian families on a more regular basis. Thank you for your prayers and keep praising God for all that He’s doing here!

UPDATES:

•  Oct. 6th is the first ever, collaborative friend/fund raiser for three Hollywood ministries. Would you continue to join us in praying that the Lord will use it to expand our vision, build our team of volunteers and donors, and that it will bring more strength and unity to our community.

• In our ongoing commitment to pray for Justin Bieber, this month let’s pray for him and Selena Gomez and their relationship! Justin is 17 and Selena is 19 and we want to ask the Lord to give them wisdom and discernment in all of their choices.

PRAYER REQUESTS:

Steve_Jobs.jpg• Let’s pray for Steve Jobs, who just resigned as CEO of Apple on August 24th, due to his struggle with pancreatic cancer. Steve was born to an unwed mother and adopted by Clara and Paul Jobs in 1955. He was a college dropout when he founded Apple. By the age of 25, Steve had Apple go public and he became an instant millionaire. Now, 31 years later, his successor Tim Cook, who has stepped in for Jobs during his past leave of absences, takes the helm. Let’s ask the Lord to bring both men closer to Him as Steve battles cancer and Tim steps into leadership at Apple; the company that has more available cash than our Federal Government!

• The Toronto International Film Festival, or TIFF, opened this year on Sept. 8th and runs 10 days, through 9/18. Many of our leading American stars, directors, producers and film executives are there to promote their films, try to get distribution or connect with other filmmakers with the hope of work! Would you pray that God will be present at the event venues, in conversations and that He will guide the decisions that are being made? These decisions will all impact our future movie-going experiences. The Festival’s mission statement is “To transform the way people see the world.” Shouldn’t followers of Christ have that mission statement? For more info go HERE.

• Pray for the damage that runaway production has caused on our film industry and the LA based filmmakers. Runaway production is a term for film and TV productions that have been shot overseas, instead of in America, in order to save money. America, and especially Los Angeles, have lost millions of dollars of income, location fees, production costs and jobs in the past decades, because of the need to cut production expenses by shooting overseas. Would you pray that we can begin to start re-building our American and Los Angeles productions so that more of our local community can earn a living again in their area of expertise?  For more info. on Runaway Production, click HERE.

• Let’s pray for the new 2011-2012 TV season that starts this week. This year let’s look at the new line-up of shows as an opportunity to pray into the lives of all of the people involved with each series and movie, on each network, both in front of and behind the camera. These people need the power, wisdom and love of the Lord and most of them don’t know it. Our prayers can make an eternal difference in their lives, their relationships and their work. For a list of the new TV schedule, click HERE.
prayer_sticker.jpg• HPN offers “REMOTE PRAYER STICKERS” that can be stuck on the front of your TV Remote. It’s a reminder to pray for the people on the shows that you’re watching as you channel surf or turn ON and OFF your TV. Let us send you a free sticker by emailing Caren@hpnemail.org so that you can join us in praying remotely for the TV professionals. Click HERE to learn more about our Remote Prayer Stickers.

• Please start praying for the people involved in the 2012 Academy Awards (On Feb. 26, ’12). Our industry is revving up with more screenings and publicity for the films that they hope will be nominated for an Oscar. And just recently Eddie Murphy was chosen to host this year’s televised ceremony. Would you pray for Eddie, that he can be transformed from the inside out, to reflect the love, hope, peace, purity and salvation of God as he prepares for this huge event. For more info on the event click HERE.

•  Pray for two HPN members, Melissa and Jessica, who are on the writing staff of the hit TV series, "Hawaii Five-0."  Pray for them to be salt and light, to be incredible writers, friends, co-workers, and ambassadors for Christ, as they use their gifts and talents as staff writers. Hawaii Five-0 returns Monday, Sept. 19 at 10/9c on CBS. Click HERE for more info on this season of Hawaii Five-O.

•  Please pray for change in the way the press and the public treat celebrities. We, at HPN, want to honor the people here, regardless of their status, fame, money, beliefs or success. May we be the first ones to not exploit, gossip about or judge anyone in Hollywood, especially the celebrities who have the most difficult lives. Here is an exploitive news blurb that broke our hearts:  "After J. Lo and
Marc Anthony's super split (a new term we've coined for major celebrity breakups ), we've all been waiting breathlessly (breathlessly!) to see who Jenny from the Block would ensnare next." May we not join the insensitive buzz about an entertainment star, but pray for them instead, as God’s children who feel deeply. J.Lo and Marc are hurting, broken and wanting privacy like the rest of us do during painful experiences. May we pray for them, and ask the Lord to do a miraculous work in their hearts as He protects them from stabs from the press.

• Pray for the recipients of The HUMANITAS awards tomorrow, 9/16. The Humanitas Prize was created 37 years ago to honor television and film writers for telling stories which truly and deeply explore the human experience in a way that both entertains and enlightens. It is one of the secular awards ceremonies that has a heart of goodness, truth and inspiration. Let’s pray for this year’s winners, that the award encourages them to continue to seek truth and beauty in their work and lives.

•  Pray for the winners, losers and all involved, behind the scenes and in front of the camera in this Sunday's Primetime  63rd annual Emmy Awards, 9/18.  The Awards program will air live on FOX TV from the Nokia Theatre LA LIVE.  This
year's awards are hosted by Jane Lynch, from GLEE! and it involves everyone connected with Primetime Television.  What a great opportunity to pray for all of the stars, directors, writers, producers, crew and staff of the world's most watched medium - Television.  Would you ask the Lord to touch these people's hearts and lives in a miraculous way and they they will all experience His love, joy, peace, healing, hope and salvation.  For more info on the show, click HERE.

REQUESTS FROM HPN MEMBERS:

• Three writers and friends of HPN, Marion Wells, Connie Fleishauer, and Dottie Adams have found a nitch with their new book, “The Cat Lover's Devotional,” in bringing the truth of the Gospel to people through stories of their pets. They have asked us to pray for them. Would you pray that the Lord will use them to move readers closer to Jesus who read this Devotional. God uses the arts in so many creative ways. For more info click HERE.

• HPN member Barbara asked us to pray for her as she launches the Galileo Studio at Azusa Pacific University. APU has announced the opening of the new Galileo Studio - a production facility in Azusa that is run by believers and available for production. Let’s pray that this soundstage and green screen room can bring in people from all over the industry and that they will be treated with love, respect from servant hearts. For more information check out - http://www.apu.edu/clas/galileofilmstudio/

gladiolibridal.jpg• We praise God for our Jewish friend, Earl who embraced his Messiah last month
• We praise God for Burt Swardstrom, who passed away last month

• “My daughter, a producer in Hollywood, just got nominated for an Emmy…”
• Could you do us a favor and show your support for HPN on a ministry link…
• Thursday, Sept. 8th is HPN’s Quarterly Prayer and Praise night
• HPN is one of three ministries involved in a collaborative fund/friend raiser

PRAISES:

• We praise God for lovingly leading our Jewish friend, dancer/choreographer Earl to embrace his Messiah!!! Earl has been prayed for by many friends and family members and in God’s perfect timing, he became a Messianic Jew last month. We are sooooo excited and thankful, and he is very happy!

• We praise God for Burt Swardstrom, who passed away last month after a long and fruitful life. He was a wonderful, faithful prayer warrior in our Christian entertainment community. As a retired Pastor, he became head of prayer for MasterMedia Intl. and then spent the last couple of years leading prayer groups for the people in our creative and business entertainment community. We will miss Burt very much but we know that his life and prayers made an eternal difference in all of our lives and in our industry.

comiccon_logo.gifUPDATE:

• The world’s largest entertainment convention, Comic Con, just completed it’s 42nd annual gathering (July 21 – 14, 2011) at the San Diego Convention Center where over 125,000 attendees come together to celebrate comic books, pop culture, graphic novels and current blockbuster movies based on comic books. It’s the most popular event of the year for filmmakers and audiences alike and we want to keep praying for God’s hand on the people who create, market and support today’s pop culture. For more info on Comic Con visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Diego_Comic-Con_International

• Keep praying for Justin Bieber as he and his mom make decisions on their generous giving. One thing he supports is the Save the Children fund that aims to help people in East Africa and Somalia that are in danger from famine. We ask the Lord to continue to use his generosity to make an eternal difference in the world and to encourage his fans to help others as well. For more thoughts from Pattie, click HERE.

REQUESTS:

• It’s the end of the summer blockbuster movie releases and the final four films are battling for box office numbers. Please keep praying for all of the people involved in the summer movies – for their relationships, their personal choices, and that the Lord will open their eyes to their moral and ethical decisions and their belief in Him. As we are called to go to all ends of the earth to share the truth of Jesus, let’s pray for those whose careers impact all ends of the earth. For info on the August films, click HERE.

• Please pray for the family members of Amy Winehouse, English singer/songwriter. Amy’s problems with drug and alcohol abuse, violence, and her self-destructive behaviors were regular tabloid news from 2007 until her death on July 23re, at the age of 27. The cause of her death is “yet unexplained.” Amy is only one in the list of musicians who died of either suicide or unknown causes at the age of 27. That’s why we need to be praying for the salvation of entertainment celebrities, because more often than not, celebrity is a curse, not a blessing. HPN believes that only God was meant to get glory, attention, fame and power, which is why most “men” cannot handle it. Learn more about an organization giving attention to this pattern of early death, “The 27 Club”, click HERE.
Sherri-Shepherd.jpg
• Pray for HPN’s friend Sherri Shepherd in her upcoming wedding to television writer Lamar Sally in this month. Sherri is known as one of the co-hosts of The View, but she’s known in the Christian community as a committed believer who stands firm in her faith, despite any ridicule or challenge. Let’s pray for Sherri and Lamar as they commit their lives to one another, to the Lord, and to her 6-year-old son, Jeffrey. May they be shining lights in our industry! To get to know more about Sherri click HERE.

• Let’s pray for Christians working in Hollywood and for the Lord to strengthen their walk with Him, for His Holy Spirit to make them salt and light in the work place and for their stories to be sold and made into quality films, TV shows, songs, video games, news pieces, etc. And let’s pray for the Christian audience to be slow to judge and quick to pray for these professionals to be encouraged to seek God on their vocational and spiritual journeys. It’s a hard place to live and work here and we need all the prayer and encouragement we can get! Click HERE to read about a new film coming out and how we may respond.

• HPN has found a growing desire among Christians to pray for the Jewish community in Hollywood and for Jews in Hollywood to seek after their Messiah. The industry was begun by immigrant Jews and currently about 80% of entertainment decision-makers are Jewish. However, many of them don’t even believe in God. Let’s pray for the wonderful, creative Jews in our industry to discover how much their Creator loves them and that He has a beautiful plan for them through knowing His Son, their Messiah! Two great books of stories about how some Jewish people have found God, read: “Betrayed” by Stan Telchin and “They Thought for Themselves: Ten Amazing Jews” by Sid Roth. As you pray, remember “Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom.”

REQUESTS FROM HPN MEMBERS:

• Atlanta Local Chapter Director, Cassandra, is a filmmaker and she has asked for us to pray for her as she gets into production on her new film, “A Praying Grandmother: The Helen Baylor Story,” a biopic film about Gospel singer Helen Baylor. Let’s ask the Lord to give Cassandra wisdom, strength, a great team, her needed financing and perseverance as she jumps into this huge project. For more info, check out: www.holyhillproductions.com

• “I pray for the HPN staff, that you would be very aware the spiritual warfare in film and television is huge, because of the obvious global influence.”   Stephen

• “My daughter, a producer in Hollywood, just got nominated for an Emmy! Please pray for her, that the Holy Spirit would intercede and she would give her life to Jesus Christ - so God can do a work in her and through her to glorify His name with the gifts He has given her.” Anne

• Could you do us a favor and show your support for HPN on a ministry link called Giving of Life. They want to help non-profits get more exposure for their ministry by having the registered ministries qualify for a grant that they give through getting VOTES on-line on their site. The more votes, the closer we are to qualifying for their grant. Wild huh? Well, it's legit. So, if you're interested, here's all you do: Click on the site here and then go down to the bottom of our page and VOTE! Thanks so much. Let's see how we do: http://givingoflife.com/browse/hollywood_prayer_network/

UPCOMING EVENTS:

family.jpg• Thursday, Sept. 8th is HPN’s Quarterly Prayer and Praise night. This night is
focused on INDUSTRY FAMILIES. If you are part of a family with an industry professional of any age in the family, then come pray with us and be prayed for by our prayer team. If you have a heart for young professionals or industry families, then please come to pray, and if you just want to praise God and prayer quietly then come as well. We want the evening to be a joyous time of prayer and praise for all the industry families who want to be encouraged by others in the Christian community in Hollywood. For more information click HERE.

•  HPN is one of three ministries involved in a collaborative fund/friend raiser in October. Would you join us in praying that the Lord will use it to expand our vision, build our team of volunteers and donors, and that it will bring more strength and unity into our community.

• For other upcoming events click HERE for the list.

Thanks so much for praying for 10 years! Have a great end of your summer and know that we appreciate you!!

Warmly,
Karen and Caren

For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than human strength.” I Corinthians 1:21-25

July 2011 Newsletter

Dear HPN Pray-ers,

It’s July already and summer is half over. We hope you’re having a wonderful time with your families and friends and July_Flower_copy.jpgthat you are enjoying some of this year’s best summer films! Let’s keep praying for the people who created, produced and distributed all of the summer blockbusters, asking the Lord to touch their hearts and lives. Here are more ways to pray this month:

• There is a new 24/7 Prayer room right in Hollywood
• Don’t miss the upcoming events in our community

PRAISES:

•  We praise God for our 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of HPN!  Can you believe it?  On July of 2001 we were birthed out of the First Presbyterian Church of Hollywood, and 10 years later we are still here, partnering together to minister in Hollywood.  We have seen many incredible changes in Hollywood in the past 10 years and we thank all of you and Hollywood Pres. for allowing us to continue to mobilize prayer for the world’s most influential mission field.  Celebrate with us by inviting other people to join our Network at www.hollywoodprayernetwork.org and come visit Hollywood Pres.  For more info on this historic church, click HERE.

• We praise God for a fabulous Hollywood Prayer Walk this past Saturday as 100 people spread out all over the city and prayed for 2+ hours. We know they made an eternal difference in our city and our industry. We partnered with Californians for Jesus and Ecclesia and it was wonderful. After praying throughout Hollywood we gathered for the evening at Ecclesia and had a great time of praise, testimonies about the day, and enjoyed terrific speakers. God is so faithful and He is doing amazing things in our city. We’re seeing so much more unity, hope, and changed lives!  For more details about the whole day check out:
www.CA4Jesus.blogspot.com. If you are looking for a great church in Hollywood that meets in a movie theatre, check out Ecclesia at: http://www.churchinhollywood.com/

UPDATES:

•
Keep praying for Justin Bieber, who is still on his world tour. He has branched out into selling a line of clothes, perfume and other items. He and his mom continue to ask for our prayers as they make daily choices as to what’s next and best for his career and their personal lives. We want to walk beside them with our prayers for wisdom and discernment. His mom, Pattie, has another short video on her thoughts about Justin and how we can be praying. Click on our HPN site HERE.

• Keep praying for the people who are involved in all of the summer films. From the writers, directors, actors, producers, executives, crews, distributors, and marketing teams, to the agents, managers, publicists and attorneys.  They all need to experience unconditional love, mercy, grace, joy and hope from our God. And our prayers can make that happen! For an update on this month’s opening films, click HERE.

Debby_Ryan_copy.jpg
REQUESTS:

• Pray for HPN member Debby Ryan as she stars in a new Disney Channel series called “Jessie.” This is Debby’s first starring role and we want to pray that she and her family will continue to seek Jesus and navigate Hollywood with wisdom, peace, strength and joy. Pray that Debby can be Christ-like with the executives, writers, cast, crew and her fans as her career grows. Please pray also that her mom, Sandy, will be a solid, loving, Christian support for her daughter. Debby’s prayer is: 1 Chronicles 4:9-11. “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain. And God granted his request.“ Debby tells us about “Jessie” on YouTube HERE.

• Pray for all of the storytellers in Hollywood to have favor, professionalism, wisdom and confidence as they sell their stories in film and television. Ingmar Bergman once said, “Facts go straight to the head, but stories go straight to the heart.” As an example of personal storytelling, HERE's a story of an HPN member who has been sharing his life-changing story in the world of science, Dr. Hugh Ross.

• Yesterday, the nominees were announced for the 2011 Primetime Emmy Awards. Let’s pray for all of the nominees as they wait in great anticipation for what they believe could be the biggest break of their lives. May the Lord show them that though the awards are exciting, they are not what define our worth or value.  What most of us think will fill us up ultimately just leaves us empty, so let’s pray that the TV actors, directors, writers and executives will discern this spiritual truth. The winners will be announced on Sept. 18th on Fox. For more information on the Emmy’s and this year’s host, Jane Lynch, click HERE.

• We need to pray for the editors, researchers, reporters and writers of the two major Entertainment Trade papers, the Hollywood Reporter
and Daily Variety. These people have tremendous power to launch, propel or stall careers by the news they publish about the decision-makers and cultural influencers in our society. They post new projects in development and production, give up-dates on people’s careers, and they cover the business and financial news about studios, production companies, film box office numbers, etc. Most entertainment professionals read these publications like Christians are supposed to read their Bibles. So, let’s pray for the integrity, honesty, wisdom, and hearts of the people behind the scenes at these publications.

Lawyers_copy.jpg
• Let’s pray for some of the most influential power brokers in our industry – the attorneys. Everybody making deals needs one and many of them often manage, or executive produce projects as well. The entertainment law firms hold tremendous, yet quiet force over who makes deals, how much money people make and what projects get green-lighted. Please pray that the attorneys will take responsibility for their power and influence and treat their choices and the people in their lives with integrity, honesty, grace and compassion, and that they can gain the heart of Jesus. For an insightful article on the different types of attorneys in Hollywood and what they do, click on “Power Lawyers 2011” HERE.

HPN Members’ Requests:

•  Dallas HPN Local Chapter wants us to pray for them and chat on their blog: “Thank you for your interest in praying for local artists, as well as those in Hollywood.  We are praying for God's Spirit to guide us in who the Lord desires for us to target in prayer and when to do so.  Prayer DOES make a difference and we greatly appreciate any time you take to go to the Lord on behalf of those in the entertainment industry.  We invite you to share any insight, as well as those God is placing upon your heart to pray for, to please pass those names on to us so that we can add them to our prayer list.  May God richly bless you for your faithfulness."
Please click on the link to our blog for current prayer lists, and don't forget, to save to your "Favorites" and sign up to receive our blog updates.” http://hpn-dallas.blogspot.com/   Chris Knight & Victoria Stephens, Co-Directors, Dallas Chapter, HPN.

• Pray for Gabe and his church, HRock, as they produce their annual Arts Conference in August: PROJECT LIGHT '11.  “Please put us in your prayer newsletter, so that people can be in prayer for us.  This is extremely important, as we are facing some spiritual attacks, leading up to August 5th & 6th.“ Click HERE for more details.

Volunteer_copy.jpg
• HPN needs a volunteer: We have so many people who want to be on our mailing list that we’re behind on entering them into our database. If there is any LA person who would like to volunteer some time to HPN and come into our offices (we’re really fun) to help update our database, you would be a gift from God! Just email Caren at
Caren@hpnemail.org or call her at (323)462-8486 ext. 106. Thanks!

• Our Miami, Florida Chapter is launching an entertainment event on October 15th, 2011. Let’s pray for them to have a successful event in every way. Click HERE for more details.
Thanks Gladys!

• The HPN Omaha local chapter was formed last Fall by Samantha, who expected a slow start as with anything new. They began meeting in the early part of the year, and still only have two attendees. She didn’t expect it to be so tough but as in many Midwest cities, most Christians don’t understand the powerful influence of the media and therefore see no reason to pray. Let’s pray for Samantha and the other Christians across the country who feel isolated in their passion to pray for the people in Hollywood.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

• There is a new 24/7 Prayer room right in Hollywood, on the corner of Gower and Sunset Blvd. Check out: Radiance International, "24/7 Prayer from Hollywood to the Nations" at:
http://www.radianceinternational.org/?page_id=23

• Don’t miss the upcoming events in the Christian Hollywood community. And if you’re having an event, let them Summer.jpgknow and they’ll add it to the site. Click HERE for more information!

Happy July and thanks for praying,

Karen and Caren

QUOTE OF THE MONTH:
“So much is distilled in our tears, not the least of which is wisdom in living life. I have learned that if you follow your tears, you will find your heart. PRAISES:

• Praise God for our awesome growing community of intercessors outside Hollywood uniting with Christian professionals inside Hollywood through prayer. This month one of our HPN intercessors felt led to help a struggling industry pro, so we connected her with a writer who paid his rent! It’s a beautiful miracle that encouraged so many people! Thank you God for using people to strengthen our community of artists!

REQUESTS:

• HPN’s Incognito Prayer team willingly prays for Hollywood cultural influencers and decision-makers they have never met. We want to encourage you to join them in praying for people in the entertainment industry. Occasionally, we at HPN get asked – why should we pray for someone in Hollywood who we have never met? Click HERE to find out!
Prayer1.jpg
• Pray for Christians in Hollywood, asking the Lord to give them strength, to keep their walk strong with Him, to keep building a powerful community of believers for prayer, accountability, fellowship and encouragement. Ask Him also to enable Christians to share their faith as salt and light in this mission field.

• Pray for the salvation of decision-makers and cultural influencers in the entertainment industry, knowing they need Him desperately. When their hearts change, the content they create will also change.  We can’t make people act like Christians, we can pray that the Lord will lead them to salvation.

• As the new Fall TV shows are starting to be written, let’s pray for the most powerful people in TV production – the Show Runners – the people who run the TV shows and have creative control of their series. To learn more about Show Runners click HERE. Women are not as well represented as men in television, so, would you pray with us for this season’s top women Show Runners. They are listed HERE. May they find the Lord and His heart, as they try to balance all of their roles, including those who are wives and mothers, while influencing the world through the choices they make on their TV shows.

• Pray for a friend of HPN’s, DeVon Franklin, who is a successful studio executive and author of the new book, “Produced By Faith,” how to navigate a career in the business without compromising your Christian values.  Please ask the Lord to continue using DeVon to bless and encourage the people around him, while influencing the content of the films coming out of his studio. For more info, click HERE.

• Pray for two of our HPN Board members, the Cookes, who will be teaching acting and speaking at the National India Young Creative Leaders Conference in Delhi and Chennai in July. They are part of the growing influence that Christians in our community are having around the globe!

• Pray for HPN to be effective in gathering prayer warriors from all over the world to pray with us at the World Prayer Assembly in Jakarta, Indonesia in May of 2012. HPN has been invited to lead prayer from there for the global media. May the Lord open the doors, supply the finances and use us to open the eyes of Christians from across the globe to see the importance of praying for the international entertainment and media cultural influencers and decision-makers. For more info click HERE.

REQUESTS FROM HPN MEMBERS:

• From our HPN Local Chapters Directors in Italy: “We've made it safe to Rome! Our son Anthony has already begun to make friends with the neighborhood pets and children...and loves seeing all the Vespas! Please continue to pray as we adjust, build relationships, and learn the language.  Thanks for your prayers!”   Naomi and Zac Baliva

• Pray for HPN Intercessor, Sharon, who has been so faithful to pray for HPN industry pros, and yet is going through a brutal season.  She is having serious financial problems after being laid off from her job, and now has pneumonia. We need our intercessors to be protected, encouraged and taken care of because they are doing a mighty work. Please pray for Sharon and our other intercessors who are going through difficult and discouraging times.

• We praise God for our Hollywood community’s expanding impact on our culture. We know Christians who are impacting all areas of society. Here are three new books to read by some of our Hollywood friends:  (1.) “Jolt” by Phil Cooke HERE, (2.) “Faith of Our Fathers” by Brian Godawa HERE and (3.) “None Wounded, None Missing, All Dead, The Story of Elizabeth Bacon Custer” by Chris Enss and Howard Kazanjian HERE.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

• HPN is partnering with Prayer Surge Now, Ecclesia and other churches and ministries to pray over the city of Hollywood on Saturday, July 9th 2–4pm. PRAISES:

• There were National Day of Prayer gatherings all over the country on May 5th and a few of them were led by HPN members and industry professionals.  HPN’s Minneapolis member, Marcy Grams prayed for the Media in Minnesota, Our Atlanta HPN Local Chapter Director, Cassandra Hollis not only prayed for the media this year at their State Capitol, but she and the whole HPN Chapter have already been invited to pray next year at the City of Roswell, GA gathering. And our local Hollywood/LA event at Bel Air Presbyterian Church was awesome. One of our prayer leaders was Pat Boone, who served on the committee to get the National Day of Prayer recognized as a national holiday, in the 1980s. There were reports from all over the country that our nation was praying and celebrating!

• In March, Billy Ray Cyrus withdrew his divorce papers in an attempt to reconcile with is wife, Tish. Let’s praise God that they are now committed to making it work and ask Him to give them strength, wisdom and a renewed love for one another. We praise God for protecting marriages and we ask that Billy Ray, Tish and Miley Cyrus will grow in their love and support for one another and in their love for the Lord.

• The people involved in the Bethany Hamilton story are praising God for the great response to the message of their film Soul Surfer. They’ve offered people a chance to learn more about God on the website: soulsurfer.com and there have been almost 100,000 visitors since April 1st. Over 10,000 people have indicated decisions for Christ. Praise God that Bethany’s story can lead others to know God.

• HPN is seeing an answer to our prayers as more and more people are feeling a desire to pray, to connect with prayer groups and to spend more time with God and talking to Him. We are excited to learn about a new movement of prayer in our country where we have been asked to stop whatever we’re doing and spend one minute every evening at 9:00 PM Eastern Time, (8:00 PM Central) (7:00 PM Mountain) (6:00 PM Pacific) and pray for our country. As HPN members, let’s especially pray for the arts/entertainment/media professionals. Our prayers are the most powerful asset we have. If you want to join the growing number of “one minute pray-ers” every evening, just set your clocks and pray for a minute!

REQUESTS:

• Pray for the upcoming summer movies, the people involved in them and for the audiences going to see them. May we all seek God’s wisdom in the creation of, participation in and viewing of entertainment. For the list of summer films (which start coming out this Memorial Day Week-end) click HERE.

• As kids are spending their summer at the movies, let’s encourage them to pray for the stars they’re paying to see. Let’s also challenge children and youth pastors and parents to uphold these prayers as a priority. Print out HPN’s monthly KIDS and TEENS prayer calendars and even pray for these people as a family. Click HERE.
Johnny_Depp.jpg

• As Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides opens on May 20th, let’s pray for Johnny Depp and his heart. He is one of the most popular actors across the globe and yet we want to see him focus on his spiritual journey and his relationship with God. May he fall madly in love with his Creator and author of his faith. For more info on Johnny click HERE to our HPN Target Redemption page giving you more insight into the man.

• Pray for the new leadership at MTV Networks, since Judy McGrath is stepping down as the chairman and CEO and no successor has been named yet. MTV is run by it’s parent company, Viacom Inc. Let’s ask the Lord to guide the decision-makers so that they will select a person chosen by the Lord; a person of integrity, creativity and honesty and maybe even faith! Viacom, which owns MTV Networks, is a powerful global media company, which touches the whole world.

• Ryan Seacrest has been listed as the fifth most influential man on Twitter by the New York Times. He is both an on-screen phenomena and a successful behind the scenes producer of Reality shows, such as The Kardashians. Please pray that God will send Ryan some solid Christian friends, and that He will lead Ryan into a place of trusting Him for all of his decisions. http://ryanseacrest.com/2011/03/28/ryan-seacrest-named-5th-most-influential-person-on-twitter-by-n-y-times/

• Pray for God to use the people working in the world of media and technology to use it for the good of man and for God’s glory. It’s a medium to ask questions, to teach and to inform, not to give answers. There are an unlimited number of ways that films, TV shows, music, the inter-net and even video games can help people, inspire them and give them hope. The product doesn’t have to be labeled “Christian,” just like a sunset doesn’t have a Bible verse at the bottom of it. As C.S. Lewis said, ”We don’t need more Christian writers, we need more writers who are Christian.”

• Let’s pray for the inter-net to be available to anyone seeking truth. One creative use of technology that HPN was introduced to is Bible Glo. This is a site that allows visitors who want to become more familiar with the Bible in a practical way to explore. They are creatively able to go through the Bible electronically by topic, geography, or any way they may desire. Check out our friend's new website to look at the Bible in a new way: http://globible.com/aninteractivebible/

FROM HPN MEMBERS:

• “I have been praying for The Waltons actress Mary McDonough since I started reading her book. She's been beaten up, kind of the same way I was, where GOD is concerned, as well as struggling with her self-image. I see someone like I was, who is searching for answers but only being misled. As she searches for love and guidance in the metaphysical instead of Jesus, I feel her pain and know GOD wants to use her in such an amazing way! He wants to hold her in His arms and love on her to make up for the mistreatment of the past.” Jody      Let’s pray for Mary McDonough.
movies-online-membership.jpg
• As we get into the Summer blockbuster season, let’s pray for the film viewers,  specifically that they will not support mass boycotts, which just make more people want to go to the controversial movies. Instead pray that they would use wisdom to personally choose what they will and will not watch.  This will impact the box office in a real way and not cause unnecessary hype over controversial films that could otherwise just disappear unnoticed. For more insight into the issue read Chuck Hayes article.

April 2011 Newsletter

Dear HPN members!

HAPPY EASTER! April is the month in 2011 for celebrating the glorious Resurrection of our Lord! Let’s invite our friends and family, no matter what they believe, to join us as we gather this Easter. It’s the perfect day to reach out to all those people around us who may have no plans next Sunday. Have a joyful time together! Let’s also pray for the people in entertainment community who have no idea what this day means. May God bring Christians to them to explain why it’s such an incredible time of year!

SUMMARY:
• HPN praises God for His faithfulness and for supplying our daily bread!
• Continue to pray for Charlie Sheen
• Continue to pray for Justin Bieber
• Pray for the 64th annual Cannes Film Festival coming up this May
• We thank God for the many Christians He has placed here as salt and light
• The television Execs are headed toward the annual UPFRONTS this month

• Sign up with RALPHS Grocery Store so that they will donate 2% to HPN
• Join the Christian community on Thurs., May 5th for the National Day of Prayer
• Check us out on Facebook and become our Friend!

PRAISE:
• We praise God for His faithfulness. It has been the driest financial time for HPN in 10 years. And yet, we know that God is faithful and will continue to be so. We just received a miraculous donation from a dear friend. God chose to supply this for us, in the perfect time, and the perfect amount for that moment. We should never question His provision, His timing or His intimate care for us! Let’s keep praying for more miracles where only God can get the glory!

UPDATES:
• Continue to pray for Charlie Sheen, as he travels the country doing press interviews, and live shows about his life. He is a broken man who needs the love and protection of the Lord, not a platform to discuss his brokenness. Let’s ask God to work a miracle in his life, to surround him with solid believers who can help him find truth, love and for protection from those who take advantage of his vulnerability. Please pray as you read this article.

• Continue to pray for Justin Bieber, whose mom, Pattie, is so thankful for our prayers. He has been getting some trouble from the press lately and they are feeling the pressure of being in the limelight as they travel through the Holy Land. (http://ca.news.yahoo.com/justin-bieber-says-besieged-paparazzi-israel-20110412-100439-634.html) Justin is only 17 and needs our prayers to stay on course and in the palm of the Lord’s loving and wise hand. To hear Pattie’s heart for prayer, click HERE: At the bottom of that page find our Twitter Link and tweet a prayer for Justin!

REQUESTS:
• Pray for the 64th annual Cannes Film Festival coming up this May 11 – 22nd in Cannes France. It is one of the world’s largest International Film Festivals and is attended by some of America’s most known film professionals. There are often Christians there who have a heart to reach out to those film stars who are often unapproachable here in Hollywood. Let’s pray for the hearts of the people attending, for the Lord to touch those who win and lose awards, and for the atmosphere to be full of the love of Jesus. For more information on the event click HERE.

• We thank God for the many Christians He has placed as salt and light throughout our industry. There are more committed believers in Hollywood than anyone outside our community realizes. So be encouraged and thank God with us for all He is doing here. We praise God this month for our friend Glen Keane, a Disney animator who has impacted every one of us through his work in creating Ariel, Tarzan, Pocahontas, Aladdin, The Beast and Rapunzel, to name only a few. He is a loving, generous Christian man who is a powerful example of Jesus in the workplace. Read this recent article on Glen in Christianity Today.

• The television Execs are headed toward the annual UPFRONTS this month: All the major networks are preparing for their meetings in NYC May 15 – 19th, where most of the major program sponsorship decisions for the new Fall TV season will be made. The UPFRONTS are when networks announce their new primetime schedules in a live show, including clips, sometimes extravagant musical numbers, comedic scenes and appearances by TV stars. The purpose for this event is to allow marketers, or sponsors, to buy commercial airtime “up front,” or several months before the TV season begins. Pray for the decisions made and for the decision-makers to have wisdom during this time. To read more about UPFRONTS click HERE.

• HPN wants our pray-ers to understand how destructive “celebrity” can be for most people. It is a curse more than a blessing. We don’t want to judge celebrities for their choices, but instead we want to pray that the Lord will protect them as they try to live a life of no privacy, full of gossip, pressure from fans, and excess that is hard to handle. We ask that you pray this month for the women who have won “Best Actress” Academy Awards, for they often find that their personal lives fall apart soon after winning their Oscar. For an interesting perspective click HERE.

• Pray for the new Christians who come into town to pursue a career in the entertainment industry and soon question whether they are meant to be here, if they have the talent needed to break in, or if it is even God’s desire for them to be here at all. What does a Christian do when they think they’ve been “called” to Hollywood, but nothing is working out? That’s a tough question that hundreds of people are asking every day as they try to pay their rent. Would you pray for the Christians to have wisdom to know what God’s BEST plan is for them? Click HERE to get a writer’s perspective.

• Please pray for Christians who are working successfully in the industry, and also standing strong in their faith. They have their own struggles that give them unique challenges. Let’s pray that they can balance their work with their personal lives and ministry, and be eternally effective in all areas. One person, our friend Mako Fujimura, is an artist in New York City and he is having not only an impact in the culture, but also in the lives of the people around him as he lives his life as a father, husband, artist, minister and friend. Click HEREto learn more about Mako as you pray for him and for other professionals like him.

Dear HPN Pray-ers,

St.jpg
Happy almost St. Patrick's Day!  As we begin to share what is happening here in Hollywood let's take a moment and pray for Japan, that the Lord would pour out His grace over that nation and send His comfort and aid.

In this beautiful month, our community has made it through a huge Awards month and now we’re in the middle of TV Pilot Season.  Thank you for your faithful prayers through these challenging and rewarding times. As you continue to pray with us for the entertainment industry we hope to give you more insight into how Hollywood works. We believe that you can pray with more wisdom if you have a greater understanding of the culture, people, traditions, things worshiped and language that combine to form the unique culture of the place we call home, Hollywood. One great resource for understanding this, the world’s most influential mission field is the TMZ or the Pink_Flowers_copy.jpgThirty Mile Zone

SUMMARY:

• Continue to ask God to guide Justin Bieber as he makes life decisions
• Would you pray with us for God’s continued financial provision for HPN?!
•  Praise God that a lovely Christian woman is highlighted on 'Secret Millionaire'
Praise God for U2’s lead singer BONO and his deep faith in the Lord
• We must pray for Charlie Sheen, who is on the road to self-destruction
• Pray for Anthony Hopkins and his faith journey
• Pray for the dangerous influence of Scientology on our industry
• Our industry is full of broken, hurting people who need prayer
• Please pray for an HPN friend Barry, who asked for prayer as he produces
• Pray for God’s presence at NAB, the world’s largest technology convention
• Pray for comedian Ricky Gervais, who hosted the Golden Globes in January
• Our prayer for you, the viewers, is that you will have compassion for artists
• Check out our industry’s upcoming events and pray

WHAT TO KEEP PRAYING FOR:

• Continue to pray for Justin Bieber. As a 17 year old he is faced with unnatural life situations, public judgment and private difficult decisions that are challenging even for mature adults. Please remember the challenges that come with being a celebrity and for a teen-ager making wise decisions, acting always as a mature adult and being careful of every word he says, it is humanly impossible. He and his mom, Pattie, need our prayers for continued strength, protection, wisdom and peace. Click here for an updated clip of Pattie’s about how we can be praying for Justin and read about the prayer campaign that HPN is also supporting for Pattie and Justin: http://catholicexchange.com/jb/

• Would you pray with us for God’s continued financial provision for HPN?!  We are at our highest growth in members, prayer opportunities and open doors to share our vision, but we are at our lowest point financially. We know that God is faithful and we don’t question His plans or provision, but in our hour of need, we ask you to hold up our arms in prayer so that we will be strengthened by you and He will hear the prayers of the saints all over the world for our mission and our ministry!  If you would like to financial partner with HPN click HERE.  We look forward to reporting great miracles!

WHAT TO PRAISE GOD FOR IN HOLLYWOOD:

Dani_copy.jpg•  Praise God that a lovely Christian woman is highlighted on 'Secret Millionaire'.  Let’s be encouraged by a show that is lifting up a woman who is boldly living out her commitment to the Lord. Though ABC has cut the references to her personal faith in Christ, Dani Johnson’s story is told about her generosity to the needy and her servant’s heart. Check out her story and if you want to tell ABC how much you appreciate her segment write to them at: ABC, Inc. 500 S. Buena Vista Street
Burbank, CA 91521-4551 And read about Dani at: http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/movies/interviews/2011/secretmillionpublic.html
Praise God for U2’s lead singer BONO and his deep faith in the Lord. He is a role model for young music lovers and we need to recognize God working through him. Read this interview with BONO, who expresses his faith so beautifully. It should be an inspiration to us all: to inspire the curious, empower the believers and challenge the skeptics.  When you’re done reading, pass it on to your friends and family.

WHAT TO PRAY FOR IN HOLLYWOOD:

• We must pray for Charlie Sheen, who was the world’s #1 TV star last month and this month he is unemployed, desperate and out of control. He has serious emotional and addictive issues and he needs healing.  Our friend Terri wrote a comment on facebook that we found, reminding us that as Christians that must respond differently than the rest of the world, when it comes to judging, gossiping about or ignoring people who are hurting, broken and so lost. Instead, let's pray for Charlie, who needs medical help, spiritual help and God's unconditional love, now more than ever. Let's have our prayers be for Charlie's heart to be healed, so that he has hope for a better future. That only comes through the love and transforming power of Jesus. To read Terri's note and even respond, Click HERE.

• Pray for Anthony Hopkins and his faith journey as he talks openly about his latest film THE RITE, a film about a man who lost his faith. In a wonderful interview on Charlie Rose, Anthony talked about his own belief in God. Let’s pray for his hunger for truth, peace and contentment. To hear the interview click HERE

• Pray for the dangerous influence of Scientology on our industry, on the city of Hollywood and on the whole world. A successful and respected screenwriter, Paul Haggis, who was a devoted member of Scientology, has come out publically with the falsehoods, lies and schemes of the cult. Let’s pray that the revelation of the lies will spread. Let’s also pray for protection for vulnerable people and an end to the growth of this deception in spite of its effective media and celebrity spokespeople. To learn about Paul’s experience click HERE.

• Our industry is full of broken, hurting people. Most industry professionals are spiritually starving and those who are seeking truth often land on a false belief or reject the faith that they learned as a child. We can bring up many stories of unknown, struggling artists who get in horrible situations because of the loss of or absence of faith. But often the people in the limelight merely represent thousands of others who are following the same path. So, since we can’t name them all, let’s pray for Miley Cyrus and all the others like her, who have wandered from the faith of their childhood. As you pray, click on this insightful interview with her dad, Billy Ray.

• Please pray for an HPN friend Barry, who has realized that as he produces his independent film, he can’t get anywhere without prayer. He represents so many Christian filmmakers who are producing commercial films and seeking God in the process. We should pray for protection for Barry and for Barry to fall more in love with Jesus along the way. You can even email him a prayer at: Barry@landisentertainment.com or on his website at: http://www.linksofutopia.com/cms/

• Pray for the powerful presence of God to be found at the world’s largest technology convention this April.  At the 86th Annual NAB Show, April 9 – 14 in Las Vegas, 90,000+ media and entertainment professionals from over 150 countries and 1,200+ members of the press gather to purchase content, technology and share the latest information on what’s new in our industry. It’s also a spiritually dark place for many who are surrounded by temptations throughout the week. We want the attendees to have a miraculous encounter with God at this gathering where one would least expect to find Him. As you pray, click HERE to understand more about the event.Ricky_Gervais_copy.jpg
• Pray for comedian Ricky Gervais, who hosted the Golden Globes in January and was so mean spirited that he caused quite a stir.   Many expected that he would be ostracized for his comments and yet, within a month of the controversy, he was invited back to host the 2012 Golden Globes. It appears that people love jokes told at the expense of others. In fact, some people felt the people Ricky targeted deserved it. He ended the evening with “And I thank God... That I'm an atheist." Let’s ask the Lord to surprise Ricky with an experience of Jesus’ unconditional love, and that this formula will no longer be true in Hollywood: funny + good ratings/ tons of press = forgiveness. For more info: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1657016/ricky-gervais-golden-globes-invited-him-back-2012.jhtml

A WORD FROM HPN:

• Our prayer for you, the viewers, is that you will understand that art always reflects or projects culture in society. God’s first act was creation and when He was finished He said, “It is good.” We pray that you will understand the crucial role of the creative artist in society and know that God highly values the work of the artist. They are needed to keep His heart and soul in our culture. If you, the audience, can value the work of the artist then you will be more supportive of the need to pray for and encourage the people in Hollywood and the global creative community. We don’t have to love their choices or their lifestyles – those we should be praying about. But we must acknowledge their importance in our world and lift them up to the Lord.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

• HPN is sponsoring a Spring Bible study for women on Beth Moore's "Living Beyond Yourself" - an 11 week adventure into exploring the Fruit of the Spirit – starting Thurs., March 31 at 7pm at the HPN offices. For more info email Kathy Young at: coach4crossroads@yahoo.com or check out the website at: www.hope4hollywood.org/HPN

• Join our industry professionals and local pastors at Bel Air Presbyterian Church on May 5th at 7:30pm for the National Day of Prayer gathering. We’re spending 90 minutes in prayer and worship for our country, state, city and our industry, followed by 30 minutes of personal prayer. We want all of LA to gather on the hill with us to spend the evening with God in corporate prayer! For more info, click HERE.

• For other Christian events in Hollywood, click here: http://www.hollywoodconnect.com/events/upcoming

Thanks so much for praying with us. We believe that praying for Hollywood will bring cultural revival.

Happy Valentines Day!   Happy Grammy’s and Happy Oscars! February is a big month in Hollywood because it’s Awards season for the film industry and it’s Pilot season for the TV industry. We would especially love your prayers for the people who are creating projects, who are in front of the camera, behind the camera, in distribution, production, development and marketing. Everyone is impacted by the decisions made this month and so asking God to be a part of them is crucial to our culture and our community.

PRAISES:

Prayer_Week.jpg• HPN had one of its most exciting weeks last month and we thank you for praying for us as we hosted the National Prayer Committee in Hollywood. Seventy-five of the most wonderful and passionate prayer leaders spent a week in our mission field, going on prayer walks, meeting professionals, ministry leaders and local pastors. They experienced the incredible things God is doing in Hollywood and left with a new understanding of how they can be praying for the entertainment professionals and our industry. We thank every one of them for coming and giving us the chance to show them Jesus’ love here in Hollywood. We praise God that they have a new heart for Christian artists, non-believing cultural influencers and decision-makers. Their prayer partnership with us is eternally significant!

UPDATES:

Many Christians attended last month's Sundance Film Festival, one of the most important annual American Independent Film Festivals. Our friend Craig Detweiler, a professor at Pepperdine, brought his annual large group of Christian film students and Fuller Seminary students to Sundance, Utah, where they attended film screenings and then invited some of the filmmakers to come and talk at their Windrider Forum. Here is Craig's response to the experience: "In the seven years we’ve been bringing students to the Sundance Film Festival, 2011 stands out as the most spiritual and spirited slate of films so far. Filmmakers’ interests in ultimate questions continues to grow. WHAT’S GOING ON IN HOLLYWOOD THIS SEASON:

• It’s Pilot Season in the television industry. From January through April, the TV producers who have been given the green light from a network to produce one episode of their new TV series, start casting and shooting the show. They hope the network that gave them money for this one episode will like it enough to give them an order of 13 or even 22 more episodes to be produced for the upcoming new Fall TV Season. This is the season where producers, directors, composers, editors, actors and crew, all try to get connected with a pilot so that if it gets picked up for series then they will have a show to work on for the rest of the year. Pilots are often a fleeting hope because many more are produced than ever get on the air, and thousands of people are trying to secure very few jobs. Let’s pray for these TV pros as they try to get hired on to a pilot that will be a winner. It’s a frenzied time with pressure and dashed hopes and dreams for so many. May the Lord touch the hearts of those struggling for a “break” or even just a job, so that they experience His hope, peace and joy, regardless of their circumstances. Click HERE to find out more about Pilot Season:

• This past Sunday was The 53rd Annual Grammy’s Awards Ceremony (http://www.grammy.com/) Please pray for both the winners and the losers, for both of them need the Lord to help them with their emotions, their career, their relationships and their self-worth after the awards were announced. Many of the losers went home feeling that they have no value. The winners suddenly realized they are superstars and it starts to influence their vision of themselves. Only God can give us our true identity and our true value and we can only be completely fulfilled in Him. Pray for these artists to trust in God for their lives and for the talents that He’s given them.

images.jpg• Let’s pray especially for Justin Bieber, who is the hottest young artist in the world right now. HPN has been asked by Justin’s team to start a global prayer effort for Justin and his single mom Pattie Mallette. Justin is 16 years old and has become a global phenomena, not yet understanding that celebrity can be more of a curse than a blessing. His mom asked that we pray for both of them, to keep their eyes on Jesus, to make wise decisions and not be swept into the dangerous mindset that fame and celebrity suck people into. We have set up a facebook page where you can post your prayers for them.  Let's be a part of praying Justin into a continued safe place with the Lord, no matter how much the industry pulls on him! Would you join us in covering this young man, who is currently the most popular star in the world and his mom, who
is trying to handle his life, career, schooling and spiritual training? Click HERE and post your prayer - then ask your friends to do the same.

Oscar.jpeg• Sunday, February 27th marks the 83rd Academy Awards, which is held at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, just next store to Mann’s Chinese Theatre and across the Street from Disney’s El Capitan Theatre, in the Hollywood and Highland complex. It’s the biggest night of the year for the Film industry and millions of dollars are spent on promotion of the films, the stars, and the clothes they wear. And though it’s the most glamorous night of the year, it’s also the most empty night for most of the people who attend. They all believe that their career depends on who wins. Those who lose leave crushed, while many who finally win the award of a lifetime, go home and wonder, “Is this all there is?” The actors, directors, writers, and producers often define their identity on whether they get this award. Our job is to pray that they can find their identity in Jesus, who is the author and finisher of their lives and their faith. Please join us in praying for all of the people involved in this year’s films and ask the Lord to reveal Himself to them, to allow them to personally experience His love, joy, peace and hope! Only then will they ever find total fulfillment. We can be a part of that transformation. How you can make a difference!
  • HPN is joining with Christina Lee Storm and having a Kodak Theatre Prayer Walk on Thurs., Feb. 24th at 7:30 pm around the whole Oscar’s venue, inviting the Lord to reveal Himself to all who show up that Sunday, the 27th. We pray for all the people involved and their hearts, asking the Lord to reach out to them. We also pray for the Christians who are there to be salt and light, even the security, limo drivers and the other support staff. We would love to have you join us, either remotely, or at the venue. If you live in town and want to pray walk with us, just email Caren@hpnemail.org for specifics.
  • Mastermedia Intl. is launching a challenge to Christians all over the world to pray for the entertainment industry on Oscar Sunday – as the National Day of Prayer for the Media. HPN is supporting them in encouraging Christians to take that day and pray for the media/entertainment industry, the professionals involved in the world’s most influential mission field and for those who are seeking Truth in their lives.  Already pastors and priests are having commissioning services and masses for artists who are in their church on that Sunday morning, as they take time to pray for the power and influence of the media. They challenge their members to be wise and discerning audience members, etc. MMI would like to know how you, your Sunday school class, or church participated in prayer on “Oscar Sunday.” Send an email to oscarsunday@mastermediaintl.org and let them know how you joined in the chorus of prayer on February 27th!

•  HPN wants to encourage you to pray for creative people who you may know personally, or have a heart for. Let's ask the Lord to protect them, guide them, give them wisdom and to have them fall in love with Him. If you want to know how to pray more specifically for people whom other HPN members have told us they’re praying for, click HERE or let us know who you’re praying for and we’ll add them to our Incognito Team prayer list. Email Caren@hpnemail.org.

• Please pray for so many of our industry members who are struggling with cancer. From Steve Jobs to Aretha Franklin to so many unknown wonderful creative artists who are making the world a better place through their talents. May the Lord turn their struggle with cancer into good by leading them into a beautiful relationship with Him in their healing process.
