Scripture: Matt 6:9a
"So when you pray, you should pray like this:" NCV

Throughout the Bible there are many notable prayers. The list is quite impressive.

The Tax Collectors prayer for mercy and repentance
Habakkuk's prayer for rejoicing in the Lord
Ezra praying for sin of the people
Hezekiah's prayer for more years
Daniel's Prayer for the captives
Jabez's prayer for blessings
Paul's prayer for wisdom

There are many more prayers from notable leaders in the Bible like David, Abraham, Stephen and Elijah. While these are exceptional prayers --- for me the most powerful is the one Jesus taught me (us) to speak in Matthew 6:9-13.

Following is a look at the prayer Jesus taught me (us) to pray and what it tells me with additional supporting scripture:

"Our Father" --- Speaks of respect: 1 Peter 1:17
"You pray to God and call him Father, and he judges each person's work equally. So while you are here on earth, you should live with respect for God" NKJV

"Who art in Heaven" --- Speaks of Position: Ephesians 2:6
"And he raised us up with Christ and gave us a seat with him in the heavens. He did this for those in Christ Jesus" NCV

"Hallowed be Thy Name" --- Speaks of Holiness: 1 Peter 1:15
"But be holy in all you do, just as God, the One who called you, is holy" NCV

"Thy Kingdom come" --- Speaks of the Future: Matthew 24:14
"The Good News about God's kingdom will be preached in all the world, to every nation. Then the end will come" NCV

"Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven" --- Speaks of Submission: Matthew 16:19 --- "And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

"Give us this day our daily bread" ---  Speaks of Need: Numbers 11:9
"When the dew fell on the camp each night, so did the manna" NCV

"And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors" Speaks of Forgiveness: Matthew 6:14 --- Yes, if you forgive others for their sins, your Father in heaven will also forgive you for your sins" NCV

"And lead us not into temptation --- Speaks of Relationship: James 1:12
"When people are tempted and still continue strong, they should be happy. After they have proved their faith, God will reward them with life forever. God promised this to all those who love him" NCV

"But deliver us from the evil one" --- Speaks of Protection: 2 Timothy 4:18
"And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!" NCV

"For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen" --- Speaks of Understanding: Revelation 12:10
"Then I heard a loud voice in heaven saying: "The salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have now come" NCV

There you have it: Just 66 words! By my standards the most powerful prayer.

Matthew 6:9-13 NKJ
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Prayer: Father thank you for sending Jesus to teach me (us) how to pray --- now help me to faithfully do it. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
