THE TWO KINDS OF SONS

Most Christians have never been taught this, but the New Testament uses two completely different Greek words for “son”—and understanding the difference will transform how you see your spiritual journey.
  • TEKNON = a child born into the family
  • HUIOS = a mature son formed by the Father
When John writes, “to all who received Him, He gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12), he uses teknon. You’re born into God’s family. You’re loved, accepted, secure. Your position is not in question.

But when Paul writes, “those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God” (Romans 8:14), he uses huios—a mature son who has been trained, disciplined, and shaped to reflect the Father’s character and carry His authority.

Here’s the problem: most believers stop at teknon. They’re saved, but they never grow up. They consume church instead of advancing Kingdom. They want blessing without responsibility. They pray like children instead of ruling like sons.

But Romans 8:19 says creation is waiting for the revealing of the huios—the mature sons of God. Not just born-again Christians. Mature sons and daughters who look like Jesus, carry authority, and transform nations.

You were born a teknon. But the Father is calling you to mature into a huios.

Salvation is instant. Sonship is a process.

The question is: are you willing to grow up?
